Amazing and wonderful book. Ms. Moran grabbed me from the first page. It was sweet, hot, and touching. Xavier doesn't know what he's getting himself into after hiring Peyton. She knows him better then anyone. He needs her by his side. It's important to him, and his company.

Peyton knows Xavier to be a wonderful person, boss, and now something more. It's just scares her a bit. She's lost a lot. But she falls for Xavier. Not sure what to do about it.

Buy the book and see what happens. Truly a must read.

Loved It!!! Another fabulous read by Kelly Moran. Hot billionaire Xavier needs to hire someone for PR of his company. Once Peyton is again in his life he holds back his feelings for her. His anxiety attacks are bad. Peyton keeps him calm. Once the attraction is unleased Holy Moly it is hot. This book did bring on the tears at different times. This book is emotional, heartfelt and heartwarming. This book is a must read.

Some book simply need more than 5 stars and this is one of them. Every book I've read by Kelly Moran has me saying the same thing in the reviews but it's because it's always true. Her characters are just so real and well written. Even her 'billionaire businessman' is beautifully flawed in a way that normal every day people are. I get so connected with her characters I don't want the books to end.
This book sucks you in from page one which is another thing I love about it. Then you are hooked until the end.
Xavier is a leading man you just have to read to believe. Peyton brings out the best in him and it had me going aww more than once. Peyton is an amazing girl with a huge heart but is a bit flawed too. She is perfect for Xavier and I was cheering these guys on hoping for the ending I wanted.
This book come highly recommended as do all of the books ivey read from this author so far.

Wow, I loved this book! I stayed up until 4:30 in the morning and made myself put it down with 20% to go, only to wake up 3 hours later, dying to finish!

I adored Xavier's vulnerability (I'm sucker for a broken hero), and Peyton was such a perfect match for him. A counterbalance, indeed.

This book was also incredibly well-written. Very thorough and immensely satisfying. I don't reread books, but I might reconsider for this book. It was THAT good. <3

This is my first book by Kelly Moren and I have to say she sucked my in from the beginning. Xavier has a successful software company and he does well on his own but he needs someone to help him with public relations. He is known as cold hearted. He decides to hire Peyton Storm. She became his friend in school even though she was the popular one and he was the geek. But all grown up he's no longer the geek. He's built and strong but Payton counterbalances him. She calms and teaches him how to present himself in public. For two long years they are just employee and employer but Xavier wants more. You can't help but hope the Xavier finally gets the right girl which is Payton. But Payton not so sure she's right for him, she's never had anyone care for her like he does besides her brother. Payton's had so many people die that she deserves to have someone to take care of her. This is a very emotional, funny and hot story you'll be hooked from the beginning. Definitely a 5 star read! Xavier appears to have everything...billionaire, handsome, great family. But he is seen as cold and unfeeling. Peyton has lost everything...her parents and brother, her fiance. But she has an amazing outlook on life that naturally draws people to her. When Xavier hires her to help him with his image, their chemistry is off the charts but neither want to ruin their professional relationship so they become friends instead, until suddenly its more.

I loved this book. Xavier is a sexy nerd and his feelings for Peyton are breathtaking. Both characters were so much more than the outside world saw, it was fantastic to see them lower their walls and expose their true feelings. Just an overall wonderful read! Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved this book! Kelly did an amazing job with the storyline and the characters. Xavier was the perfect leading man and the fact that Peyton was his total opposite and balanced him out was amazing. This is one couple, or two people before they became a couple, that kept me wanting more. There was so much between then and Xavier especially stole my heart!

*** ARC Provided By Author In Exchange for Honest Review***

Kelly Moran hits it out of the park with Counterbalance!  Having a sexy, billionaire nerd as the leading man and the girl next door that everyone loves as the leading lady was brilliant. The two had the most tense chemistry I have ever read and it made for a great love story!

Xaviet Gaines is a twenty nine year old billionaire who started his own tech company.  Hes always been the geek growing up and all of society views him as a brooding anti-social business man.  He needs a PR person to help change this image and he has his sights set on one girl, Peyton Smoke.  He is determined to get her to work for him, even if it means begging.

Peyton Smoke was the popular cheerleader in High School and the one girl everyone loved.  She loves her job in PR but she is lacking two things in her life, love and family.  She meets with Xavier because she is curious at what he wants and when he offers her an amazing position, she accepts after he begs a little.

Two people who are total opposites of each other is an amazing story to read.  Peyton is so full of love and compassion that she has to teach Xavier a lot to get him to thaw, or break down his wall.  Everything she does leads to her turning his life around and he suddenly finds that he cannot go a day without her in his life.

I just wanted to constantly hug Xavier because even though he grew up with amazing & loving parents, he never left his geeky frame of mind after he became sexy.  He has always felt left out to people and just shy and introverted.  Opening up is a huge thing to him and as a reader, Kelly makes you want to be the one who helps him.

I have to give this book 5 stars because it tugged at my heart and just had so many feels to it!  Kelly did an amazing job and I cannot wait to read more from her!

5 stars!!

This phenomenal book by Kelly Moran takes you on one incredible journey with amazing characters. The story itself was well written and has a plot that flows flawlessly; it leaves the reader with all their questions answered and has a very happy ending. The characters were amazing; each has a wonderful amount of depth and change that you can't help but fall in love with them.

Xavier Gaines is your typical male geek, but he has difficulty in the personality department. That's where the lovely Peyton Smoke comes in. She's his PR person and his right hand lady for everything that happens in the public eye. They are both incredible on their own, but when they stop fighting their feelings and the fact that they are boss/employee, Xavier and Peyton are scorching hot. I enjoyed watching them change and evolve as the book progressed. Peyton has dealt with a lot of loss in her life, but the death of her fiance really hit home for me; he was a military man suffering from PTSD and because I married a Marine with PTSD I know firsthand how hard it is to live with it, much less try to help deal with it. Peyton's pain is something that I felt several times in the book. Xavier has not had to deal with that kind of loss, but he's suffered in life as well; he may be a genius but he has a lot of problems with speaking in public and in large crowds. Together, Xavier and Peyton help each other overcome their grief and obstacles. Watching them evolve into two people who finally understand just what love is and accept it, was incredibly beautiful.

This book has a happy ending and no cliffhanger for those who don't like having to wait for the next story. I truly hope you'll pre-order your copy today and when you get it, that you fall in love with X and Peyton.

My Review:

I have thoroughly enjoyed every delectably written Kelly Moran book I have picked up. She has never failed to provide an amusing and engaging read and Counterbalance continues in that vein – it was full of feels, humor, and delightful visuals. Her writing is insightful, witty, and cleverly observant. She so deftly sets the emotional tone and flavor of each detailed scene and uniquely appealing character with mastery. Her books contain such vibrant detail that I feel I am right there watching, lurking in a corner, or peering in a window. Ms. Moran’s word voodoo pulls me in while her endearing characters hold me captive.

I adored Peyton and Xavier. Xavier had always been socially awkward and as a smart geek had been bullied in school. As an adult, he could appear “as arctic as a glacier in Greenland,” when he was actually suffering from social anxiety and in fact, had a huge, tender, and altruistic heart. Peyton had already experienced far too many significant losses and had lost her entire family and fiancé over a short period and during a young age. I relished their sweet and thoughtful consideration of each other as well as the underlying heat to their attraction, which later bloomed into steamy sensuality. Once the geek turned on the charm he evolved into a romantic alpha and pure seduction, and sigh, I was goo.

I absolutely LOVED Counterbalance! Computer nerd turned billionaire falling in love with his marketing director. The story was so sweet, the characters were well developed, and I felt a deep emotional connection to them. Also another thing I really loved was all the nerd/tech speak to describes emotions etc... in scenes and some of the nerdy/nostalgic refrences (THE MUPPETS!!!!) ;) Also just a side note, because the main female character is named Peyton Smoke, and Xavier is a geeky billionaire I totally envisioned Penelope Smoke and Oliver from Arrow. They are my Peyton and Xavier!

Peyton was an an amazingly kind and caring character. From the way she treated Xavier when they went to school together to how she treats any person she comes into contact with. She is just a pure and genuine person. Xavier is a largely misunderstood character that keeps to himself. Because of issues he has with large crowds and being in the public eye he is viewed as cold and uncaring. When his company secures a contract with an account that will push him into the public spotlight he hires Peyton as his marketing director to be able to help his public persona. No matter how hard he tries, there is always that pull towards her. What will happen when their walls come crashing down and they finally show their true feelings for each other.

This book had so many great scenes, it's hard to pick a favorite. I loved the scene at Xavier's parents house and outside by the tree, I loved the meaning behind the key necklace and what happened on Peyton's birthday. The side characters were great and there was seriously nothing I didn't love about this book.

I will be reading lots more of Kelly Moran's books in the future!!!

Counterbalance by Kelly Moran

A harmonious, sweet and spicy romance between billionaire businessman, Xavier Gaines and the woman who was his secret salvation long ago. Peyton Smoke, comes to work at Gaines Industries, a Fortune 500 company. She becomes essential to the operation of the company to Xavier by melting the public image that was current and molding their views to see the actual persona of the man. She is a beautiful woman who brings out the best in everyone she meets--especially Xavier Gaines. He sees there is something hiding beneath the surface that Peyton protects so well--and stands by her to discover what it is. As time passes, their friendship has sparked into a romance deeper than either saw coming.

I found this book, a reviewed ARC, to be a delightful read! The characters are complex and humanistic--although they were occasionally exhausting with the feels. However, I understand this is to convey each character's flaws. The story flows and never strays far beyond its original plot. I found myself hoping at the end of the book for a spinoff second novel showcasing the supporting characters, Joseph and Kate. There is a story there and it's HUGE!!! Kelly Moran writes with a devotion that leaves her fans waiting for the next story!!!

Xavier Gaines needs someone to help him be less awkward in social situations and help him find a way to handle the public limelight that he's sure to land himself in once he signs the government contract his software company has landed. There's only one person he trusts for the job -- Peyton Smoke. Can she help him while keeping their relationship strictly professional, or will Xavier fall for the one woman off limits to him because they work together?

What happens when a beauty comes face-to-face with a geek years after they went to High School together? Another incredible read by Ms. Moran, which enthralled me from start to finish with its well-written dialogue, fast-paced plot, a sexy alpha hero that really grows throughout this story, a wonderful heroine that has suffered several losses and needs to realize that not everyone will abandon her, and secondary characters that I enjoyed just as much as the main ones. The way this story started drew me in to this story immediately, as Xavier desperately needs Peyton's help. Since it seems even his employees fear him a little from what they call him.

As for the dialogue, it was compelling, well-written and I loved the banter between Peyton and Xavier as well as between the main characters and the secondary ones. There was sarcasm and plenty of moments where I smiled, yet there were also moments where I wanted to cry. The reaction of Xavier's parents when he tells them some personal news and the person responsible for making threats towards one of the main characters took me by surprise. Why would Xavier's parents assume that he and Peyton were more than friends? Why did someone Xavier thought could be trusted threaten Peyton? Moreover, I really liked the banter between Peyton and some of the secondary characters. She excels as the Public Relations Director for Gaines Industries, and isn't afraid to use her feminine charms such a little flirting to get what she wants to help dispel Xavier's unflattering image with the media.

The main characters back stories were riveting, and I could sympathize with both of them in various moments throughout this story. Peyton has serious abandonment issues and I could understand why because she's lost everyone she loves such as her parents to an accident, her brother to war, and her fiancé to personal reasons. How much loss does one woman have to deal with before she says enough is enough? Can she overcome her fears to find happiness with Xavier? However, the heroine is also strong and brave because she's been able to pick up the pieces and move on from those devastating losses to get to where she is in her life.

While Xavier, he really grows throughout this story. For a socially awkward geek at the start, he certainly arises to the occasion in facing the media when a situation needs dealing with. Furthermore, I liked the close friendship he had with his bodyguard, Joseph, because the man wasn't afraid to give his opinion to Xavier or Peyton, as he cares about them both and wants them to be happy. Then there's the growing friendship between Xavier and Kate, Peyton's best friend. They're enemies at first, but once Kate begins to see how much the hero cares for the heroine, she mellows enough to help Xavier make Peyton see that they're meant to be together.

Overall, Ms. Moran has penned a worthwhile read in this book where the strong chemistry between Xavier and Peyton spills over onto the pages in passionate moments that showcased their chemistry really well. The way this story ended had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, because Peyton needed Xavier just as much as he needed her to be happy. However, what I liked most about the ending was the reactions by everyone to Xavier's question for Peyton. Certainly, Joseph knows how to distract Kate from taunting Xavier and his mother is eager to get to work planning. I would highly recommend Counterbalance, especially if you like the friends to lovers trope or books by authors MacKenzie Crowne, Erin Nicholas or Jill Sanders.

Xaviar - geek, billionaire, social anxiety, successful, quiet, and oh so sexy
Petyon - outgoing, popular, fiesty, and lonely

Can two opposites attract, fall in love and have a HEA. They certainly can but now with out plenty of bumps and emotional fall outs along the way. This story will make you fall in love with two people that are not perfect. They are whole but broken and you will feel all their emotions right along side them as you turn the pages. I cried, yelled, laughed and swooned as I was reading this. There were some surprising moments from Xaviar throughout the book.

If you want a romance with just the right amount of angst to crack your heart into pieces and put it back together then you need to read this book. The secondary characters were also awesome. A page turner that will keep you reading to the end with baited breath for the HEA.

I voluntarily read and advanced copy of this book.

4,5/5⭐️ „When you Look at me“ von Kelly Morgan ist meiner Meinung nach eine super süße New Adult Liebesgeschichte.

Wow I have never read a book about a geeky Alpha male with social issues before but ladies let me tell you Xavier will leave your kindle hard drive melting down. This computer terms through out the book just added more to this story.

Xavier and Payton find that opposites attached and it makes them have a Counterbalanced. I love the secondary characters just as much as the main.

This was my first book from this author but I will be looking for more of her work.

Peyton Smoke and Xavier Gaines have known each other since High School, he was a geek and she was a Cheer Leader but, now Xavier is a CEO of his own company Gaines Industries, a Fortune 500 company which is making millions. Peyton has lost a lot, her parents in a car accident when she was younger, she lost her brother in the war and her boyfriend to suicide due to PTSD. Xavier's successful software company is about to sign a government contract that’ll land him smack in the middle of the public limelight, and his lifelong battle with social anxiety has marked him as a cold, uncaring jerk in the eyes of the press. He needs help and he hires Peyton to to be his Media Relations Director. The chemistry between them starts to heat up and oh WOW.

You can't read this book and NOT love Xavier. He is an extremely handsome, intelligent, brains-to-the-nth-degree billionaire who appears to have the world at his feet. Looks can be deceiving. Social anxiety and insecurities leave him coming off as cold and detached.

Peyton is amazing! She's everything Xavier is not. She appears sure of herself and takes media attention and social outings in stride. You would never know she deals with abandonment issues. She's known Xavier since high school and knows this man is more than a heartless billionaire. She accepts the position of marketing director but will she accept a more permanent position in Xavier's personal life?

To the world, Xavier Gaines is a cold, calculating billionaire. In reality, he's just a computer geek battling severe social anxiety issues. When attending social events related to his business, Xavier tries to tamp down on his nervousness by minimal speaking and mingling, leading people to believe he is cold and aloof.

When Xavier's company needs to land a huge but sensitive contract, he realises that his public image in the media needs desperate improvement. He hires Peyton Smoke as his media relations manager and her job description involves micro-managing his social appearances, interviews, public image etc.

It was a welcome relief to read about a man who had real flaws and insecurities. True, he was rich, brilliant and hard working but his flaws made him so believable as a character. He was also kind and sensitive towards Peyton throughout.

I liked Peyton. She was excellent at her job and a wonderful human being. I could sympathise with the poor girl when most men tried to get close to her only to get access to Xavier Gaines.

It was a beautiful story, with the romance being slow and tender. The best part was that every aspect of the story and the characters was so believable.

Xavier and Peyton knew each other in high school. He was the genius geek, she the captain of the cheerleaders. Peyton liked him and tried to bring him into her circle. He felt way too out of place. Xander is now a millionaire software genius. But is considered "arctic." Peyton is a marketing whiz......everybody loves her and will bend over backwards to please her. Can she break down his social anxiety and show what a good man he is? Slow, very sexy build up, but eventually they can't fight it anymore. It is hot, has a touch of mystery and a very sweet love story. Full review on http://www.tbqsbookpalace.com on March 22.....

I liked so much the secondary characters,Xavier's lovely parents and Peyton's best friend that I hope will get her own book.

From the first page virtually I knew I was going to love this book and as the story developed and I got drawn into the characters and their lives, I was not wrong…this is may very well be one of my favourite reads of the year to date.
I loved the way that despite his wealth, software superstar Xavier, was normal, he wasn’t perfect, far from it but while other might have perceived him to be a little on the cold side, I actually thought that nothing could have been further from the truth, he just hadn’t found the right person and so when he hired a Peyton, I just knew that he was stepping outside his comfort zone for a reason and it wasn’t just to do with business.
Peyton was everything that Xavier needed and with her by his side, he was the man that I think he was always destined to be, she gave him a grounding, that only enhanced a man that I had fallen head over heels with anyway.
Peyton, well she was my star of the read, she was such an amazing woman, with a heart the size of Texas and a love that knew absolutely no bounds, the way she was with Xavier was just so encouraging and so loving that it would be impossible to find a couple that were more perfectly suited. They may have dilly dallied somewhat around the whole employee/employer bit to start with but this pair were only ever going to end up one way, together!
A super emotional read that had pockets of humour and more than enough aww, moments along the way, simply put this was simply perfect!

Xavier hires Peyton to help him overcome his anxiety when in the medias spotlight. He has know her since school but not seen her in many years. They work close and she does help him. Now she cannot accept that he loves her for her and not as a crutch. Love the interaction between the main characters and secondary characters as well. Well done.

Excellent!

Ahhh there's nothing like the sexy, nerdy guy and Kelly Moran nailed it with Xavier Gaines. When reading a blurb containing the words successful billionaire, you think instant alpha a-hole and it couldn't be further from the truth in Counterbalance.

I was immediately drawn to X's personality. Sure it wasn't the "norm", but I liked his slight vulnerability and the fact that he was so accomplished, yet didn't know what to do when confronted with the public eye, as well as personal relationships. Yes he's dated various women, but none of them mattered, until Peyton Smoke enters the picture.

"That's why I hired her. She finds the human factor the world can't see."

Peyton Smoke didn't really know what she was getting into when accepting the PR job from the elusive Xavier Gaines. She's read that he was cold and aloof, yet the man she is sitting in front of seems nothing of the sort. In fact, the more she gets to know him, the more she sees he is the exact opposite of what the media portrays.

That was what kept me reading this book, Peyton's instant understanding of X and his personality. She seemend to know exactly what he needed and when, business-wise. We follow the employee/employer relationship for a few years, setting up a nice foundation and getting to know them before Kelly Moran drops the love bomb and now we have to hope it doesn't change everything.

"You showed the world he has a heart. Don't break it."

Famous last words. Page after page I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop on this perfect, not so perfect couple. Him with his personality druthers and her with the ghosts from her past, it was bound to throw a wrench in this thing called love sooner or later. It was the perfect amount of angst a story like this needed.

The book is well written and along with X and Peyton, we get Kate, her best friend and Joseph, who is X's confidant and much more. These two lightened things up at the perfect moments. While I liked the story and characters, there is one thing that sticks out in my mind even when it's all said and done, the term of endearment honey. The word felt out of place when used by X, like it was forced. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the story of Peyton and X and maybe we can peek in on them if Kate and Joseph get thier own book. Hint, hint.

Xavier knows he needs to change his public image: while he's successful, he comes across as cold due to a self-diagnosed social anxiety problem. Enter Peyton Smoke. Once upon a time, he tutored Peyton in high school. Now, she is a talented and successful media relations expert looking for a change. When Xavier offers her the opportunity to work as the media relations director for his company, she takes him up on his offer and discovers that underneath that cold demeanor is a compassionate and generous man. Neither are prepared for the attraction that eventually grows between them.

It is always a pleasure to read a Kelly Moran book and this is no different. Xavier Gaines is a man who knows he needs help if he wants to change his image and keep his company successful and Peyton Smoke is one of the few people he trusts. This book also has two of my favorite tropes: friends-to-lovers and office romance. Both tropes are handled well, including the rather sticky situation of Peyton working for Xavier. There is not even a hint of coercion in the relationship.

The focus of the book is on Xavier and Peyton but secondary characters do appear and shine through. Joseph, Xavier's friend and bodyguard, has a great friendship with Peyton and provides advice to both Xavier and Peyton. I wish we see more of Kate, Peyton's best friend, but what we do see of her is refreshing.

My only complaint is that I think Peyton is portrayed as pretty much perfect. This may, in part, be due to the book being mostly told from Xavier's point of view, and he has definitely placed her on a pedestal. He trusts her and her opinion, especially when it comes to emotions, almost more than his own.

Overall, Moran has written a fantastic romantic book. As is usual with her male heroes, Xavier performs a number of romantic gestures throughout the book. Peyton and Xavier have a solid friendship that shines through outside of their romantic one. I loved the emphasis on charity work and giving back to the community as well. I greatly enjoyed reading this and pretty much read it in one sitting.

Final grade: 4.5 stars

Great romance…part office/corporate romance and part friend’s to lover’s romance! Xavier Gaines appears to have everything he’s wanted at his fingertips. He should be full of confidence with all that he’s been able to accomplish, but that insecure boy he once was still lives inside of him. He comes across in the media as cold and aloof. He turns to the only woman, Peyton, who can help them. She was the girl in school who always defended him against the bullies, and everyone loved her. She happens to be work in PR. If anyone can change his image, it’s her. Xavier has always had feelings for her, and as the two spend more time together, she realizes she has feelings for him. Sounds like these two are on the road to their HEA…but not so fast. Not only does she have abandonment issues, but she thinks he confused his feelings of love for appreciation for her friendship and all she’s done for him.

Counterbalance was a well-written book with great characters and a fantastic storyline. I loved the pacing of the story as well. The romance wasn’t really fast-paced, and readers were given a chance to really enjoy the friendship between Xavier and Peyton. There was plenty of sexy flirting between them, and all the teasing Moran gave us was well worth it. Even with the stalker element and the angst between them, it never overpowered their story. Both characters were extremely complex. Through the dual POVs, I was able to see just how complicated they were. Each chapter was a deeper look into their personalities. Counterbalance is a great balance of steam and romance. Moran is definitely a writer I will be keeping my eye on.
