This stunning book is the perfect introduction to meditation and why it is so beneficial and effective in the morning. Studies have shown that people who develop a morning meditation practice find it easier to stay focused and energized through the day, are less likely to reach for unhealthy snacks and are more adept at warding off stress and anxiety. Included in the book are tips on how to develop a practice, essential oils to energise you in the morning, simple breathwork, stretches and focus journaling as well as good morning tea blends. The meditations included are designed to encourage clarity and energy for the day ahead, with weekend morning meditations to help let go of the week and explore bigger questions. Mantras are used to help bring awareness to particular words and phrases to set you off on a positive path for the day ahead, intention setting and guided visualisations for boosting energy, finding focus and summoning creativity.Morning meditations *Awakening *Just for today *Radiant light *Path to the heart *Soaring above*Seeds of intentions *Finding the flow?*Through the eye of the telescope
Write down your dreams See the sky before a screen. Take a few deep breaths. Be thankful. Set an intention for the day ahead. Morning ritual. Tea ceremony - no distractions Meditate. Focus on the breath. If at any time your mind gets busy or you drift off, simply come back to your breath. That’s it, you’re meditating! Given the power of words and language, have you ever considered what you say to yourself? Be kind. Positive affirmations. Positive thinking - power of thoughts. Set intentions. Nowhere to go, nowhere to be, other than in this moment, right here, right now. Rinse mouth, brush teeth, scrape tongue
This book wasn't my favorite. The meditations were interesting; some of them I skipped because I didn't like them, but I did 90% of all the meditations in this book.
The illustrations are beautiful, and the way I did each meditation practice was by recording my voice and listening to it. So I definitely got practice in with my meditation voice.
There was one meditation that annoyed me because it perpetuates heteronormativity. On page 132 in a meditation called, Sands of Time it says:
"Begin to visualize your family line, your parents, starting first with your mother and then your father. As you see your parents, you ask your spirit guide, "What wisdom do my parents have for me?" You receive the wisdom with gratitude." - Page 132
Whether you agree or disagree with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, there are same-sex marriages out there (that's a fact, whether you like it or not) and people who don't fit into a box (under the Non-Binary Umbrella) and are married. So by assume that everyone reading this book has a mother and father is perpetuating heteronormativity. Why couldn't you just leave it at "parents" instead of going into starting with your mother first and then father? Because now you're not making these meditations inclusive for others, and that annoys me. Shouldn't meditation be for everyone? As someone who leads meditations, the author, Danielle North, should be more mindful of their language.
This one was recommended to me, since I'm a fan of some mindfulness and meditation techniques. I was not expecting these meditations, although they're useful it's not really my style. Some of them are pretty interesting and the non-meditation parts too. And yeah, it's great to put our phones away for a while. I think I have to let this book sink in...with time...maybe I'll come back to it and actually practise them (not just with my mind's eye). However, I loved the artwork, it was amazing and I hope this book remind us of how much we should take care of ourselves. Anyway, I have to say that I enjoyed the encounter with the whale and the fox hehe
This is not my preferred meditation style, but I was able to pull from some of them to adapt/create my own versions. I was excited for section in the back dedicated to seasons, but felt like the meditations were missing some fundamental pieces that connect internal and external worlds. Many of them are lovely visuals, but lack direction to connect to body/emotions.
A short and lovely book, helping to guide and teach different meditation techniques and breathing exercises to calm the mind and find peace in a chaotic world.
