Effie is an ant with a very loud voice. The other insects avoid her until an oblivious herd of elephant threatens them all. Then Effie's uniqueness saves the day.
It could have been so much more. Kinda reminded me a of _Horton Hears a Who_, or a misfit who finds his place (like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer), but the moral is too subtle and likely lost without adult conversation.
Every time I read a book that Barbara Reid is involved in, I am amazed at her artistic skill. It is not surprising she has won almost every award for illustrators of Children's books. This is the story of Effie, a small ant with a very large VOICE. She scares all the other bugs she tries to befriend. Then one day she saves the other bugs and the rest of the ants from her colony. It is another great story for children of all ages.
Effie was a tiny ant just like numerous other ants - except for one thing. Effie had a very loud voice, so loud that no one wanted to be near her or to listen to her. One day it was her very loud voice that was greatly needed. Wonderful Plasticine illustrations.
this book is about a ant who has a really loud voice and nobody wants to be her friend and talk to her untill she meets a elephant one day. Thought is was o.k., not one of my favorites.
I have used this book over and over again since it first came out. (1994) Was thinking of it when reading another book today and realized that this would still be a favorite.
I use this wonderful book to teach students about the meaning of font in text. It has been an amazing tool for me to use with my students. They thoroughly enjoy the story.
