Book One of The Salinas Valley Saga. From the farmers of the 1900s to the men and women of the 1990s, this series tells the story of a California family connected with the Salvation Army, devoted to God and deeply proud of their heritage. Carrie McLean's family is trying to farm a plot of land in arid northern California, but the drought is worsening. Do the willow trees hold the promise of water?
When I first started reading this saga, I thought she was probably a new author and I felt that the story was not written that well. As I continued on, I fell in love with story and then read the #2 of the series, The Salinas Valley Saga. It becomes a very good continued story of a family who moves to a hard, dry, land to find a new home. With the introduction of wells, and a few good rains, the Lord blesses their work to have gardens, crops, good food supply. It began as a Salvation Army town and it is interesting to see how God works in this community and in the lives of the ones that move away for a time also.
