This is the coolest book! It has a moving eye, on the soft hardcover, just like the book in Hocus Pocus!!! Dr. Cornelius Van Helsing, a vampyre expert/hunter and brother to another famous hunter. Here, he's recorded in journal and pop up book format his travels to Transylvania and about the hideous undead. Also commenting is his trusty sidekick Gustav deWolff. This book is very lush, highly interactive, it features everything vampyre! Delve deep inside and discover the true gothic horror of all things vampy from foldout maps, booklets of vampyre myths and lore, Dr. Van Helsing's private letters, pull-tab revelations, ephemera more! This is a pop up book for those who love the dark side but are still a child at heart...!

A great read for this time of year or any other for that matter....this book takes a fictional look at the life of Van Helsing and his assistant as well as an outer peek at the lives of those afflicted by Dracula's terror in the original story. Sprinkled with historical accounts of events, myths, and legend and presented in an interactive book design (fold out pages, inserts to pull out and read,a few pop ups here and there...), it's sure to delight readers of all ages. Travel back to the time of Dracula's reign and see just how one vampyre hunter got his start....and may have met his final end.... *dun*dun*dun* Happy reading!

This is a large size coffee table type "journal". More like a scrapbook with fake newspaper clippings,journal entries, maps, lists and other fun visuals and info. I tis the story of Dr. Cornelius Van Helsing, whose brother, the famous Dr. Van Helsing is ill and likely from a vampire. So he decides that Dracula is not dead. ANd he and his servant Gustav go off to Transylvania to kill him for good. ONly things don't turn out the way he plans.

This is a really fun, very visually appealing book intended for younger audiences. It follows Dr. Cornelius van Helsing and his servant as they set out deep into the heart of Transylvania in search of the vampire of legend… but the real terror strikes closer to home. I think as a kid I would have really enjoyed this, and even just yesterday I spent an enjoyable few minutes paging through it, checking out all the neat little foldout maps, graphics and details. I think a book like this would be really fun to write, almost as enjoyable as it is to read.

This is just one of those goofy books with flaps and cool stuff like that, intended for early-teen readers. But it's just the kind of thing I'm a geek for!
The original Van Helsing's brother treks off to try to figure out what's happening to the good doctor, and the usual bat-related badness gets stirred up. An awful plot, abysmal ending, but fun to 'read' anyway. The little companion book is better, but none of the fun stuff inside.

Read with my son.... Very much like Piratology, Wizardology, etc. We loved that there was a plot/mystery unfolding while reading all of these multimedia-ish collections in this scrapbook-like format. There were were some cool interactive things to discover, but really, the story was pretty lame and from an adult's point of view, ridiculous. My son loved it, though!

This book is the lost journal of a vampire hunter, Cornelius Van Helsing, related to the Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's Dracula. In involves references to Johnathan and Mina Harker with a twist. The book's layout is similar to that of the Ology books (dragonology, wizardology, Egyptology, and Pirateology). This book explores the legend and lore of the vampire from which Bram Stoker himself created his novel. It seems like something for a kid but it's imaginative design makes it worth it to get for teens and adults as well. There is also a surprise at the end so read the pages carefully.

Do you have or know a kid who loves vampires? Get them this book. I had this as a kid, and I absolutely loved it. This book went everywhere with me, and when I had it, I was a vampire hunter. It's an excellent gift. Buy it new or in good condition as it has a lot of interactive features in it.

This is one of those books I saw, feel in love with and wished I'd written. If you have vampire loving kids -- even reluctant readers -- they'll eat this book up, exploring the facts behind the fiction, through straight text, sliding puzzles, lift the flaps and other engaging means of revelation. I loved this book. I'd have loved it more, had I been the writer behind it. :) HarperCollins, I'd love a shot at this kind of book, if ever you need a good writer on your team.

The first half is great for vampire lore, but when we add elements of the Dracula story, I think it can be confusing for younger readers who don't know the plot of original novel. (which is a sad thing because kids should know about that!)
