"Sex and the City: Kiss and Tell" the official companion book, celebrates the show with behind-the-scenes stories on all six seasons and original interview with each of the primary actors. The book contains interviews with the main characters; the four actresses, their leading men as well as Stanford, Anthony and Bunny among others. The interviews with the main/recurring characters (male and female) are good, although if the women could get bios, why couldn't the men? I'm sure SATC fans are also interested in that.
There is a double page spread of the guys (and the few women) who were romantic prospects for each of the leading ladies, so I guess that one's a bonus of sorts.
Reason to snap up this book? There are lots and lots of photos of outfits worn by the four ladies. This is your chance to check out the fashion details! Plus main members of the production team also get their say, and there are several action shots of the production process. Sohn covers all aspects of the show by including sections about the writers, production, post-production, making the sets, etc.
I love the character quotes: "I'm missing the bride gene. I should be put in a test tube and studied." ~ Carrie Bradshaw
"I've been dating since I was fifteen. I'm exhausted. Where is he?" ~ Charlotte York
And the numerous quandaries that Carrie faces: "What if Prince Charming had never showed up? Would Snow White have slept in that glass coffin forever? Or would she have eventually wojen uppit out the the apple, gotten a job and a baby from her local neighborhood sperm bank? I couldn't help but wonder: inside every confident, driven signle woman, is there a delicate, fragile princess just waiting to be saved?"
"Soul mate. Two little words. One big concept. A belief that someone, somewhere, is holding the key to your heart and to your dream house. All you have to do is to find them. So where is this person? And if you love someone and it didn't work out, does that mean they weren't your soul mate?"
Included is a map of the restaurants and other places were many of the on-location episodes were filmed. She mentions that you can use it to take a walking tour of NYC to follow in the girls' footsteps, but while general locations of places are pointed out, there are no addresses! I thought this was the "updated" book so I don't understand why such pertinent information was excluded. There are no addresses except for the girls' apartments--which are not real places anyway! Sohn couldn't take the time to give addresses for the real places for those of us who aren't NYC dwellers?
So why only a four stars rating? Simply because there are no details about part two of season six. If Sohn had waited until the end of the entire series, this book would have been a more complete wrap-up. The last 8 episodes of Season 6 were barely mentioned. It's like she didn't watch or care about these final shows and just slapped a couple of lines at the end of the book to finalize it.
Additionally, Sohn doesn't appear to know the material as well as she should, and she leaves out lots of good information that should have been included. Her glib descriptions of the characters (men and women) make them seem more simple and uncomplicated than they were. Although she gives lip service to the idea that the characters changed and strengthened, she doesn't seem to understand what that means. It actually feels like real fans know so much more about this show than the writer herself. If you're going to directly quote a show, get it right. I like the pictures, and the overviews of the episodes, but really, at least watch the show before you try to review it.
In the end, I'm still keeping this one & don't really regret buying it (4 years or so ago)--all for the love of a show and the characters behind it. If you're a die-hard fan, then by all means, just relish the thought of burying yourself in scene stills and episode synopses plus the tons of photos in this book. The book is like re-living the whole experience!

I read this in a matter of hours! I am huge Sex and the City fan so this book (filled with tons of photos from the show, information about the fashion and places featured on the show, and cast interviews) is perfect.
The crocodile hot pink cover is nice too! It is an odd shape — it’s sort of close to the size of a school yearbook so it will be a bit odd on my shelves, but I’m still glad I own it.
My only real criticism of this book is that it doesn’t cover anything beyond season 4. I wish it would have been written at the end of the series because I would have loved for it to have included information about the final two seasons. That said, it’s a must read for fans of SATC.
** I read Sex and the City and Us (SATCAU) first (even though it was published in 2018 many years after this book was published and that book includes several quotes that were first published in this book.) If you read both, there will be some overlap. However, this book has tons of pictures not included in the SATCAU book. I think it’s worth reading both. **
My love to Sex and the City started with the TV series, but only couple of weeks ago i realized that there is actually a book that i can read. same as the movie, the book was amazing. Carrie and the girls are new yorkers in 100%. what is funny that my mom says that I am becoming one of the. the only thing i didn't really like about the book is that the narration is a little bit different. as everybody knows Carrie is a narrator of the TV series, while in the book she is just a friend of the narrator, and she is not even the journalist. but on the other hand some of the characters, and even lines are exactly like in the movie. it's just so good to be able to one again emerge in the life of the new yorkers who's lifes seem to be so similar to mine even though they are fictional and much older than i am.
This was an AWESSOME book for someone who loves this show. I have read it multiple times. It is so cool to look at each episode, all the boyfriends, outfits and places they filmed. I love it!!
This is a great book for anyone who really enjoyed the show. I am always curious about behind-the-scenes, what made the writers & directors pick specific lines, elements, etc, wha they were trying to convey, and this book shed some light on that.
This is a must-have book for any fan of the show. Loved the pictures, trivia and insider interviews with both cast and crew. It made me fall in love with the show all over again. The downside? Barely any mention about the end of season 6 and Carrie's move to Paris etc.! How did that get missed?
I know I am biased because I've watched the show like 10 times but I've enjoyed every minute of the book. Recommended for true fans of Sex and the City.
As a devoted “Sex and the City” fan, I am surprised that I hadn’t discovered this book sooner. This book covers all six seasons of the show which showed on HBO from June 6, 1998- February 22, 2004.
I love the layout of the book in that it discusses the characters, highlights from each season as well as personal photos from each actress. I really enjoyed this book as well as the insight provided by the show’s creator and reading this book has motivated me to rewatch the show again with new perspective. This book is a perfect gift for a “Sex and the City” fan
A well rounded review of Sex and the City, with interviews with the actors, writers/producers, and a great episode recap guide. I enjoyed hearing about the writers' experiences that inspired episodes (Side note: I always see Michael Patrick King and Darren Star's names only for Sex and the City, but never Jenny Bicks' and Cindy Chupack's. We need to correct that), and appreciated all of the pictures included.
Loses a star for not talking about the last 8 episodes, as well as slightly annoying font choices sometimes.
This was a lot of fun to read and get the behind the scenes details on how the show was made and what went into certain decisions. I was disappointed that it only went through season 4, although when I read the reviews I gather that when the show ended it was re-released with the last two seasons - I think my library just didn't get the updated edition. It'd be nice to read that sometime; part of me wonders why they did it at all before the show ended.
Cute book with some interesting behind them scenes facts, beautiful photos and such but if you’re going to put a quiz at the end, make sure you’re putting the correct answers AND questions. Example: In season 5, when Carrie goes to SF on her book tour, Mr. Winkle the dog doesn’t open for her, she opens for him. It makes you wonder if the other trivia is true or not, you know?
This is the kind of book you skim through and don't read in one go, which is exactly what I did and I don't regret it. I'll admit that I didn't read everything because the episode descriptions didn't interest me much, but learning more about the actors/characters was very enjoyable. It's not for nothing that this is one of my favorite series.
This episode breakdown was exactly what I expected it to be. Of course, I wish there was more about the clothes; however, I did enjoy the interviews and snippets about how ideas for the show were implemented.
I loved this book. I enjoyed all the photos. They showcased all their iconic bedrooms. They put so many famous lines and scenes in here. Such a great trip down memory lane.
