Before we dive into the content, I’m going to share a bit of my story with you. My name is Richard Jacobs and I’m not an attorney. I’ve been accused of being one, but I’m not. I want to make that clear right off the bat. I’ve never been to law school and unfortunately, I never will. However, my gift and skill set is marketing. I specialize in marketing legal services for small firms, generally one to three attorneys in all practice areas including estate planning, criminal defense, personal injury, family law, real estate, business litigation, and so on. This is my main market and I know it very well. Like I mentioned, I didn’t’ go to law school but I take the approach of looking at legal services from the point of view of your clients. I see legal problems, your services, your experiences, and your accolades from the eyes of potentials because I’ve been one myself. I’ve needed legal services from time to time throughout my life. For example, I was in a car accident 20 years ago. I filed for bankruptcy once before. I’ve even had various brushes with the law with traffic tickets. I’ve done my estate planning and so on. I’ve had to hire attorneys in six or seven practice areas over the past 20 years or so. I’ve been a potential and at times, I’m still a potential. I want to tell you a quick story. When I first started my company, I built myduiattorney.org. We provided DUI leads to attorneys nationwide. All said and done we put out over 35,000 leads over just a few years. Eventually it was sold to a competitor, but we did really well. I then decided I wanted to go beyond that. I wanted to offer a full suite of marketing services to my attorneys. Just giving them leads wasn’t enough. That’s why I expanded my services to become Speakeasy Marketing. For nearly 11 years, we have been going strong. In addition to running Speakeasy Marketing, I’ve authored several books based on my experiences. Secrets of Attorney Marketing is now in its third edition. A fourth is on its way in another year or so. I’ve also done the Attorney Authority Reboot book, about creating a Speak a Book. I’ve been part of the Ultimate Local Guide To Business Marketing and have been invited to speak at the NACDL and the American Bar Association. Additionally, I conducted a webinar for the Young Lawyers Division, and I’ve had the opportunity to speak at PILMMA and Local Lawyers Meetup Groups about our Speak a Book and about attorney marketing. We are currently in talks with several bar associations to host a Virtual Closing System seminar for some of their people. What I am trying to say, is that I’ve been around and speaking on the circuit for a while now. It is important to me. I’ve been in this industry a long time and I know it very well. I’ve dealt with it from many perspectives for quite a long time. All of this is to say, I have a unique perspective which will help your firm grow, now in the time of the pandemic, as well into the future.
This is the third book of Richard Jacobs that I have read and I appreciate his straightforward and practical approach towards legal marketing. The first chapter of the book is quite interesting followed by a unique marketing idea for attorneys. Highly recommended to attorneys.
