This book is about a girl named Pinky and her brother Tyler. Tyler was afraid to to go school on the first day of school Pinky made up a funny story about how she had to go to school on picture day with bad hair and everyone joined her for a bad hair day. Tyler ended up going to school when Pinky offered to sit by him on the bus.

I rated this 5/5 because it a fun, funny book. It shows a sister trying to help her brother feel comfortable about going to school

I bought a handful of these Pinky Dinky Doo books for my classroom to put on our bookshelves... but this is the first time I've read any of them. It was really cute! The illustrations are a fun mix of drawings and real life things. But what I loved most (are you surprised?) is the great vocabulary! This book introduced the word "apprehensive" and then did a good job of using it in different situations after defining it so the reader can really start to understand the word. Now I am left wondering if the other books do that as well. Either way, I loved that aspect! Pinky also used the word "quadrilateral" which her gerbal translated for the reader :-p

Good work Jim Jinkins! I am very happy to read this to my students!

To help her little brother Tyler get over his first-day-of-school worries, Pinky makes up a silly story about a classroom full of kids all having a bad hair day on--what else?--school picture day. Students ready for chapter books will love Pinky and her wild story, especially the lively collage illustrations combining cartoons with photographs. Adults will appreciate the built-in vocabulary builders--words like “apprehensive” and “quadrilateral” are defined by the characters and used often for reinforcement. Pinky closes the book by challenging readers to make up a story of their own, an ending teachers can captizalize on to get their own students writing stories using vocabulary words.

Cute book that would be good for children in first grade. Pinky Dinky Doo: Back to School Is Cool is the type of book that kids can relate to. Within the story, Pinky's little brother is apprehensive about going to school on his first day. The book explains what apprehensive means in a simple way so that kids can learn a big word and its meaning easily. The book also goes into how everyone was having a bad hair day on picture day and they all just embraced it. This book would be good for teaching kids how to embrace who they are and to know that they're not alone.
