This is the third edition of a book written to serve both as a useful textbook for undergraduate courses in medicine and pharmacology, and also as a handy reference title for industry professionals. Each of the 27 chapters is sub-divided into 3 sections such an introduction to the subject, a chemical or pharmacological classification - each category of compound importantly contains International Non-proprietory Names (INN), British Approved Names (BAN) and United States Approved Names (USAN) wherever applicable, chemical names and proprietory names, and the synthesis of various important members treated individually, a brief description of the synthesis, therapeutic applications of each compound, the necessary dosage applied in various diseases, and routes of administration. The book also deals well with the comprehensive mechanism of actions of the structure - activity - relationships (SARs); thus aiding the students' understanding. Clearly written, well referenced and fully up to date with recommended readings and self assessment questions, Prof. Kar has provided an accessible textbook for students of medicinal chemistry.
