About the author

I was born in Blacksburg, a once sleepy college town in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. I grew up thinking I wanted to be a veterinarian; organic chemistry had other ideas. But I always had stories in my head. Eventually, after a few degrees and few cool jobs—including a 10-year stint at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center—I wrote some of those stories down.

I'm the author of several young adult novels, including MEMENTO NORA, THE FORGETTING CURVE, and THE MEME PLAGUE. I’ve also published many short stories, for both adults and teens.

I like the way she started this book with description of writing code for a video game. I have used computers for a very long time and it was nice to find out that you could drag blocks across the screen with commands. At least that’s how this book started. I knew most of the languages that were listed here. I mean I don’t know them but I knew their names I should say. I don’t know if I like the idea of seeing my refrigerator when I’m shopping but OK you know. Might be in there without me knowing it. So I guess we can just all kind of forget the list now I don’t know if I could do that. Because I would forget something even if I could see the refrigerator on my smart phone. My smart phone sometimes can’t even show me the list while in the world would I want to see my refrigerator? But hey some people might want to see their refrigerator. Anyway I don’t know I might enjoy doing computer code. And loops and things I understood because sometimes I wish I could type in the loop I guess you can with Text blocks and such. Anyway I like the book it’s a really great introduction I think it is really neat can learn about complicated things just to get an overview. This is why I enjoy reading children’s books so much I always think did I read things like that when I was little everything else seems complicated these days. But I probably did. :-)

Pretty boring book. I didn't feel like the diagrams and photos did a good job of illustrating concepts. It reads and looks like a 90s book even though it's about a very modern concept.

I mean... the facts were sort of interesting? The rest was boring and not really useful though. Guess it might be interesting for a kid. Not much to do with actual coding.

Nice intro to coding for kids I wish it had a bit more about normal coding HTML5 and not the program Scratch that they recomended.
