Marilyn Meberg's book may be 20 years old, but it is no less relevant today than then. Her insights are sound and helped me in a difficult crisis. Her humor is catching, and for sure, I'd Rather Be Laughing!

The first chapter made me cry ... I picked this book up because even the title reminded me of my late best friend, Jessica. Parts were just meh for me, but I truly enjoyed and gleaned from the last several chapters.

Good reminders:
watch out for 'cheer depleters' and 'awfulizers'
authentic love is loving inspite of imperfection
think about whatsoever lovely
"...make choices about our habits of mind that produce attitudes of cheer."
"I do not believe we are born as optimists or pessimists. Those are states of mind we choose to develop."
"Forgiving the offender does not change the offender...it changes us."
Forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean condoning, reuniting or forgetting.

Toppled Over -Zephaniah 3:16-18
a quote by hannah whitehall smith:
"Put together all the tenderest love you know, the deepest you have ever felt and the strongest that has ever been poured out upon you, and heap upon it all the love of all the loving human hearts in the world, and then multiply it by infinity, and you will begin, perhaps, to have some faint glimpse of the love God has for you."

This book came at the perfect time. I really enjoyed reading this one, especially the chapter near the end that addresses Christians feeling guilt over taking medication for depression. Her explanation of the differences between the soul and spirit were very enlightening.
