For more than 100 years doctors have been coming to us for advice. Now you can, too.
The Merck Manual has traditionally provided exclusive, up-to-the-minute information to doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Now, with this special Home Edition, the general public can access virtually the same critical data contained in the physician's version -- but in everyday language and a reader-friendly format.
With contributions from nearly 200 internationally respected medical experts, this fully revised edition offers vital, easy-to-understand information about almost every known medical issue, including:

• AIDS • cancer • eating, digestive, and nutrition disorders • heart disease • mental illness • pediatric care -- including a new chapter on early-childhood development • sexual dysfunction • terminal illness • viruses and infections

...and much more.

Very interesting aussi).

The Merck Manual is one of those reference books you really hope you'll never have to seriously use, but you'll be REALLY glad you have it, if you did.
A symptom based medical reference, it's well written in layman's terms to allow anyone the ability to search and review possible diagnosis while also providing treatment.
This was one of those "if you see it, grab it" books. It's popular enough right until you want to buy it, then you can't find it anywhere.
So this is me saying: "if it come across it in your travels, grab it. You never know if you'll need it. "

The plot of this book is very clear: you will suffer from something and possibly die unless you can identify it and get yourself help.
There are subplots, such as a loved one develops a terrifying cough, or an odd purplish stain on her skin, or a child will have headaches that should not be braved at such a young age.
There is always pain that should be explained. Or pain that is inexplicable. In any case, this is a fascinating book that will keep you up nights.

I am surprised that this book is such a page turner. My intention was to read it for a particular class, but I find myself browsing, just picking it up and reading where it opens - like a meditation or oracle.
It is well written and I recommend it heartily.

This is an excellent resourse, even in this internet age. I've been known to lose an hour or two with the darn thing when I was just looking up one thing. It's packed with information that is easy to understand and references that are easy to navigate.

This is an essential part of a well-stocked library. And it is VERY useful if you are concerned that you're dying of a dread disease. You probably aren't.
