The Spring Rabbit: An Easter tale

Rate this book
At the end of winter, a girl named Spring awakes from her slumber in the snow.

She travels through the forest and finds a little bird that has fallen from a tree.

The bird is so cold and weak that Spring can hardly hear its heartbeat, so she turns it into a rabbit with thick, soft fur so it will be warm.

To show their gratitude, birds gather eggs which Rabbit collects in a beautiful basket. Spring tells Rabbit to give them to the children so that they will know Spring is here.

This beautiful tale shows young children how the Easter Bunny came to be.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Spring Rabbit: An Easter tale is a beautiful and unique story about how the Easter Bunny came to be. This will capture the hearts and minds of the children reading it, and the bright, childlike drawn illustrations will delight as they read this story. I loved the concept of this story and found it endearing. This is a great little story for the excitement and preperation of Easter and the start of spring.

An origin story for the Easter Bunny – created by Spring, and eventually tasked by her with presenting birds' eggs to the children of the town to let them know winter had gone. It just didn't quite gel with me – the artwork, switching too often from full-page to cameo-styled smaller frames, didn't appeal much, and the story felt somewhat lacking, in almost unknowable ways. One way in fact I've copied in this write-up – Spring is a character, and a capitalised entity, yet winter is lower case and as a result leaves a tiny niggle. Petty, I know, but it's small things like this that collectively left me feeling three stars was about right.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children’s for the ARC of this.

We loved the A “blank” of stories collections by this author, so I was excited to read this. I really want to introduce my kids to folktales and myths beyond the Christian myths they are currently exposed to by family. This was an adorable origin story to the Easter bunny, and I loved how colorful the illustrations were. The illustrations themselves weren’t my favorite, but my 5 year old had no complaints and enjoyed the story.

This terrible collection of artwork is met with an even worse story about the origins of the Easter bunny. And by the way, this Easter story is the author's creation. It has nothing to do with the (mostly unknown) origins of the Easter bunny tradition. Not impressed. This is worse than traditional folk lore. This is just stupid. No one should ever have to read this book.

After a long, hard winter, Spring began to awaken. With the snow melting, the grass began to grow and everything around her came to life and joy.

However, not everyone was recovering from the winter. Spring found a little bird shivering with cold and so weak she colud barely feel its heart.

So begins this children's story about the rabbit and Easter eggs with the arrival of Spring which is one of the most beautiful traditions enjoyed by children around the world in different ways.

The Spring Rabbit is a children's book with very bright and cheerful colors with which children will be able to feel identified because the drawings seem to be made by small children and are cheerful and fun.

This book tells children about the origins of a beautiful and fun tradition. But it also tells them about the important changes that come with the arrival of a new season. In this case the resurgence and renewal of life, the longer and lighter days, the joy and the opportunity to play outdoors again, surrounded by nature.

What I liked the most is the way it is written, which preserves the essence of a classic tale but brought to the present day. In addition, it is told in a way that has nothing to do with any religion or creed, but rather a natural cycle of life.

A very nice book and ideal for gift giving at this time of the year.

Wow, this is one of the most amazing children's books that I have ever read. It has such a beautiful, inspirational and heartwarming story, and the illustrations are just amazing and superb. My daughter and I both really loved the book, and we were amazed by its beauty.

The story starts with a girl called Spring, who wakes up from her hibernation in the snow. As she goes through the forest, spreading her light, she finds a little bird, who is weak and cold. She turns it into a rabbit to heat it up and help it, and the rabbit responds to this by bounding around happily. Little birds give their eggs to the rabbit, who puts them in a basket to give to Spring. She loves them, but she is so busy bringing spring to all of the land, the grass and the flowers, that she cannot keep them. So she tells rabbit to hide them with the children of the land. The children awake to find the beautiful eggs, and this delights them, as they know now that it is springtime. They look outside to marvel in the beauty which surrounds them, and they celebrate in the best way possible.

I highly recommend this wonderful, magical book. It would make the perfect gift for any child at this time of the year.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much to Quarto/Frances Lincoln children’s and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

Aww this was so sweet, as spring awakens getting ready to thaw the winter she heals a bird turning it to a bunny to be warm and safe. The bunny then wants to thank her for her help and with his bird friends finds a way.

This really was such a cute picture book, it’s a great way to teach a child about the spring weather and shares a different story of Easter which I think young kids would really enjoy. The illustrations were very bright and colourful.

It was a really sweet read and it was filled with joy, happiness and brightness which is always such a great thing to find in a children’s picture book.

I enjoyed reading this Easter Bunny origin story with my children. I has the vibes of a classic tale, makes for a nice read aloud, and the illustrations from Christopher Corr are charming and wonderful. There is a nice balance of full page illustrations and then pages with a few vignettes tied in with text. I love the personification of Spring and the generosity of the animals. The ending is a nice ode to the excitement of springtime. Overall this is a nice spring tale and one that I think could be enjoyed by children who do not even celebrate Easter.

***Note: I was given a review copy of this book via Quarto Kids. Opinions are my own.

This beautifully illustrated picture book will be of interest to those young children who celebrate Easter. It tells a tale about how the practice of leaving Easter eggs came about.

In this story, Spring is brought to life as a woman. She brings spring every where that she goes. This leads the illustrations in this book to become increasingly colorful.

Watch as she rescues a bird and find out what happens next. It will lead to the origin of the Easter Egg.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Holy gorgeousness! Stunning, captivating, timely; I love this book and I would love to add this to our springtime story collection, it truly is beautiful. If you are looking for a non-religious book for spring or a tale of the Easter bunny that doesn't speak from a Christian standpoint, I would say this is a great option. The quirky, colorful illustrations held my attention from the first page. Just lovely!

The story of Spring, how she gives life back to earth and the story of spring rabbit who brought colorful eggs. A nice tale, even though I don't know if this was the real spring tale. But it is heartwarming, and at least kids will have a story to tell about spring. A nice interpretation of the story and colorful drawings.

This book was awful. I read this to my 7 year old and it did t make much sense. The story had no flow. The story sounded like I was drunk trying to tell an Easter Spring story. The artwork was hurting my eyes it was so bad.

Nice folk tale about the coming of spring and the origin of giving eggs. Couldn't get past the primitive nature of the art work
