Rude Awakening

Rate this book
His training didn’t cover how to win back a woman’s trust…
Jaimee Turner spent most of her life trying to be an unassuming pillar of virtue and submissive wife to a man who demanded nothing of her—especially physically. A year after his unexpected death, she’s finally finding her own footing, only to find herself thrown completely off balance by Lucas, a man who awakens desires she never knew she had.
FBI agent Lucas Grayson is relentless in his quest to bring down those who prey on the innocent. The Turner case is unlike anything he’s dealt with before, and so is the widow Turner. One thing’s for Brent Turner was blind to think he could outsmart the Collective. And blind to the fact Jaimee was a gift he threw away.
The Collective has dirty fingers in all sorts of bad pies, and the FBI suspects Brent’s “accident” was anything but. Jaimee knows more than she thinks she does. Lucas would sell his soul to extract that information and keep her safe. But he can’t save her from the devastating betrayal she’ll have to face.
Some mild violence, a very sarcastic best friend, sneaky massages, inappropriate use of caramel and some occasional back door lovin’.

Excellent!! This book has everything you could want in an erotic romantic suspense.

Once I started I could not stop. I was sucked in by the scrumptious Lucas Grayson, the perfect alpha male and my HERO! A man’s man and even better…a woman’s man. Jaimee was a genuine, extremely likeable character that brought Lucas to his knees with desire…more than once! He loved every inch of her full figured body, over and over.

“Somewhere along the way he’d become a sappy, love-crazed horn dog”.

That's right Lucas, you sure were, lucky us!! PHEW! Aside from the passion, this was a very well written enjoyable story. It was suspenseful with an unexpected twist. Some really great secondary characters, like Maxine, Jaimee’s snarky, in-your-face, tell-it-like-it-is, best friend. Loved her! Then there was the intriguing and elusive “Pope”. I would love to read a book about him and was sad to see this was a stand alone, although the story did wrap up nicely with a sweet and satisfying HEA. It had the potential to be a great series. I know I will go back and visit with Lucas and Jamiee again and again!

5 Scorching Hot Sexy Stars

WOW this book packed a powerful erotic punch!!! I loved H&h Lucas and Jamiee, and there were some great secondary characters, especially Jamiee's tell it like it is BFF Maxine.

Lucas is a sexy Alpha badass FBI Agent working undercover, and Jamiee is his assignment. Unbeknownst to Jamiee, her deceased husband was connected to some very bad guys and they think Jamiee has something they want.

Jamiee's a quiet unassuming full figured school teacher, she and Lucas first meet at the gym and Lucas is instantly wildly attracted to Jamiee and ALL her sexy curves. Trying to get her to trust him is a challenge as she is very self conscience and has body image insecurities.

Once he gets Jamiee to trust, open up to him, and get her to unleash her wild side....holy hell things between them become scorching hot and let me just say, I will forever think of this book when I see caramel!!!

 photo 14077307451931_zpsonmlw0bq.jpg

Eventually Jamiee learns of both her husband's and Lucas' betrayals and she assumes the worst, that she was nothing to him but a assignment. So sexy Lucas sets out to get Jamiee to trust him again, to get her to believe in him and his feelings for her.

Great read, with an equally satisfying epilogue. Thanks so much to Karla for recommending this read during my "book funk". It's great to have friends who know you so well!!!!

This book grabbed me right from the start and kept me very interested all the way through. It had a really good suspense story along with a very HOT and intense relationship with the H&h. I liked the fact that the heroine was a full figure woman and that the hero who was a hulking hunk was attracted to her and loved all her curves. The sex/love scenes were scorching that is always' a plus for me. The ending was really good with a very HEA ending. I really wish Veronica would have more book's to offer for me to read. Hopefully she will write more soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters, good suspenseful storyline, lots of tense angsty moments, strong but vulnerable heroine, smoking hot love scenes and one of the best bad boy heroes I have read. Lucas is going on my top ten list of book boyfriends!

Very sweet, cute, endearing story. It was nice to see the plump girl (like yours truly) get the hot guy....even if I don't believe it would ever really happen;)

This is a very light, easy read. Enjoyable!

Everything I need in a romantic suspense was there in Rude Awakening. I was hooked from the beginning and read to the end in a single day. The plot was fast-paced with good action and suspense, the characters were genuine, the hero was strong, and the romance was passionate. But the most unique, and appreciated, part was the heroine herself. I was completely drawn to Jaimee since she was a down-to-earth woman with a real body that any woman can relate to. (I wanted to hug Veronica Chadwick for giving us a heroine like Jaimee in an erotic love story.) She could be any of us – imperfect and a bit insecure – but likable.

When the book begins, Jaimee is grieving her late husband. With the help of her best friend, Maxine (great secondary character!), she is trying to move on with her life but knows that as a chubby English teacher trying to pick up the pieces of her life, she’s certainly no hot catch.
Enter Lucas who pushes his way into her life and shows her a passion she has never known. Timid and sexually-repressed, Jaimee is frightened by her strong feelings for Lucas but can’t resist indulging in the sensual acts Lucas initiates. She is certain that men that looked like Lucas couldn’t be interested in women like her and is confused by his advances. Not willing to give him up just yet, she decides to enjoy him while she can.

And enjoy him she did. Some scenes with Jaimee and Lucas burned my fingers while I held the book. The chemistry is hot between them. Assigned to get close to Jaimee in order to investigate her late husband’s business, Lucas knows getting involved is dangerous but can’t help himself. Even though he often used seduction to get the information he needed in his job, he’d never gotten involved with a woman he cared for. And he knew that once the investigation was over and Jaimee knew the truth about why he’d first initiated contact, he was going to lose her.
What makes this such a good book is the perfect balance between the sex and the story. Seeing Jaimee recognize that she deserves to be loved and pleased by a man is empowering for women who have ever questioned their own desirability. Watching Lucas fall in love with Jaimee and draw her out of her shell is endearing. Chadwick’s characters are well developed, making it easy to be drawn into their relationship. And when they finally declare their love for one another, it is a scene to remember and take inspiration from… that regardless how you look on the outside, what matters is the beauty you possess on the inside.

Can't say I enjoyed all the Christian stuff, it just always seems to come across as preachy to me, especially since it was completely irrelevant to the plot. But otherwise, I of course liked the formula. Chubby, insecure heroine meets dashing, muscular hero. She can't believe he is into her. Hot sex. The lies come out and there is a resurgence of insecurity and angst. It's cliched but I read every version of it I can. Would have liked this a lot more if it checked religion at the door. Basically, please leave Jesus out of my sex books.

Re-read in 2019: And like much of this genre, it's just beyond impossible. Flawlessly gorgeous, sexy men who give multiple orgasms ten times a day do not take one look at plain, plump women and incinerate with lust. These kind of books read like plus-size fantasies, and it's so obvious to me that I have a hard time suspending my disbelief. Fiction needs to have at least a grain of reality to it.

PSA:

Also, I always chuckle at the scenes where the plus size heroine is being swept into the arms of a mane and exclaims "oh no, you can't I'm too heavy!" And then swoons because of course he can carry her up a flight of stairs because she's petite. A dude trying to sweep me off my feet would have a hernia - I'm 5'10" and 240lbs. But these books always have tiny plus-size women. Where my giantesses at??

A very likeable mystery story with a bit too much description of two lovers satisfying exotic fantasies with each other and a heroine that had the “oh, woe is me, I’m fat and unattractive” syndrome which toward the end distracted from the character. Another problem was that some of the conflict in the book would go away if the characters would have talked with each other about what they were feeling as they did about their fantasies.

The hero, Lucas Grayson became completely smitten by the heroine Jaimee Turner. The problem was that Lucas, an FBI agent, has an agenda that initially has him forcing his way into Jaimee’s life. His problems begin when Jaimee becomes more than an assignment.

Jaimee Turner is a chubby English teacher working to get her life on track after the death of her husband. A man with whom she had no passion with and who ignored her. Working out and trying to eat healthy, she is at the gym when Lucas forces himself into her life and awakens desires she never knew she had.

The mystery story has some interesting twists and turns at the end and is satisfactorily resolved as is that of the love story.

I absolutely adored this book. Lucas was tough and sexy yet loving, gentle and protective. Jaimee was strong yet appropriately vulnerable and accepting of Lucas's ways. She wasn't the typical beauty we normally read about and it was that much more wonderful that Lucas fell in love with her so sincerely regardless of her imperfections. It was truly sad and painful throughout the story to hear how people treated the "big" girl or the "fat" girl. Yet Lucas saw past all of that. He loved her and desired her so much he couldn't stop from showing her how special he thought she was. I dreaded the moment she would learn the whole truth about her marriage to her "dead" husband. When she found out the truth of her husband and Lucas's true identity, it was heartbreaking. But Lucas hung in there like the true hero he is and proved to her how much he really cared for her and wanted her for his own. It was INCREDIBLY romantic. Loved it. READ IT!!!

I'm torn
I liked this book and I disliked it too
Let's start with Lucas. He was so enjoyable. He is your fantasies come true - strong enough to lift you no matter your size, sexy body, protective, caring, loving, attentive, and not shy to dirty talk either, mmm mmm
BUT and this is sad for me to say, Jaimee kinda annoyed me.
Was it her negativity? maybe. But mainly her attitude and lack of confidence
And I didn't understand the public torment about her weight. Do people really ridicule plus size girls? If so, shame on you.
I also thought the book was too long and not very suspenseful
I started skimming and could wait for the finish ... never a good sign

This was definitely a great story, from the beginning to end. What a great dessert adding a Native American/Apache as a leading character, delish. Jaimee's life was such a turmoil, how her husband manipulate her in many ways, that she couldn't comprehend, the love she have for Grayson. Love a man who is Dominant and knows what he wants. Lucas Grayson you are definitely yummy. Great Presentation of Characters. Maxine, girl you are one of my Shero. "Maliki" The Pope, he definitely needs a book.
I applaud the Author: Ms. Veronica Chadwick.

Explosively Awakened!

As soon as I began reading this novel, I felt completely drawn to Jaimee. Being in my early thirties, a plus size woman, and dealing with the many years of emotional baggage society has bestowed upon women who do not mirror the Kim Kardashians of the world. Always referring to us as "fat asses," who wouldn't deserve to be admired, pleased, and fulfilled by our own wickedly amorous lover, such as Lucas is to Jaimee.

I was deeply enthralled into this story from beginning to the very end. The action-pack/suspense is on point, the annoying/sarcastic friend, Maxine, was a much needed humor element, to break up the tension between Jaimee and Lucas, and the best feature was the HOT & EXTREMELY SCORCHING erotic scenes, leaving your loins quivering from your own eruption.

There was absolutely nothing inappropriate with this book, just two lovers fulfilling their hidden exotic fantasies with each other. And finally the genuine declaration of love that is revealed is one to be inspired by. That regardless what you look like on the outside, the beauty you possess on the inside is what really counts.

I was 110% satisfied, BRAVO Ms. Chadwick, you definitely DESERVE WELL BEYOND A 10 STAR RATING!!

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

I really liked this book. The story was really good - I also liked how the author introduced elements of the story in such a way as nothing was obvious as going to happen before it did. Make sense?

And, Lucas? Oh. My. Though described as beautiful in all the right ways for this reader it was his intensity, his dominance that made my insides flutter like a 13 year old girl on a roller coaster. This is a character that is strong enough to carry a series or certainly more than on book.

I liked Jamie very much. She reminded me of a friend of mine so much that I kept superimposing/visualizing my friend in scenes. Jamie's perspective was easy to understand and I liked how the author was so realistic in the prejudice overweight people face.

Actually started off as 3 stars for me I wasn't connecting with the characters. About maybe a third of the way into the book, it just completely turned around for me. Great story, awesome alpha hot hero, angst, and no doormat heroine (which drives me bonkers)! Perfect storm lol.

Great quote when she finally finds out he's an undercover cop and she thinks he just slept with her for the case:
“He knelt in front of her and wiped a tear she didn’t know had fallen from her cheek.
“We’ll find him. I won’t let him or anyone else hurt you.”
It was all a lie, she reminded herself. "Yeah?"
“That’s going to be difficult for you, Lucas. You hurt me more than anyone else could have.”

One word... AWESOME!!.... This story captured my attention from beginning to the very end. Loved the H & h they were just so witty and riveting plus you just couldn't help but love these two. Definitely loved the whole alpha male thing Lucas had going and that Jaimee wasn't a pushover/doormat. Also loved that the author didn't have any corny, cliched dialogue with any of the characters The only thing that did annoy me a bit was Jaimee's perception that she was too big to ever find love. Other than that this book was wonderful and a great read.

Still giggling that it was set in Nashville. So many things ran true, although I did have to ponder the bit about OHB traversing all three interstates twice. Guess I'd never really thought of it that way. Oh, Opry Mills... So glad it's open once again post flooding. Although you won't catch me there any time soon. And the church so reminded me of my Mom's church, it's not funny. *ponders that, too*

There where so many things about this story that hit really close to home for me that made it hard to read at times. But it was a great read. It had it all, suspense, a great love story, hot sex!! The characters where easy to like and especially easy to relate to. I loved his book especially the last 50%. The epilogue made me cry my eyes out, I think I was holding back throughout the book and I just couldn't any more ;). I highly recommend this book!

Plus sized woman meets gorgeous undercover agent dude who's trying to infiltrate her life. His agency is investigating her dear old "dead" husband. Only he falls in love with her. I liked that she was getting her strength back. Getting to the happy confident woman she was before she got married to the douchbag. I liked that the agent really pleased her in all the ways all women should be pleased.

I really like this story abut Lucus a G-man conducting an investigation into the death of Mrs. Turner's husband. Lucus enter's the life of this woman under false pretense. As the investigation unfolds Lucus must protect and also let go of this woman as the truth is revealed. Add love with a hot alpha man, suspense and a surprise twist at the end and I loved it!

Smoking hot! Add a feisty, strong woman together with a domineering FBI agent determined to save her life...and get in her pants, and you come up with Rude Awakening. I loved the story, the characters and the sex was scorching and very appropriate to the story line.

I look forward to reading more from Ms. Chadwick.

FBI agent Lucas' job was to get close to Jaimee. After watching and making contact with Jamiee, Lucas realizes this is not like any other job, because his feelings get involved with this one.

One thing that bugged me about this book was all the strangers and acquaintances too, who constantly made comments about Jaimee's weight. It got annoying and seemed a bit unrealistic.

This was a mixed bag. Hot sexy hero with long hair - liked, religious church going heroine with HUGE insecurities - did not like.

Church + sex = awkward read. I was all in it until it became churchy. Seriously? Don't mix erotica with religion. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Other than that, it was a nice easy read.

Loved

So I loved this story. The on,y thing that really got me was there was no break in the POV's. Not that it was hard but it took my brain a few seconds to realize we went to so one else POV. It happened throughout the whole story. It was just annoying. But other than that the book was awesome.

Such a good book! Good story with mystery, suspense, hot romance, and the heroine is a likable "normal" everyday woman instead of the typical barbie doll stereotype heroine. Will look for more by this author.
