aka Sharon Harlow

Bestselling author Sharon Gillenwater writes stories about love—between a man and a woman, of family and home, and the everlasting love of God and Jesus.

She grew up on a ranch in the Rolling Plains of West Texas, near the small town of Colorado City. Marriage took her across the country, but Texas is still dear to her heart. All of her Christian contemporary romances and most of her Christian historical romances are set in small West Texas towns filled with rugged, yet tenderhearted cowboys and strong, yet compassionate women.

While on a trip to England and Scotland years ago, the history and people captured her imagination. After returning home, she discovered Regency romances and another favorite time period and setting. She currently has two Christian Regency historical romances available, along with three sweet historical Regency romances.

She and her husband live in a quiet, rural area of Washington state with a wonderful view of the mountains. A friend once commented, “It’s like a writer’s retreat.” Sharon agrees and is busy dreaming up stories about Texas cowboys or English and Scottish heroes and the women who win their hearts.

Kiernan, a Scottish countryman from the Highlands, inherits a title, then wins a dilapidated mansion in England in a card game. He quickly falls in love at first sight with the previous owner's sister he discovered living there amid the ruins. Mariah, forsaken by her jealous half-brother, left behind penniless to re-establish her own life after being tricked into marriage by an already wedded bloke, then dupped out of her own dowry and dumped, reputation ruined. Mariah rises from her ashes by this earl's wooing and pursuing, leading her back to her own countrymen in Scotland. Little sister Jeanette comes out at the same time her brother wins the mansion. Jeanie is wooed by many suiters, and rescued by the least desirable, yet most unique timing by God above, the worldly yet intriguing Dominic. Even Mother MacPherson gets a love story in this book. Filled with excitement, adventure, danger, good details of the English and Scottish countrysides. I just discovered the follow on tale by Sharon Gillwater, after this one, I'm going to chase down and read. Highland Call. Sharon is a good author, this was my first by her. I'm looking forward to reading more from her, a native Texan after my own heart!

I read the second book so many years ago and I remembered it before Christmas. I decided to buy Song of the Highlands and the work I finished reading years ago.
Great story! Yes, she does mention The Holy Trinity of Christian Faith. Sooo, if you hate that...you MAY have issue with...well, the whole thing. I mean the couples (yep, ya get 2.5 couples in this work) come right out and thank God for their love, accept Jesus as personal savior, and believe in The Spirit moving one in the right path.
My ONLY problem was the description of the dungeon/basement. As a large action part takes place there, I really had to picture it in mind, and still think I have it wrong.
Oh well. Didn’t hurt the enjoyment of it all!
Now, do I read a totally different piece, or visit the “sequel” again.
NOTE: obviously you don’t have to read them in order. :-)

Trust in the Lord.....

What an uplifting, beautiful story to remind us of the pure love of God, our Father. To be able to share experiences of men and women both, sharing their undying beliefs in the forgiveness and acceptance, of our one true Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Life isn't guaranteed to be easy, no matter our beliefs. It is s wonderful reminder to each of us hoe much easier our burdens can be borne when we place our lives in the Hands of Jesus.
Thank you, Sharon Gillenwater, for reminding me of the beauty of living with Jesus.

I had a long review (long for me) here and it is gone.😭. I really enjoyed this book. I liked that there was some suspense although I wouldn't term this a romantic suspense book, per se. There was a lot going on in the book to keep my interest. I plan to read book 2. It is late and I don't remember what I wrote so this will have to suffice.😭

A Bride for Branderee

Oh my goodness what a great story!! Sharon gave us an unforgettable historical romance with a swoon worthy Scottish Laird and lass. I love that she wove the salvation message all through the book while at the same time giving us such strong and faithful characters. Well done Sharon.

This is the first of Gillenwater's books that I have read. The basis of the book is intriguing with some unexpected twists and turns. The author will expand your knowledge of the time's customs and how they differed in London vs. Scotland. The element that cut a star of my rating was the ending. It lacked originality and seemed prescriptive.

This was a romance novel with a very heavy Christian theme throughout. It certainly does not hold a candle to the Outlander series by Gabaldon, but it was an interesting read.

Back to some spy or thriller novels, I guess.

Song of the Highlands

What can a person say? To say I really liked this story could not express how great it really is. It has scripture to help you understand how the characters are feeling, how they perceive the almighty God. Base of the story is really wonderful.

Romance, values, intrigue

I enjoyed the characters and their quirks and depth. I appreciated the sharing of their spiritual values throughout the story naturally. The story was fun and the settings rich in detail. an atmosphere. Enjoy

Too much preaching, took away from book

I enjoyed this book very much...except for one major thing. With all the preaching, it made me skip pages. It made the book way too long. And, it made me want to quit reading it. It could have been 5* if the preaching was cut 95%.

Several main character and sub plots kept this story interesting. I like the next book Highland Call more, so I would recommend this book to set up the characters for the next story. I would have liked to give the book 3.5 stars but had to choose 3.

Not really what I was expecting. much, much too religious for me and too many tidy solutions to everything.
