Uneven selection of Tynan's writings from the 1950s and early to mid-60s. It has his travel writings, profiles of several authors and show biz personalities, and some politics, drama criticism, and film criticism. Probably the highlight is the article about Hemingway meeting Tennessee Williams in 1958 Cuba. Another one details Tynan's controversy with Truman Capote over "In Cold Blood" . Capote's definitely gets the best of the argument. BTW, the theater criticism is extremely well-written, the film reviews less so. Did Tynan have less liking for film, or were the films less worthy of serious analysis? This led me to a collection of Tynan's English theater criticism. Summary: An interesting potpourri of Tynan's writings - a good place to start if you want to read him.
