I would not call this book a typical “guide” in terms of starting in the sport of fly fishing. I would say this is more of a basic Q&A about the various topics of fly fishing. By reading this book you can understand what you need, and how to begin the prep process before getting started. All in all, great book for anyone who is interested in starting.
Thank you once again, Tom Rosenbauer, for a clear and easy-to-read book on fly-fishing. I have only been a fly-fisher for a couple of years, and the book answered many questions for me. Excellent descriptions and illustrations. The diagrams were perfect. I did have a little trouble with the photos - they were a bit dark and it was not easy to see the detail. But the text provided sufficient explanation to make up for it. Tom, you are a star.
Excellent, if short. The pages are printed on card stock to make the book feel more substantial. The information is concise and covers the important information for a beginner without getting bogged down in unnecessary filler fish stories as many other books like this do.
Had it been printed on standard weight paper, it would have been more like a thick pamphlet than a book, so much of the $13 cover price is in the printing and it probably could have been a $4 book just on content.
101 Tips for beginner of fly fishing is a helpful guide by a very trust worthy source and high selling lure company. Personally, this book is very helpful on places to fish, when to fish, and how to fish with certain things. This book is just full of tips though, bu I am a beginner! Also, the book consisted of photos of fish you may catch, and actually a lot more to help. Also, the photos were all color to help me with how to rig and or fish with the fly rods.
I foresee revisiting this time and time again. Just about every topic or question you can think of, as a beginner starting fly fishing, Tom Rosenbauer addresses in this book. Only reason for the 4 star rating is, despite its thoroughness, the book does not address the fundamentals of the basic cast.
This book came free with one of my fly rods. I'm definitely not an absolute beginner, but also don't claim to be a pro either. I learned some new tips from this book, and I've been fly fishing hundreds of times. Even if you don't learn anything, it's an interesting read.
Not bad. found a few useful tips. Don't think you can use this as a real starting guide. Not enough detail to actually do something like say tie a knot.
Solid read for beginners and even rusty fisherman. It's also a great companion to the video series by Orvis as well. I'll keep this on the bookshelf for reference in the future. #orvisfanboy
As a novice angler, I appreciate the simplicity of this book while also respecting the depth of experience it takes to cultivate 101 *actually useful* tips for a beginner.
