"A gripping and entertaining thriller that raises questions and thoughts on the unexpected and the unanticiapted...great book and thoroughly recommend..." Douglas, IndieBooks reviewer.
JD Murphy is an Australian author, based in Queensland and he often asks 'what is life without a good yarn?'. His first novel, The Arbor Girls, published in 2020 was considered one of the best first novels released by a new author and received good reception with reviewers and readers around the globe. JD Murphy's gripping second novel of a contemporary setting, examines the clashes possible between the cultures and faiths inherent in a freedom focused nation such as Australia. It is, above all, created to entertain readers. JD Murphy trusts that they will be wholesomely entertained by yet another acclaimed yarn.
Mango by John D Murphy an Australian author is a suspenseful and gripping thriller. Jade Reynolds is committed to her work as a detective, she believes in criminal justice and thorough when it comes to investigating and solving crimes. She liked to work in locations particular cafes instead of being at the Queensland headquarters.
When a chain of murders starts happening and a threat is made on Jade’s life she must do all she can to survive, little does she know she has had liaisons with this person. Will Jade succeed in her mission? Will she come out of this unscathed? It’s a cold and cruel world, and only the tough will survive.
The plot has enough elements and twists and turns to keep you guessing, the pacing is perfect, the motives for these crimes are shrouded in mystery until it all comes together. There are enough "plausible suspects" to keep you guessing, and this novel has no slow spots where you wander off into anything meaningless. The novel was broken down in segments of countries and categories which made it easy to follow.
There is a vast range of characters in the novel, the main character is well developed and very passionate when it comes to her work but also carries a lot of sadness with her. The supporting characters are well defined and credible. I believe that readers will become invested in Jade Reynolds if the author makes it a series.
This is the first time I have read a John D Murphy novel and I will definitely be looking out for more. I highly recommend it to readers that love a great thriller mystery.
Thank you, Beauty and Lace and Shawline Publishing for the opportunity to read and review.
‘Mango’ unlike anything I’ve ever read before, not having read any of John’s books previously I enjoyed Mango with its myriad of characters, some I embraced more so than others, all playing a critical role in the complex developing story.
The connotation and intended innuendo of the book title ‘Mango’ definitely delivered and lived up to its expectations.
After spending an indulgent weekend with Cynthia, single mum to Oliver, Jade finds herself initiated into the secret world of a select group, where Jade soon discovers there is more to this complex assortment of world-wide female high rollers than first meets the eye.
The promise of new beginnings the relationship barrels along at break neck speed much like the Mercedes sports car Cynthia has generously advised Jade she can borrow anytime she likes along with use of the mansion and the auto-replenishing bank account with an upper limit of one million American dollars with a quarter million-dollar recharge.
The story digresses to a few side tangents and sub plots running concurrently, with their own sub-set of characters, whilst still observing the connective tissue that binds the story together. I even felt a couple of which could easily be extracted and go beyond the main storyline and be fleshed out to full stand-alone stories of their own.
Thank you beauty and Lace for the opportunity to review this titillating read with the author dissecting the dual personality characters openly displaying their inner emotions. The story transcends boundaries, crosses continents, crosses cultures, crosses religions, crosses faith, crosses identities in a very unique and impressive way – if only walls could talk…….
This is a gripping story, with so many themes throughout. It keeps you intrigued, and turning the pages well into the night! Plenty of twists and turns, as you make your way through the story. I am definitely keen to more read Detective Reynolds’ stories, as I enjoyed getting to know her throughout this novel.
