Rise

Rate this book
A goddess by design. An officer born with the powers of the mage. Together they must unite if they are to rise from the ashes of a shared betrayal.

When a psychotic High Priestess escapes prison, Caleb is tasked with finding a weapon that can defeat her. But the weapon isn’t a what. It’s a who. Phoenix is a beautiful, mouthy, bundle of raw magic, and nothing at all what he was expecting. The way his magic responds to hers is rare and hints at a deeper meaning. When the terrible truth is revealed – one of gods, war, and treachery – what will Caleb choose? His family, or his fate?

Being raised by a brotherhood of ninja monks had its perks, but Nix can't help but feel like she's missing something. Born with a magic both terrible and beautiful, she has worked hard to master her mysterious powers. When a mage-born officer seeks her out, there is an undeniable and immediate connection between them. Caleb offers her protection as well as answers. But will he help her rise? Or will he be her ultimate downfall?

Please Note: Rise is a full length, standalone paranormal romance.

Montana Ash

Montana is a self-confessed book junkie. Although she loves reading all genres from romance to crime fiction to sci fi, her not-so-guilty pleasure is paranormal romance. Alpha men, just a little bit damaged, and Alpha women who don't seem to know they need looking after, are a favourite combination of hers. Throw in some steamy sex scenes, a touch of humour, and a little violence and she is in heaven!

Her overactive (and overindulged) imagination could only take so much before the many voices wanted out. Thus, Montana's journey into the wonderful world of writing.

She is a scientist by day, having grown up in country New South Wales, Australia. Writing about ancient knights, demons and shapeshifters is such a delicious contradiction to her day job in the laboratory, that she doesn't see the voices stopping anytime soon!

its was good

I’ve had to really think about my review here
There’s good and bad.
So I’ll start with the good.
- the banter is on point
- loved the openness & honesty between the two love interests
- loved remi (everyone needs a remi in their life)
- the fun with the siblings & keely
- the monks are a fresh fun group and great idea

Now the cons:
- plot is weak and pretty much their so the characters could meet and get to know each other.
- they coddled the fmc too much (even though she is the strongest out of them all/ high priestess)
-we never actually get to see her use her great powers properly we are just told that she’s sooo strong.
-the story focuses more on the romance between the love interest.
They are going on dates having fun time while the villain is out their destroying
I just didn’t get it they wasted so much time for them to find and defeat the villain and in the end it was remi’S idea that got them to the end.
When we have a powerful fmc who at one point said she could locate the villain by her powers then next minute she was unable to sense the villain anymore (but ur the powerful one!!!)
All of this was for nothing though because the ending sorts it’s self out in a very un climactic way very disappointing with the battle seen it lacked so much.
80% of this book is romance with a villain somewhere on a rampage and the last 10% was a lacklustre of a villain demise
The idea was there/ I give this a 3⭐️ for remi and the bantering.

Apparently I preordered this in 2022, and completely forget it existed.
In a world where magic is fading, a high priestess has been kept hidden in a monastery for twenty four years, so that when the time arises she’ll be ready to save the world. A group of soldier brothers have been sent by their great grandfather to collect her, because that time is now.
Though the potential is there, this is not RH, and has a MF romance that features heavily in the storyline. No backseat love story here, those two are front and centre.
This is a standalone that could very easily be turned into a series. The big bad does get defeated in this story, but there’s so much more to the world that is barely explored at this point.
It’s got the usual humour and shenanigans I’ve come to expect from Montana Ash books, which keeps things lighthearted despite some themes that could have turned this towards the dark side. It’s just fun. They might be fighting for their lives, but they do it with banter which makes it all the better.

captivating read. Pure brilliance

As a reader of previous Montana Ash books, I couldn’t wait to read Rise.
Montana certainly rose to the task of writing a stand alone. I absolutely loved it. Couldn’t put it down.
Caleb is a soldier. A very high ranking solider with a high volume of powerful magic. Along with his brothers and Keeley (a fantastically hilarious part of the team) they go in search of a weapon to destroy a goddess.
Nix is living with a whole heap of monks. Not just any monks Ninja monks. She has been with them since she was a baby. She is theirs. Nix has goddess powers. Powers that haven’t been seen in such a long time. She is needed to defeat another goddess.
Secrets, lies and betrayal will always come out.
This book has it all. The hilarious moments we expect from Montana and all the action and fast flowing pace that will have you hooked.

Winner!

Rise is a wonderful book. All the characters are appealing and likeable and I certainly hope that they feature in future stories.
The interactions between all the characters, and the banter between them is very engaging.
Montàna Ash never fails to delight and this is an excellent addition to her folio.
