Dawn Riley ist die Tochter des Gottes Morpheus und einer Menschenfrau, was ihr erstaunlicherweise die Macht verleiht in beiden Welten zu Leben und nach belieben von der einen in die andere Sphäre zu wechseln. Dass das nicht jedem der Nachtmahre gefällt ist offensichtlich, denn schon bald muss Dawn sich den Ablehnenden Blicken und Stimmen anderer Bewohner des Traumreiches stellen. Ist es da verwunderlich, dass auch einige voller Hass sind?
Wie bereits im ersten Band wird auch hier der Leser mit dem lockeren, leichten, recht umgangssprachlichem Schreibstil der Autorin unterhalten. Um ehrlich zu sein wird das sicherlich nicht von jedem Leser als positiv empfunden, doch wer gegen so etwas keine Einwände hat, der wird sich hervorragend amüsieren, wenn Dawn wieder einmal ihren Gedanken nachhängt. Ergo: Dieses Buch bietet eine Menge humorvolle Szenen und bringen den Leser oftmals zum schmunzeln. Das ist auch gar nicht verwunderlich, da die Protagonistin zwar als Halbblut etwas besonderes ist, aber dennoch mit all den Dingen konfrontiert wird, die Frau eben so kennt: Eifersucht auf die Model-Schöne Ex-Frau des Freundes, Unsicherheit wegen ein paar Pfunden zu viel und grundsätzliche Verliebtheit in einen wundervollen Mann - zu wundervoll?
Natürlich ist hier nicht alles Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen, denn die Oberste Wächterin der Nachtmahre macht Dawn ganz schön zu schaffen. Wie kann es nur sein, dass sie in der Traumwelt so abgelehnt wird? Es kennt sie doch schließlich kaum jemand wirklich. Doch we Angst und Neid sich auf einen Charakter auswirken muss unser Halbblut leider Hautnah miterleben und gerät dabei in heftige Gefahr, die nicht einmal ihr Vater - Morpheus - abwenden kann.
Selbstverständlich wird viel gerätselt: Wer ist gegen den Gott der Träume und seine Tochter? Wie stark ist Dawan wirklich? Was ist Noahs Geheimnis? Und wieso verdammt schaut Verek - ihr Nachtmahr-Krieger-Trainer - sie aus so intensiv glühenden Augen an? Kann sie eine alte Liebe neu zusammenführen? Und wird ihre Beziehung zu Noah all dem standhalten? Leider sind viele spannende Themen vorhanden, werden allerdings nicht vollends ausgeschöpft. Kampfszenen sind nicht besonders mitreißend und beizeiten nervt Dawn ein bisschen mit ihrer Unsicherheit wegen ihres Körpers und, weil sie an ihrer Beziehung zu Noah zweifelt. "Mädchen", habe ich gedacht. "Er liebt dich, verdammt. Check es endlich!" Dich so gelehrig ist die Gute leider nicht.
Dieser zweite Band ist leider auch der letzte dieser Reihe, da die Geschichte nie weiter geschrieben wurde und selbst wenn, wurde der PAN Verlag in dem das Buch erschien mittlerweile aufgelöst. Wirklich schade, denn trotz durchschnittlichem Lesevergnügen hätte ich schon alleine für den lockeren Humor und für die Gesamtidee weitergelesen.

Dark Side of Dawn is the sequel to Before I Wake, the first book in Kathryn Smith's Nightmare Chronicles. I suggest reading Before I Wake first.
I loved Dark Side of Dawn as much as Before I Wake. Kathryn Smith has a knack for making us believe these are real people, the characters come to life. She's building a world with this series that is very interesing and never ever boring just as the characters are enticing.

Das einzig positive an dem Buch "Die Wächterin der Träume" war, das es sich wenigstens schnell durch lesen ließ. Die Idee der Ich-Erzählerin, die sich auch mal direkt an den Leser wendet, fand ich im ersten Teil noch interessant, weil ich so was nicht so oft lese. Im zweiten Teil fand ich es aber anstrengend, weil sie ständig von "mein Leben ist gerade so toll" zu "oh Gott, alles furchtbar" hin und her pendelt und sich selbst dabei entweder ganz toll oder ganz schrecklich findet. Insgesamt kam mir der Fantasy-Teil in diesem Roman, in dem es um die Tochter des Gottes der Träume und die Traumwelt gehen soll, definitiv zu kurz. Den Teil hätte man ruhig ausbauen können. Dafür weniger dümmliches Gesülze der Titelheldin hätte dem Buch definitiv nicht geschadet. Mir gefällt die Grundidee der Geschichte immer noch, allerdings war die Ausführung in diesem Fall nur als flach und seicht zu bezeichnen.

Admittedly I skimmed through the book pretty quickly, but loved the idea of a world existing within dreams. I look forward to #3 to find out if Noah is friend or foe and what happens with Dawn Riley's mother. Might even go back and look for #1 at the library.

A different story than I've read before. A half Deamkin and half human, Dawn is the daughter of Morpheus and can go between the two worlds.

Kathryn Smith did it for me again with this second installment of the Nightmare Chronicles. I couldn't put this book down.
If you haven't read the first one, then it'd probably be a good idea to do so. There's not much back-tracking to explain what's going on and what has happened until this point. She gets right into it basically.
In this story, Noah, Dawn's current squeeze gets some bad news about his ex-wife. Of course he asks Dawn to help the ex-wife, which brings up a lot of insecurities about him and what he feels for her.
At the same time, in the dream world, she is fighting for her life. Being a child of a human and the Dreamkin God, Morpheus, she is both revered and hated. A faction of the Dreamkin world are out to destroy her and her father and the constant power plays that go on are totally delicious, keeping up the tension.
I'd say what carries this story is Kathryn Smith's excellent world building. The dreamworld and how it works, the hierarchy issues, the rules, how, while these beings have powers that humans don't have they still operate with human type flaws, all come together to make a fascinating read. There's something freeing in reading such things in a world that is set in contemporary times, but which is not based completely in current reality.
The second thing that carries this story is Dawn herself. She's just an amazing character. Very real with flaws and normal chicky concerns about her weight, and jealousies, not wanting to be this pivotal being that could save or destroy a whole universe. She's so honest but ready to kill if needed. I love her inner conflicts as she tries to defend herself and Noah against her enemies, while trusting people she doesn't know really. And her constant references to everyday things women chat about makes her really down to earth.
The third thing is Dawn and Noah's relationship. Their getting together happened in book 1, but since they are still working things out and Dawn is like a super hero of another world, there are a few kinks that need to be dealt with. On the whole though, Noah is a yummier than chocolate cake with whipped cream on top. He's that perfect hero, even if he is more of a supporting character. His calmness and readiness to jump in there and take care of Dawn,, be her rock without acting cocky or stupid is so my perfect hero type.
Again, as in the last book, Dark Side of Dawn was left with a new, open-ended twist, so there's more to come. Yay!

Das Cover überzeugt nicht nur als Blickfang, sondern fühlt sich durch den Glanzdruck auch gut an.
Der zweite Band der Reihe knüpft gut an den ersten Band an. Einiges wird auch wieder aufgergiffen. Dadurch viel mir der Einstieg in das Buch sehr leicht. Die Spannung wurde konstant aufrecht erhalten, was das Lesevergnügen erhöht. Vorallem auf den letzten 120 Seiten, hier konnte ich das Buch einfach nicht aus der Hand legen.
Die Geschichte geht zum Teil um den Vergewaltiger Phil, dieser hat sich an Amanda (Noahs Ex-Frau) vergangen. Ich bin froh das dies nicht geschildert wurde. Ansonsten wurde das Thema so realitätsnah und ernst wie möglich behandelt. Amanda hat in diesem Band definitiv mein Mitgefühl.
Der andere Part der Geschichte geht um die Aktivitäten von Dawn in der Traumwelt. Oder besser gesagt um die Verstöße des Gesetzes. Daher muss sie vor ein dem Hohen Rat, was eigentlich eine Art Gericht ist, verantworten. Den Vorsitz hat ihre bis dahin unbekannte Halbschwester Padera. Sie ist die Tochter von Madrene und Morpheus. Und da Dawn zum Teil ein Mensch ist verachtet Padera sie und will sie fertig machen.
Antwoine und Madrene sind endlich wiedervereint (dank Dawn).
Auch die Beziehung von Noah spielt eine sehr große Rolle. Die Beiden, Dawn und Noah, geben ein eingespieltes Team ab. Trotz verschiedener Differenzen.
Nebenbei versuchen die realen Geschwister von Dawn ihre Mutter mit Hilfe eines Spezialisten aufzuwecken. Was aber nicht klappt.
Die verschiedenen Handlungsstränge sind sehr fesselnd und haben dafür gesorgt das ich mich nicht gelangweilt habe. Außerdem wurden sie so geschickt und großartig miteinander verwoben das alles authentisch wirkt.
Manchmal kam es mir so vor als würde es das Traumreich wirklich geben.
Jedoch lies die Autorin das Buch mit einer schockierenden Nachricht den Roman enden. Ich kann also nur inständig hoffen, das noch ein dritter Band rauskommt, sodass die Reihe einen guten Abschluss erhält.
Der Schreibstil von Kathryn Smith ist grandios. Genauso mitreißend wie im ersten Band. Die erotischen Szenen sind sehr gut gelungen und wirkten nicht überzogen. Manchmal wurden sie nur angedeutet, was dem Buch keinen Abbruch tat.

Dawn and Noah are back in the newest installment of Kathryn Smith's Nightmare Chronicles series. Their relationship faces a new strain when Noah's ex-wife, Amanda, is raped and Noah, still listed as her next-of-kin, rushes to her side. Dawn knows that she shouldn't feel jealous of a woman who was just beaten, partially scalped, and raped, but she can't help feeling that Noah may still hold a torch for Amanda. Meanwhile, Dawn's problems in the Dreaming are coming to a head. She must face the Council for bringing Noah into the Dreaming, so they can determine whether or not she is a threat and should be unmade. It's probably not a good sign that the Warden has it out for her. Between the rapist on the streets and the Council hounding her in the Dreaming, Dawn isn't safe awake or dreaming.
I fell in love with The Nightmare Chronicles when I read the first book back in February '09. It's such a fascinating concept, and, of course, I will read just about anything with Greek mythology. I am not too much of a fan of Dawn's occasional psychological ramblings - one too many sessions with a bad therapist, I'm afraid - but I love everything else about this series. Especially Noah. He can visit my dreams any time! Here's hoping that there will be a new installment soon!

I am not too much of a fan of Dawn's occasional psychological ramblings - one too many sessions with a bad therapist, I'm afraid - but I love everything else about this series. Especially Noah. Zum Inhalt: Dawn Riley ist zur Hälfte Mensch und zur Hälfte Trauwesen, ein Nachtmahr. Dies scheint einigen Leuten in der Traumwelt ein Dorn im Auge zu sein und sie schaffen es, dass sie vom Rat der Nachtmahre des Verrates und Gesetzbruches angeklagt wird. Falls die Klage Erfolg hat droht Dawn in der Traumwelt die Auslöschung, was ihr Menschenleben für immer ändern würde. Und selbst ihr Vater Morpheus scheint machtlos zu sein, um seiner Tochter zu helfen, obwohl er ein Gott und der König der Träume ist.
Meine Meinung: Dieses Buch war besser als der Vorgänger. Die Geschichte war spannender, voller Intrigen und die wachsende Beziehung zwischen den beiden Sturschädeln Dawn und Noah war einfach schön mitanzusehen. Ich mochte Dawn als Protagonistin und die Wendungen, die die Geschichte nahm, auch wenn das Ende mir ein wenig zu offen war.
Gesamtfazit: Eine gute Fortsetzung, die besser war als Tochter der Träume, aber leider war das Ende ein wenig unbefriedigend und hätte noch Potential für eine Fortsetzung, die es nicht gibt.

January 5, 2016Ok so I started reading this book...got 90% of the way done...then life got hectic and honestly it just didnt grab me so i didnt even look at it for 2 weeks. Because i cant remember most of what happened (and have no desire to start over) I'm not going to rate this out of fairness and because i really cant remember how i felt about the first 90% of the book my review will be unusually short.
Ok well one of the things i loved about the first book was that it grabbed me from the start and never let me go. This did not do that unfortunately. I can't remember exactly why but it was really hard to get into and it never sucked me all the way in. I felt like there was a lot of unnecessary drama in this one that didn't really add to the plot (which I didn't find as exciting as the last one) and the romance didn't really fare too well either. Overall a disappointing follow up. And apparently i'm not the only one who felt that way since the book ended on a cliffhanger 5 years ago with no next book...kinda wish i had just stopped at number one :/

This book closes follows Before I Wake but focuses on the Warden of the Nightmare Council, who hates Dawn with a passion and Noah, her human boyfriend who keeps getting attacked by nightmares. Padera, the Warden, fights dirty and uses all of her abilities including the one that allows her to convince a human to do terrible things...to Dawn. So while Dawn is fighting for her very life, Noah is dealing with his ex-wife's rape and brutal attack. Since they haven't been dating long, Dawn faces major insecurity and of course, jealousy.
I liked Dawn's growth and maturity and her realization that life isn't fair but that can be overcome by love and family. Definitely one of those series that you must read in order as you would have absolutely no idea what was going on if you hadn't read the first book. I love this series and an eagerly awaiting the sequel.

January 18, 2023Este libro llegó a mis manos en la FIL 2022, no estaba en mi radar. Pero la historia como que me atrajo. Cuando llego a casa, me llevo la sorpresa de que tiene un libro antes. Ahí me tienes buscando como loca en Google.
Ahora que he terminado los dos libros, no se si fue una buena elección o no. No es malo, pero tampoco es un 10. Siento que el querer funcionar a los Dioses y los humanos era una buena idea; pero necesite más trasfondo para terminar de cuajar la historia. Me tarde como 2 semanas, me parece 🤔 es que por momentos me aburrida y luego lo retomaba y volvía a entrar en el hilo de la historia.
Por último! Tengo un detalle, este libro tiene 3ra parte? Porque el final a mi me ha dejado con algunas preguntas sin responder, si alguien sabe, me lo hacen saber.

Siento que el querer funcionar a los Dioses y los humanos era una buena idea; pero necesite más trasfondo para terminar de cuajar la historia. Me tarde como 2 semanas, me parece 🤔 es que por momentos me aburrida y luego lo retomaba y volvía a entrar en el hilo de la historia.
Por último! Tengo un detalle, este libro tiene 3ra parte? Porque el final a mi me ha dejado con algunas preguntas sin responder, si alguien sabe, me lo hacen saber.

OMGOODNESS!!! This book was an excellent follow up to the first. The Villian, the chracters, Dawn's relationships with her Dad, Mom, and Noah were written superbly. The Dynamic and realism that comes with our conflicting emotions about right and wrong, trust, forgiveness, betrayal, love and hate were shown here with sincerity. The fact that the truth is not always easy to accept let alone confront.
More explosive battles, love scenes, down right scary at times. And the surprise (sort of) development with Verek and Dawn, and the secrets of her father Morpheus and his own demons. This one is defiantely a must read that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I could not put this one down.

I was suprised when I picked up a copy of RT and found this under Urban Fantasy. I'm one thats not fond of UF because most seem to have different lovers I know its picky, but its just me..
I really liked both books. I like the ideal of dreaming its different and Smith gives you a little cilff hangers at the end so you can't wait for the next book.. I love Dawn in this book she finds herself trusting Noah more and what can you say Noah is awesome..
Again if you are a paranoraml HEA kind of person please give this series a try..

I didn't even read the first book. Wasn't aware it was a 2nd in a series until after purchasing it. I read it anyway.
I'd really be giving this a 3.75 stars so I'm rounding up to 4.
I'll have to find the others in this series. It took me a few tries to get this book started. This last time it was able to catch my interest. I think all other tries came during a reading funk where I just couldn't get interested in anything. My suggestion because of that is to not give up on it. Once it grabbed me I couldn't put it down.

In this book Dawn is exploring her life as a Nightmare and struggling with her relationship with Noah her gorgeous artist boyfriend. Not to mention her family wanting to unplug mom. This book was very good however I am STILL waiting for book 3. It can't just be left hanging like that! No spoilers, you will have to read it for yourself.

this was a pretty good good second book in the series, Nightmare chronicles. It still had the attraction of the character froms the second book. it really didn't surprise that the god of dream has more children, other than dawn. the cliff hanger at the end is really killing me. i hope she write the next book in the series soon.

I loved it! It was very actioned packed. It drew me in very easily and kept me hooked until the last second, I hope she will write another book and keep the series going! Im excited to try some of her other stuff and see how I feel about them! Its an amazing read an will hook you the first second and keep you hooked until the very end

Absolutely fantastic! I just knew it would be better than book 1, which I loved. The plot thickens as well as Noah's mysterious intentions, there's a cliff hanger but it's not an irritating one; it just makes me want to the next one RIGHT NOW.

I put this on the "that kind of chick lit" bookshelf, but that is rather unfair. It really isn't "that" kind of book, but it does a have a scene or two of that nature. Really though, it was well written, fast, light read that I enjoyed quite a lot.

It was almost too simple a read; not many wordly descriptions, and the descriptions that were present were pretty repetitive. But, the setting and overall idea was so creative and unique that I overall enjoyed the book.

Awesome paranormal romance story. Very interesting characters and story regarding the dream world and crossing over into it. I really enjoyed this book which I read before I read the first one.
