Dark Fall
Max wakes up in a realm not his own, but Darke is there to protect him in any way he can, even if it means taking the human to bed all night long.
A marine unit is on assignment to clear terrorists from caves in Afghanistan. An explosion later, Max Whitfield is being sold as a slave in the daemon realm of Thorash. He doesn't know where he is, but one thing he does know, he is no one's slave. When a fight breaks out, three men from Max's unit escape, but he is stung by toxic venom that will kill him as it brings excruciating pain.
Darke, a Carthus daemon, is part of Thorash law enforcement. His current assignment is to stop the illegal import of humans to be sold as slaves. Instead of meeting his contact, he rescues Max from certain death and takes him back to his home. The only thing that will save the human is hot sex all night long.
When two warriors, who have nothing in common, find themselves thrown together, they will do what they must to complete the assignment. Even if it means giving each other up forever.

I LOVED this book. Short, very sexy, lots of feelings, and I just loved it. Perfect if you want a quick, very satisfying read, that will make you smile afterwards. This is my first book by the Author, but definitely not the last.

I really liked this story about Max (a Marine) and Darke (a mysterious Carthus daemon) who find their lives turned upside down when an illegal interdimensional portal rips Max away from the life he knows and transports him to Thorash. Max is being sold as a slave and gets stung by toxic venom when he tries to protect another being. Darke is a law enforcement officer on assignment to stop the illegal import of slaves and knows Max will die unless he has sex all night long.
The description of the two warriors coming to terms with an inexplicable attraction that remains even after the effects of the venom are gone was interesting. Add to this the perceived need for both to sarifice themselves for each other and the story really takes off. Max has to cope with his first-time attraction to a man and Darke knows he has found his mate - but doesn't want to force him to stay in Thorash. The emotional turmoil that follows for both had me captivated.

I was along for the ride on this one. The writing is very good. I really like how she tells a story. I do admit that with the description given of the Darke, the alien main character, I sort of pictured him a little like the Dark Elves that Jet Mykles draws.
However, there is a glaring plot hole that distracted me completely as soon as they started talking about destroying the portal.
Max is a US Marine who was captured with three of his fellow Marines. Not only that but he was their senior in command. Once they escape and are separated he fails to continue to try to find them to determine their fate. He is willing to blow up the portal (the only way home) without any idea if they are alive, enslaved, or dead. I am afraid that would not be how a US Marine would approach the problem.
Unfortunately that error was difficult for me to get past to concentrate on the rest of the book.

This is a little know author who is very, very good. I wish more people knew about her! Dark Fall is a short novella about a Marine who gets captured and pulled into another dimension where he is to be sold as a slave. The alien who he ends up with (no spoilers on how he gets there!) has hair that moves and can tell him things as well as function as a weapon, a tail, and a seven foot presence. Hubba hubba. Two HOT beings - that size and that sexy? I loved that Max wants to be dominated - and his explanation (that he is always the one in charge since he sleeps with women) about wanted to be "taken" (not without approval) by someone who is rougher with him was hot. This is short - so it is a wham, bam, thank you dude sort of thing. While I wanted more I chose to just enjoy this as a short, sexy, hot romp! (P.S. so you KNOW if Darke (the alien) can control that hair..well you can only guess what he can do with it!)

The story about brave marine who gets fucked by an alien which makes him act like a teenage girl, forget about his team and choose happily ever after. Way to go! Yay, marines! Bonus points are for fresh sci-fi settings, new world, all of that. Okay plot twist with be fucked or die. However, after one night our mighty marine fells in love and starts to reflect all the time. “Does he like me? I kinda liked him? Was it the poison? Was it me? What does he think about me?”- that kinda stuff. Ugh. Well hello cutie pie, it’s amazing you discovered new things about yourself, what about your team? He’s just “I hope they are okay”. You are not a team leader. You are a teenage girl. Oh. That’s actually an insult to teenage girls. And then they destroyed the only way to get back home because he found home with his new alien boyfriend. What. About. Your. Team. Did you make them stuck on that planet as well?

This one is sizzling hot, when I saw the cover and found out this is gonna be an M-M story, I wasn't really excited because duh, I'm a girl and I love to place myself in the heroine's shoes and there's no heroine here so what do I do? Nothing but watch. But of course, you have to admit that watching two men fucking is definitely hot. It's actually kind of a turn on. So what happened here was definitely fun and the ending was very expected, I knew someone was going to stay and that they will fell in love with each other and that Darke will risk himself. I just didn't know if Darke was going to earth or both of them are staying in the weird world.

Why does Gwendolyn Cease keep doing this? I read her wonderful too short stories and am just left craving more. This one had a good plot and very lovable characters. Darke with his big, tough exterior and his willingness to sacrifice himself so his mate could return to his homeworld and Max who was just as strong in his own right, and so vulnerable to the feelings Darke awakened in him, were perfect for each other. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for the day I finally get a full length story from this author. I know it'll be worth it.

Cute little inter-dimensional book. Marine and friends get transported to another dimension during a fire fight. While being 'sold' they try to escape but Max gets bitten by a local bug that causes inescapable arousal without penetration. Darke instantly sees a worthy male and wants to save him.
I wish this had actually been longer! More story to it and find out what happened to the fellow humans who were also brought over.

3.5 stars. My first Ms. Cease book and I enjoyed this short and action packed story. Lots of alien sex and a very nice relationship between a captured marine and a very large alien with hair he can use as appendages. Wouldn't know that by the cover though - too bad, I'd have like to have seen this hunky, sweet alien.
