It’s bedtime, but sleep will not come to Tabitha. The bed is cozy. The room is dark and quiet. Her favourite things surround her. She should be able to go to sleep, but something is missing. What can it be?As she lies waiting, the animals call to her. Will the whale lull her to sleep? Can the eagle carry her to dreamland? Or the horse? The frog? The rabbit? Nothing seems to work. And then sleep comes, as it often does, from an unexpected place.Recommended reading 4-8
A cute book where Tabitha’s stuffies try to help her fall asleep. Spoiler: her cat does the trick. This book won’t change your week, but it might help one night.
Moral: Bedtime is better with a real pet.
Length: There’s some fun little rhyme schemes in here that keep the story moving.
Favorite Line: “‘Come muddily rest; the sludge is the best,’ croaked the frogs.”
Overall Impression: Mavis’s Dog is not the type to lay around or cuddle, so we’ll have to find more creative ways to get her to sleep; the pet ain’t it. However, the book is a fun nighttime read and we’re all glad that Tabitha falls asleep. Mavis’s stuffies will do their best tonight.
