And this year her fastpitch softball team, the Norwich Sting, is going National. They'll be shooting to make the National Fastpitch Softball World Series, playing against the best teams from around the country. MadCat is thrilled. But going National isn't quite what MadCat expected. Almost half the girls from the Sting -- girls who have played together for years -- have been cut to make room for hotshots from nearby towns. Their coach tells them the most important thing is to play to win. MadCat's best friend, Jess, isn't fun all she can think about is beating the competition, both inside and outside the team. Things are getting tenser and tenser. The Sting's winning all their games; they're sure to make it to the big time. They know nothing can stop them, not when their motto is Eating Dirt Is Better Than Losing. But is winning really more important than anything? Or will all their victories just add up to nothing?

This story is about girl who loves to play softball, and this year her fastpitch softball team, the Norwich Sting, is going National.

Things are getting tenser and tenser.

The Sting's winning all their games; they're sure to make it to the big time. They know nothing can stop them, not when their motto is Eating Dirt Is Better Than Losing. I recomend this book to any baseball or softball fan who is looking for a great book to read.

Madelyn Catherine, known to her teammates as Mad Cat, lives for softball. When her best friend's mother decides to change the team to make it more competitive, Mad Cat is sad to lose a few of her friends and her former coach, but winning is more important than a few hurt feelings, right? But the more Mrs. Page and another parent pushes, the more the team starts to lose what it was that made softball fun. By the end of the book Mad Cat has to decide if winning is really all that matters.

This book makes softball accessible even for the non-fan. It's a great message for middle graders about what's really important in sports.

Madelyn Catherine Campione, AKA MadCat, is the best twelve-year-old catcher in New Hampshire and this year the Norwich Sting, her fastpitch softball team, is trying to make the National Fastpitch Softball World Series. Half the girls from last year's team were cut and the pressure to win is overwhelming. Even MadCat's best friend Jess is caught up in the need to crush all her competition, on and off the team. The team's motto is "Eating Dirt is Better Than Losing," but MadCat isn't so sure winning is more important than everything else.

I thought this book "Mad Cat" was pretty good. I could relate to the compotition that these kids have. When I play hockey i have the same presure as these kids. They are playing to have fun but what they want most is to win, and thats what i want when i play hockey. The only thing that i thought was bad about this book was that I though that i got a little boaring at times, but it would always come back strong and get my attention. I recomend this book to people that are my age but mosly girls because it is comeing from a girls perspective so it is different for a guy to read it.

This Book is a great book.It Starts with a girl named Madelyn Catherine Who likes playing but she doesn't do too good in games. She practices to get better which helped her by a lot. I think it even helped her team "Sting" get to the NFS World Series. She goes from not believing in herself kinda to confident. They have to go to Louisiana And Kentucky and since sit a World Series there's more then 600 teams. It's a good book and I would recommend to anyone who likes these types of stories.

Middle school girls who enjoy sports will like this book. As a "sports mom", I found it an interesting pleasure read.
