Fireweed is a deeply moving and beautifully written story about grief, healing, and the kind of faith that doesn’t come wrapped in easy answers. Janet Stobie captures Renee Grenville’s pain with such realism that I felt every moment of her heartbreak after the sudden loss of her mother. Renee’s emotional unraveling, skipping school, pushing people away, and clashing with her father, feels raw, honest, and incredibly relatable.

What makes this book stand out even more is how it balances tragedy with hope. The stalker storyline adds an intense layer of fear and vulnerability, making Renee’s loneliness even more heartbreaking. But through it all, the author never loses sight of the heart of the story: a father and daughter trying to survive the unthinkable and rebuild their lives.
