This book was quite a good introduction to the language for anyone who is wholly unfamiliar with the German language. It was also made particularly easy for all the comparisons that it made with English, both in terms of vocabulary and the limited similarities of the grammar. However, one pitfall that the book falls into is the overuse of cognates to the point of neglecting to explain all those words that look like cognates and aren’t like “Also”, “Kuchen”, etc.

I cannot recommend this book in the Kindle format. The audio CD seems essential and is not included. The print version with the audio CD might be great.

This is a workbook used to introduce absolute beginners to German, and should be used as such. It will not teach you German, but it does a very good job at taking someone with zero knowledge (me) and showing them what they're up against. I wouldn't be surprised if this single-handedly took me from A1 to A2, albeit not that that's very impressive. It falls apart a little bit with the more complex ideas towards the end, but I would highly recommend it as a starting point for German study.

I'd like to brush up on my German, and truth be told, after high school, I forgot everything. So that's why I'm starting with this book. It's a good basic (A1/A2) starter book, and for someone who never has learned this language, it's a good book because of the amount of explanation in English that there is. The amount of vocabulary is good, I mean it IS basic and you can't really expect it to be a dictionary otherwise people would be very turned off by the book, and plus they would have a bunch of vocab and not really know how to use it all. so the amount in this book is good. I do wish I could have gotten more exercises from the book though, but if one is able to pair it up with other resources, that want will be covered. So if you're relearning German or starting for the first time, be sure to use other resources just to cover as many topics as you can and to get more examples else where as well.
