The Story of Redemption

Rate this book
In the midnineteenth century God gave Ellen G. White a series of visions concerning the “great controversy of the ages between Christ and Satan.” These visions led her to write a small book entitled Spiritual Gifts, which she later expanded into four volumes of The Spirit of Prophecy. In time these books were amplified and published as the five-volume Conflict of the Ages series.

This volume contains the heart of the Spirit of Prophecy set, plus additional material. In chronological order it covers God’s dealings with the sin problem from the fall of Lucifer to the new earth. The author offers many behind-the-scenes glimpses of Bible history. After tracing the later history of the Christian church, she takes the reader into the future, describing the final events that lead up to the establishment of God’s kingdom. No other single volume deals so concisely with the entire sweep of salvation history.

In brief, Ellen Gould Harmon White was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.

This book covers from the fall of Adam to the new Earth (Gen.-Rev.). It touches on the Reformation, three angels' message, and spiritualism. The narrative explains the Biblical controversy between God and Satan.

This book was very good. It showed how God has been through humanity through the years. It started at the beginning and the fall of man and went from there. The best part of it for me was at the end of the book when it talked about the end times, Jesus coming, and heaven. It is a must read. It demonstrates Gods love for us and also makes us be ready and want to spread the word of Christs soon coming. It talks about some heavy subjects but they are needed in the book. The chapters on Jesus death on the cross were very good too. I didn't know that people were resurrected at Christs resurrection and went and told people that he was risen after that and then went to heaven with Christ.

This book is an incredible piece of history of great mind blowing events. This book actually makes me picture the event that took place before and after Christ. I never thought that there might exist such a valuable piece of literature that can bring you to the past events that happened in this world. I would recommend this book to everyone that would listen and would want to give their lives to Christ but especially the once that don't know about Christ.

I had trouble with this book. When Satan and his angels are destroyed I didn't like the manner in the way it was accomplished. I had to pray about it and did reach an understanding of way it will be.

I have been and still am enjoying this book for some time now. It tells us about the history of the earth and how the Word of God influenced each part of it. I am currently reading about the Third Angel's message. So far I fell encouraged by this book and I hope you'll enjoy reading it as well.

This was a beautiful journey. From the beginning (The Fall of Adam), to the not so old times (The Reformers such as Martin Luther and so forth) to what's coming next (The Return of our Lord). I am definitely going to back to this one and soon too.

I really pray that more persons read this book prayerfully so that the Lord can show His love for them through the Story of Redemption.

Peace.

Esse é um livro excelente para quem deseja ter um panorama geral da Bíblia e dos acontecimentos futuros. Para quem quiser mais profundidade recomendo a leitura da série O GRANDE CONFLITO, da mesma autora.

This was recommended to me by a friend. I couldn't finish it. The writing style just didn't agree with me. I found it difficult to give it the attention it deserved.
