The detail that completely flipped my perspective in Rajasthan: India's Enchanted Land was how many "dramatic" moments in a famous election were basically decided by one tired organizer with a phone list and a bad cold. Singh, Raghubir leaned on campaign memos, handwritten schedules, and a pile of oral interviews, and you can feel it in the little stuff, like staffers running on gas station coffee and spite. The pacing dragged a bit in the chapters on polling data, which got numbers-heavy fast. Solid pick if you like politics told from the folding-chair level instead of the podium.
