A trafficked girl. A monster in the dark. A tortured soul. A woman's might. A desperate struggle against the oldest sin in the history of mankind!
""I changed that day. The old Vijaya died, in its place an ugly creature reared its head which cleaned away every trace of the bright eyed young girl with a hope for a better future even when she was branded as a Molki. What my abduction couldn't do to me, what those scars adorning every inch of my body couldn't do to me, Shivil Kaushik's retribution did it to me. I became his slave, but he became mine too. Even if he didn't realize it until it was too late.""
Vijaya is kidnapped from her village along with many others to be sold as a Molki Bride, a practice prevailing in some parts of the country where women are scarce. She manages to escape her kidnappers and ends up with her very reluctant savior. Just when she thinks she is safe, she is caught in the middle of violent politics of the region, the sordid drama of the dueling families and desperate attempts of power grab by factions who don't stop at anything to achieve their goals.
A deeply moving journey of strength, resilience, and unexpected connection.
This story took me on such an emotional ride! It sheds light on social injustices that still linger in certain communities and portrays the harsh realities faced by women caught in those systems, all through the eyes of a brave protagonist, Vijaya.
Vijaya’s journey is heartbreaking yet inspiring. Life tests her in unimaginable ways, but she never loses her spirit. When fate brings Shivil Kaushik into her path, a man burdened by his own past and complexities, their worlds collide in ways neither could have foreseen.
Their bond unfolds slowly, through moments of trust, conflict, and healing. I loved watching Vijaya rediscover her courage and purpose, while Shivil battles the shadows of his own history. Together, they show how even the most broken souls can find light in each other.
The writing is raw and immersive, the emotions intense, and the cliffhanger ending left me yearning for the next chapter. A must-read for anyone who enjoys heartfelt stories about perseverance, transformation, and love born from chaos. ❤️
You know how sometimes fate throws you out in the open in the most brutal way, leaving you to only trust your own self. Then unexpectedly it also sends you a mirror, often in form of other people- just to explore your own reflection through them- that's how The molki bride fixes two contrasting people- world's apart, into a single frame.
The story follows Vijiya- A trafficked girl in Kaushalpuri village, She's been sold by her father As molki paro- slave women used for womb and labour- after the death of her mother. The villages has a long history of this grotesque practice- where poor families sell their daughters to rich people. They are treated as objects, nothing more than mere flesh. Vijiya, having promised her dying mother, refuses to be sold, only to be broken down and tortured again and again. An opportunity comes and she flees from her heartless captures- Ending up unconscious on a road of Dark Forest.
On the other part of the world- Shivil kaushik refuses to come back to his homeland. Being the heir of Kaushik family, The generational former zamindars of Kaushalpuri, Patriarchy and Pride runs not only in the family, but in blood; bad blood and history. His mother sent him out to study when he was 19, Just to get him out of the bad blood and Rivalry with Thakurs. Now shivil has no feelings whatsoever for his past relations, Even after his mother pleads him to come back to her after the death of his father. An incident happens and shivil has to run back to India and his village. Fate happens in the most unexpected places And shivil finds vijiya in her tortured state. He takes her with him. Vijiya does not trust shivil, yet both have a very dark and deep attraction to each other, where shivil keeps her, not enabling her to run away. Becoming Another capture for vijiya which she both hates and craves. Whats between them has no name- except the dark allure of each other's arms. Will the savior turns out to be her salvation or destruction? Is it her hope or just another hell she's let herself caged in?
I cannot stop thinking about this one. It's been a while since I came across such storyline and characters and I literally- quite literally devoured this one. This read isn't just a sweet love story- no, it's more than that. It has raised questions, situations of Village satire and it's women, the patriarchy and it's evil as well as presenting psychological strain and conflict when you have nothing to rely on. It's Metamorphically very deep- Where we see vijiya's struggle and survival against a system that belittles and objectifies women. Her feelings and trauma are haunting, dark and tragically real which reaps confusion and hungry for a little respect and affection. Vijiya's character is realistic. A survivor still trying to survive, Knowing nothing and trusting nothing anymore. Yet she secretly craves protection and affection shivil shows her, making her more attached to the man she knows is keeping her as just amusement.
On the other hand, Shivil's character isn't better either. He's no superhero or prince Charming here to save vijiya. He's just a man who only works for his own favor and benefit. He's cunning, sly and morally grey. His morals only defined by what he wants and can get.Throughout the story, I was on my toes just like vijiya- at one side- his possesiveness and desire for vijiya borders on cruelty- where he sees vijiya only as his possession and is hell bent on being in control. Then on the other side, There's this vulnerability and uncanny Submission, which he doesn't realise yet, He eventually ends up confusing both himself and viji with their dynamic. I am excited to see more character development in the next part tbh.
Both of them have a very unconventional yet unconditional bond- where both are there yet neither is aware. That added more angst in the whole story. There's some mysteries and a very big plot I sniff coming in the next part- and the ending! It ends on a cliffhanger and I am literally dying for the next part 😭🤣🤚. Please I NEED IT ASAP. Writing is real good with multiple person pov, most of it including only Vijiya and shivil. Plot is solid and well written, complexities of social pressure and patriarchy is portrayed well. Characters like binita masi, savitri, Damyanti adds another layer of mystery. Andrew's relationship with Shivil adds humor to the tension.
Overall, it's masterful blend of romance, social evils, women's resilience and characters that feels real and human. If you love a dark romance with a psychological depth and a storyline that'll get you hooked, then this is a MUST read for you! Gosh, I can't recover from this one 😂
When I first saw the title The Molki Bride, I instantly felt curious and emotional. 💭 I wanted to understand what the story was about and after reading it, I can say this is one of the best fiction books I’ve ever read. This story touched me in ways few books ever have.
The novel begins with a glimpse into the life of a successful businessman rich, powerful, and respected, yet deeply restless inside. 💼 He has everything money can buy but still feels empty, disconnected from his past and from love. The writing made me see how even success can become a prison when the heart is lonely.
Then the story takes a heartbreaking turn 💔 shifting to the world of Vijaya, a woman sold by her father and trapped in a cruel system where women are treated as objects. Her pain felt real. I could almost feel her fear, her exhaustion, her silent endurance. Each word cut deep, especially when she spoke about being “molki” a bride who is bought, not chosen.
What amazed me most was the contrast between these two worlds one built with money, another built with pain. Yet both characters are prisoners of their circumstances one emotionally, the other physically. Through Vijaya’s voice, I saw the strength of women who survive even when everything is taken from them. 🌿
This book made me realize how our society is still stuck in orthodoxy 🕰️. Women are still fighting for the most basic rights respect, choice, and dignity. The writing is raw, powerful, and hauntingly beautiful. It doesn’t just tell a story it exposes the truth.
After finishing The Molki Bride, I truly came to understand Vijaya. Her courage, her pain, and her quiet hope will stay with me forever. ✨ This book is not just fiction it’s a mirror reflecting how much we still need to change. It reminds me that progress means nothing if women continue to live in chains, whether visible or invisible. 💔
I was so excited to start The Molki Bride, and it did not disappoint! This book is a dark romance, which covers a very important topic: the human trafficking.
The story is centered on a girl named Vijaya. Her own father sold her, and now she is a "molki," which means a sold bride. Then there is Shivil, a man who has been living outside of India and comes back after almost a decade. He is running away from his own past, and when his path crosses with Vijaya's, it changes everything for both of them.
Seriously, I was totally hooked from the very beginning. The writing pulled me right in. The pacing was so good—it was fast enough to keep you turning pages but slow enough that you really understood what the characters were going through. This is definitely one of those stories that will make you read a book in a single sitting. Once I started, I just couldn't put it down!
This book will make you question about the condition of women in our country. In many parts, girls are still considered as a liability, a curse, they suffer a lot.
I loved watching Vijaya's character development. She is a girl who had every reason to give up, but she never does. She is incredibly strong, and you can see how much she grows throughout the entire story. She is a true fighter.
What really stood out to me was the powerful way the book shows how one woman can help other women. Seeing them support each other through their struggles was just too good. I really, really liked that part of the book. And for the romance fans: the relationship between Shivil and Vijaya is also very well balanced. It develops naturally and provides a nice, sweet contrast to the heavier parts of the plot.
It ended on a cliffhanger and now I wanted to know more about it.
-Tropes: Forced marriage/trafficking, tortured hero, redemption arc, heroine with trauma, forbidden love
-Vibe: Intense, emotionally charged, sometimes raw & unforgiving: a story that pulses with both danger & hope
In The Molki Bride, the FMC (Vijaya) is drawn into the grim world of “molki” brides: women who are bought, sold, trafficked into marriage. The narrative navigates her struggle for identity, voice & dignity in an environment of control, abuse & societal prejudice. The MMC, Shiv (or Shivil / the male lead), carries his own burdens of guilt, anger & secrets. Their paths collide in unexpected ways, testing bonds, trust & what love can survive.
The book doesn’t just dramatize romance, it shows the costs of trafficking, stigma, internal scars & the fight to assert self in a world built to break you. The book ends on a cliffhanger; it’s part 1 of a two-part series.
What Worked
• Social relevance-The “molki” bride issue is underrepresented in fiction; the book brings light to a practice that carries deep caste, gender & economic injustice.
• Intensity & stakes-Because the themes are heavy (trafficking, power imbalance, trauma), there is a raw edge that keeps you invested; you’re never sure how far things will go.
What Didn’t Always Work
-Pacing & consistency -Emotional heaviness overload -Romance vs realism tension
The Molki Bride is a brave, emotionally charged read. It doesn’t shy from darkness; it doesn’t sugarcoat suffering. For readers who favor romance with depth, realism, social commentary & tension, this is a compelling pick. But for those who prefer lighter romance or faster pacing, this may feel heavy or demanding at times.
I would first like to state that this was received as an arc read.
The Molki Bride is a harrowing dark romance set in India that focuses on the devastating effects of human trafficking. This is a very morally grey read with strong depictions and torturous endeavours.
The plot follows a young woman named Vijaya, who is suddenly assaulted and kidnapped on a train in her hometown and thrust into the world of human trafficking. When she makes crucial decisions she ends up in the path of the main male character Shivil.
The characters are interesting as Shivil is morally black, is swift and fierce while also unyielding and impatient. This creates a dynamic with Vijaya who is scared but bold, opinionated but traumatized. This dynamic is volatile but different from other reads I've read.
The pacing for me was really hard. This wasn't necessarily a book that worked for me due to the character development and the pacing. I felt that once we got to a spot where we were progressing the characters actions would cause a recession and it became confusing on if the characters actually like each other in any sort of fashion. This left me confused as a reader and ultimately unsatisfied.
My conclusion is that this book didn't connect with me in a way that I wish it would have. I believe the premise is there but I don't think it got all the way there for me. I do think that the message that it sounds about human trafficking and the trauma that people go through every day. All around the world is horrifying. This book brings to light the horrors That hide in the shadows of our world and brings awareness to such a terrible trade.

“One look. Just one look in the dark in the midst of a jungle, and you had me.”
The Molki Bride is a hauntingly beautiful and deeply emotional novel that sheds light on the often overlooked Molki custom, where brides are bought and sold. Lavanya takes the reader on the journey of a young woman who is thrust into this harsh reality, capturing her pain, fear, and the struggle to hold on to her dignity in a society that often chooses to remain silent.
What makes this book stand out is its raw portrayal of resilience. It doesn’t just narrate suffering—it celebrates the courage, defiance, and inner strength of women who navigate systems designed to suppress them. The protagonist’s journey from vulnerability to empowerment is both heartbreaking and inspiring, leaving a lingering impact on anyone who reads her story.
The writing style balances intensity with clarity. Lavanya masterfully blends emotional depth with storytelling, making you feel every moment of despair, hope, and eventual triumph. While some subplots and secondary characters could have been explored more, and certain resolutions feel a bit sudden, the overall narrative is powerful, thought-provoking, and unforgettable.
This book is perfect for readers who are passionate about women’s rights, social justice, and stories that give voice to the silenced. It’s a book that makes you pause, reflect, and empathize, long after the last page is turned.
Key Takeaways:
Explores themes of oppression, resilience, identity, and empowerment
Highlights the societal complicity that sustains harmful traditions
A moving reminder of the power of courage and self-worth
“The Molki Bride” is more than a story—it’s a mirror to society, a tribute to survival, and a call to recognize the strength in every silenced voice
From the very first page, I was completely pulled into Vijaya’s world — and my heart shattered for her. She waits her whole life for freedom, only for it to be ripped away in the cruelest way possible. The moment she’s sold by her own father was absolutely gut-wrenching. You can feel her pain, her fear, and the betrayal that changes everything. The Molki Bride isn’t your usual romance. It’s dark, emotional, and brutally honest about the realities many women still face. It dives deep into human trafficking, gender injustice, and the suffocating customs that treat women as property. Yet, through all that pain, it also shows survival, resilience, and a love that’s both forbidden and strangely healing. Then comes Shivil — a man with his own shadows. He saves Vijaya, but in a way, he also traps her again. Their connection is intense and complicated — full of tension, fear, attraction, and something that feels almost like fate. You don’t know whether to hate him or love him, but you can’t stop thinking about him. The writing is raw and deeply emotional. Every scene feels real — the kind of story that makes your chest ache. I admired how Lavanya didn’t shy away from heavy topics yet wrote them with such care and sensitivity. And that cliffhanger! I’m still not over it. I need to know what happens to Shivil and Vijaya next — their story feels far from finished. If you love dark, emotional romances that break you apart and still make you believe in love again, The Molki Bride is a must-read. It’s painful, passionate, and unforgettable.
"The Molki Bride" is a story that grabs you and doesn't let go. It tells the difficult but important story of Vijaya, a young woman betrayed by her own family and sold into a life of oppression as a "molki" – a bought bride. Her struggle for survival and her fight to hold onto her spirit in the face of unimaginable cruelty is both heartbreaking and powerful.
The book balances this darkness with the introduction of Shivil, a man returning to a past he has tried to escape. When their lives collide, the story becomes more complex. It isn't a simple rescue; it's a messy, difficult connection between two broken people. Watching Vijaya's strength ignite and change those around her, including Shivil, is the most compelling part of the book. She isn't just a victim; she is a force.
What I appreciated most was the focus on solidarity between women. In a world designed to crush them, the small acts of support and understanding between the female characters become revolutionary acts. This provides a strong thread of hope throughout the story. The relationship that develops between Vijaya and Shivil feels earned and provides a compelling emotional core, offering a contrast to the heavier themes.
This book is not an easy read, but it is a necessary one. It pulls back the curtain on a harsh reality for many women, making you think long after you've finished the last page. It's a story about the worst of humanity, but also about the incredible resilience and power that can rise up in defiance.
From the first page my heart broke for Vijiya, especially because in the beginning her freedom was brutally snatched away from her after waiting for the freedom all her life, and then came the hardest blow, that she was sold by her father. Someone she trusted, someone who should have protected her, instead that person threw her in hell. It was heartbreaking to read.
It was dark, twisted, and gut-wrenching. Vijiya and Shivil have a long way to go even though they do have sexual tension between them, and I'm hoping to see emotional character development of Shivil in the next book. One thing I admired about him is his sense of protectiveness towards Vijiya and his connection with his men.
It truly is a dark romance, and you need to read trigger warnings before diving into the story because the book has dark elements, and those elements are heavy, overwhelming, and emotionally raw.
The book discusses some heavy themes like gender injustice, the flesh trade, trauma, harsh customs, and oppression. It was well-written and emotional to read. The characters were well-portrayed, and the trafficking theme is sensitive, the author still wrote it nicely. The story ends on a cliffhanger.
Overall, I liked the book and can't wait to read the next book series and get to know more about what happened with Vijaya and how Shivil is doing. It is a story of pain, passion, survival, danger, scars, suffering, and hope. If you enjoy fast-paced dark romance, then it's for you.
There are some stories that don’t just make you feel; they make you flinch. The Molki Bride was one of those for me. It’s dark, raw, and heartbreakingly real. The story follows Vijaya, a young woman sold by her own family into a world where women are treated like property, “molki” brides, traded and forgotten.
Her journey isn’t easy to read, but that’s the point. You feel every ounce of her fear, her anger, and that quiet, burning defiance that refuses to die. Then comes Shivil Kaushik, a man haunted by his own demons, someone you can’t quite decide to hate or understand. Their story isn’t a simple romance. It’s twisted, painful, and yet, somehow, it glows with the smallest flicker of hope.
The writing is vivid and it doesn’t shy away from the brutality of the world it depicts. Every scene feels heavy, cinematic even, and you can almost hear the silence between Vijaya and Shivil, that fragile tension that holds both destruction and redemption.
What I loved most, though, was how the women in this story weren’t just victims. They were survivors, each one carrying her own strength in the face of horror. The bond between them reminded me that even in the darkest places, there’s always light when women stand together. This isn’t your typical romance! it’s more of a revelation. A story that hurts, but one that needs to be told. The ending left me restless (that cliffhanger!!), but I’m definitely coming back for the next part.
I'm shocked. I'm stunned. I'm still reeling from the process. Okay, it's my first read of Lavanya & she didn't disappoint me. Within 276 pages, she stirred numerous emotions in me. Indeed, It was an emotional rollercoaster ride. The Molki Bride was definitely a good read!✨
Talking about the Protagonists, the FMC- Vijaya was a victim of Women trafficking yet, the way she started transforming into a strong woman at the end was worth it. On the other hand, the MMC- Shivil.....umm I've mixed emotions & opinions for him. He's strong, caring & supportive for sure but again the last few chapters of this book changed my outlook towards him. I didn't hate him but didn't love him either because of the way he started treating Vijaya.🌸
Coming to the Storyline- it was awesome. The concept of Molki isn't known to everyone & I think, people should be aware of these things which are still prevalent in the villages. Vijaya was a Molki. She suffered a lot & tried to escape but little did she know that she entered the den of the lion again. Well, for a short period of time, Shivil treated her right. I loved their chemistry. There's a little banter as well which kept me hooked. I liked Binita masi's role as well. She always supported Vijaya & wanted to free her.🌸
But was Vijaya interested in freeing herself or did she fall in love with her Nemesis? Will Shivil love her back? Will they live happily together? To know the answers, grab this book now.✨
The Molki Bride is one of those stories that hits hard. It is raw, emotional, and deeply unsettling in the best way. It’s a dark romance that dives into pain, trauma, and survival, yet still manages to find beauty in the bond between two broken souls.
Vijiya’s journey completely tore me apart. Sold by her own father and forced into a cruel system where women are treated like property, she refuses to give in. Her strength and defiance are incredible, even when life gives her nothing but scars. Then there’s Shivil a man haunted by his past, running from the ghosts he can’t quite escape. When their paths cross, it’s explosive, painful, and strangely healing all at once.
The author does an amazing job showing the contrast between brutality and tenderness. The emotions feel real, the atmosphere is hauntingly beautiful, and the chemistry between Vijiya and Shivil? Intense. You can feel their pain, anger, and desperate need for redemption in every scene.
It’s not an easy read some parts are genuinely hard to stomach but that’s what makes it powerful. It’s about survival, resilience, and finding love in the darkest corners of life.
If you love emotional, intense romances that make you feel everything like pain, anger and hope The Molki Bride is absolutely worth picking up. It’s dark, it’s heavy, but it stays with you long after the last page.
The Molki Bride is a haunting yet beautifully written dark romance that dives deep into pain, survival, and the unexpected bond between two broken souls. The story follows Vijiya, a young woman whose life takes a tragic turn when she is sold by her own father into a cruel world where women are treated as property, known as Molki. Her life is filled with fear, betrayal, and unbearable suffering — until fate brings her to Shivil, a man running from his own shadows.
The author captures both characters’ pain and strength with raw intensity. The atmosphere is dark, emotional, and deeply immersive, showing how love can bloom even in the most broken places. The chemistry between Shivil and Vijiya feels intense and magnetic, and their story leaves you wanting more, especially with the emotional cliffhanger at the end.
The writing is raw, the emotions intense, and the connection between the characters feels painfully real. It ends on a powerful note that leaves you aching for the next part. A must-read for dark romance lovers who crave stories filled with pain, passion, and redemption.
If you enjoy dark, emotional love stories that challenge your heart and leave you thinking long after, Molki Bride is one to add to your TBR.
The title The Molki Bride immediately caught my attention. it promised something raw, emotional, and powerful. I was quick to sign up for the book tour, and honestly, it wasn’t a bad decision at all.
The story follows Vijaya and Shivil, two characters whose lives intertwine under the most unexpected circumstances. Vijaya is sold into being a molki bride, a woman trafficked and forced into marriage by her own family. Her journey is heartbreaking yet deep. She endures unimaginable pain, fights to survive, and eventually breaks free from her traffickers. It’s at this turning point that her path collides with Shivil’s, changing both of their lives forever.
At its core, this is a story about resilience about how far a woman can go when she decides to reclaim her life. It’s a mix of love, obsession, oppression, and the courage to fight back against circumstances designed to break you.
One of the things I truly enjoyed was the writing style. The author’s narration flows smoothly, with a tone that carries both intensity and emotion. The pacing is balanced, and the story never feels stagnant. However, I did wish Vijaya had shown a stronger backbone when it came to Shivil. Given everything she had endured, I hoped to see a bit more defiance and strength in that dynamic.
The Molki Bride is a sorrowfully elegant tale that transports the reader to the underbelly and the darker sides of society where women are purchased, hushed up, and yet still manifest their power with surprise. The life of Vijaya — from sold bride to a phenomenal fortitude — was a page-turner for me right from the outset. The subdued yet vigorous force of Vijaya represents a kind of beauty that is the very light of the world designed to shatter her.
Shivil's troubled spirit infuses tension and tenderness into this love saga which, paradoxically, felt both disallowed and profoundly human at the same time. Lavanya's prose is unrefined, soothing, deeply felt, and filmic – thus, it is not merely the reader's coup that takes place here but the living of the story along with the character.
It is the dark side of love, but more importantly, it is a mirror held to society's face; it is a probing into the experience that even in the most desolate nights, the vices of courage and empathy become the marks of true rebellion. A gripping, unforgettable book that still smolders even after the last word is read.
The Molki Bride is a beautiful, dark romance set in rural India, where the unyielding practice of “molki” brides (women who can be purchased and sold for marriage) still exists. This story follows Vijaya, a young woman who is trafficked and forced into a marriage she had no say in. Labeled a “molki” bride, she is the property of Shivil Kaushik, a man hardened by betrayal and yet, burdened by his past.
Vijaya finds herself trapped in the bubble of pain, control and silence. Yet still her spirit is unbroken. While struggling through Shivil’s anger and the burden of tradition, a shift begins between them. Beneath all of the cruelty, there are moments of care and confusion and the emotions neither of them could ignore.
This is not a fairytale - it is not clean and sweet, but raw and emotional and wholly human. It is about how love finds ways to grow through the darkest of places, and strength is born through survival. It is a story of trauma, redemption and a woman who discovers that even when the world can treat you like property, your heart, can still be yours.
The Molki Bride is no doubt a MASTERPIECE!!! The Molki Bride is a dark romance between a trafficked girl and a monster in the dark!!! But he's gentleman for me shh🤫 It is a dark and emotional story that captures pain, strength, and forbidden love Beautifully!! 🤍
This book shows the dark reality of our society where girls still have to fight for education....where females are still considered a burden of family “A woman can never possess any property, no matter what the papers say. She is a possession herself!” this line made me angry soo much this shows the dark reality of our so called society
I loved how real and raw Vijaya and Shivil’s journey felt🤌 their connection was intense and heartbreaking!!!!😭😭Shivil and Vijiya's chemistry has a spark, and every time they are in the same room, the scene was🔥🔥 I don't know about other's, but for me, he literally proved himself as a gentleman. Yesss I know that he might have flaws, but his aura is too Amazing and Adoring I mean yeahh he's Amazing
My Inner sound: “ why'd it ended sooo soon??😭Where's the rest of the story???what happened to shivil? I WANT TO KNOW AHHHHH😩😩😩 The ending is killing me with the cliffhanger! The Cliffhanger is making me go crazy!!! 🤚🏻 I NEED MORE
A good story with a brilliant topic. When I started reading this book, my guess was that it was a simple story of a paro bride and her struggles. But when I dive deeper I realize this is completely different and too deep.
The author has picked a taboo topic and has done a great job defining it. Yes, it's a dark story, but absolutely entertaining. With Shivil and Vijiya's story, the author has made us understand the struggles of a Molki, and how difficult their survival is.
I don't know what people think about Shivil, but for me, he proved himself as a gentleman. Yes, he might have flaws, but his aura is too adoring. I loved his overall charisma. His and Vijiya's chemistry has a spark, and every time they are in the same room, the scene is lit. OMG, they are too good together.
Yes, the cliffhanger is making me go crazy, but I think the wait is going to be worth it, and will reveal many hidden secrets.
The Molki Bride is a fantastic creative masterpiece where a stark depiction of a dark issue of the society and everything centered around it have been brought alive brilliantly with dramatic love story bordering completely on varied emotions of high intensity. The mysterious twists of the village of Kaushalpukri along with its greatly interesting characters keeps you hooked throughout the book.
Vijaya's greatly optimistic personality, highly courageous attitude and never fearing from undertaking risky missions makes you admire her. Shivil comes across as a mysterious hero whose twisted personality as well as deeply caring side leaves you intrigued.
The gripping storyline which comes alive vibrantly with wonderful writing style impresses you with strong feminine characters too. Shivil's mother Savitri, their housekeeper Binita Masi and the social reformer Damayanti comes across as much needed saviours in the twisty world of Kaushalpukri.
This book was nothing like I expected and I mean that in the best way. I thought it would just be a different kind of read, but it turned out to be so much more. I’ve never read an Indian dark romance this powerful. From the cover, you’d never guess what’s inside, but once you start reading, it will blow your mind.
The Molki Bride sheds light on a harsh reality, human trafficking and the concept of Molki or Paro brides , a topic rarely discussed but so important. It’s dark, emotional, and thought-provoking, making you stop and feel every moment.
Vijaya and Shivil’s story is complex, twisted, and hauntingly beautiful. She’s a survivor of trafficking; he’s her captor and protector all at once. Their chemistry is so intense it practically pulses off the pages. You don’t know whether to fear their bond or fall for it and that’s what makes it unforgettable.
I read this in one sitting, completely hooked from the first page. The story, the tension, the darkness, everything is written so vividly that you can’t look away. And that cliffhanger? Torture. I need the next book right now!
A raw, romantic, and deeply moving dark romance that lingers long after you finish.
The Molki Bride is a dark romance between a trafficked girl and a monster in the dark that shows us the grim reality of society where girls still have to fight for education, where justice still means a village council and not the legal system of our country, where females are still considered unlucky and a burden, to be rid of as soon as they are born.
The narrative is Vijaya’s struggle of identity, voice and dignity in an environment of control, abuse and societal prejudiec. In her hope to find a place for herself in the swirling vortex of unpredictability and treachery that has been her life, he becomes the only anchor in her tattered world. Vijaya’s pain lands onto our mind’s eye and douse us completely with raw agony.
Shivil, who returns back to India after many years has its own shades; embroiled in deep intensities, shaded with hues which are sometimes indiscernible, sometimes inscrutable. He is comforting, yet scary.
The author has marvellously fused complexity of a Molki Bride (a woman who has been purchased for marriage as a result of money buying) with romance. It is a love story between two of the most unlikely of the characters, a pair which will surely leave the readers mulling over what will transpire next after you finish this one. The characterisation is captivating!
This might be the first time I have read an INDIAN dark romance, and I must say that the author has pulled off this concept very well! My hands were sweating while reading this book - meaning this one had me hooked throughout!
In the very chapter itself, I had goosebumps. Vijaya remains silent most of the time, but her inner monologue speaks in itself how strong she is. I just wish to hug her, and many other girls like her. There was something about Shivil that was comforting, but also scary at the same time. Whenever he was close to Vijaya, although he kept his boundaries (I appreciate him for that), but in the back of my mind there would still be a feeling of uneasiness. But both of these characters tackled their inner demons. There was a spark between the two of them the moment their eyes met. I'm glad that things between them were slow and respectful. But of course the book is left in a cliffhanger, and I'm eager to read the upcoming book!!
This book discusses heavy topics, and must be read carefully. It's a short and fast paced book, so I would definitely recommend this to you.
It’s raw, painful, and real in a way that just stays with you. I’m still trying to process everything I read. Vijaya’s story broke me. Her pain, her fear, her strength everything felt so real. I could actually feel the weight of her struggles. And Shivil… I don’t even know how to feel about him. One minute I wanted to trust him, the next I wanted to scream at him. He’s such a complicated mess of love, guilt, and control, and that’s exactly what made it so intense.
The author didn’t just tell a story, she made me live it. The world she created was dark, haunting, and way too close to reality. And that cliffhanger? No. Just no. How am I supposed to move on now? Still sitting here, completely wrecked and waiting impatiently for the next one
THE MOLKI BRIDE is not just a light hearted romance novel, it enthralls you in it's web of romance and shows you the harsh reality of India when women became scarcity due to their own female foeticide ( coz yea a girl child became a burden in their families back ) but they needs to have women for their lust and to bear their male heirs ... Ms. author @mrsclairebooks didn't shy away from the intense themes , the suffering of women in a deep controlling patriarchal society , she portrays it with a vivid writing and accurate description of the details ... The story revolves around vijaya a molki bride who lost his mother and made a promise to her "she will never be entrapped in this sex slavery" but her father has some other plans , he abducted her , sold her as molki paro to some old man where she suffers from not only manual slavery in the farm , but attempted rape , tortured , burned and kept worse than animals .... Shivil kaushik aka asshole yea I find him as a cute narcissist asshole who runs into her when he was visiting his village for the first time .... The story is filled with suspense , cliffhanger , plot twists ....
Before starting with the book, I honestly didn't know what the word 'molki' meant. To be very honest, I had signed up for the book just because it was a dark-romance. But then, I started reading the book.. It is a beautifully penned book, which tells us about the situation of the 'molki' or 'paro' bride culture in India, and it truly left me with no words.
It's about Vijaya, a girl who's sold by her father and made a MOLKI, means a bride who's bought, not chosen. Her life is full of pain, but she still keeps hope alive in her own quiet way.
Then there's Shivil, a man with a dark past. He is powerful, protective of his close persons. He's both a blessing and a curse in her life. When they meet, their worlds crash together, and what follows is a dark, emotional, and unforgettable story.
✿ What stood out the most for you?
Of course the writing !!! It's bold, descriptive, and full of emotion. The author has expressed every emotion so beautifully that you'll surely get connected with the characters. !! She didn't sugarcoat anything she showed what pain exactly is & how it feels to survive with fear all day.
I also loved how the story balanced two very different worlds. Shivil's world of money and power versus Vijaya's world of survival.
✿ How would you describe the romance?
First of all if you prefer light, feel-good romances, this probably isn't your cup of tea !!!
It's not the soft, flowery kind of love. It's raw, complicated, and heavy, the kind that burns and heals at the same time.
Shivil's & Vijaya's connection grows slowly, filled with tension and emotion. Their bond feels real, not rushed, and that's what makes it so powerful.
✿ Did the book leave a lasting impression?
Absolutely !! The ending & that cliffhanger left me completely speechless. I'm still thinking about it.
The story is dark and heavy, yes, but it also shows the strength of women and the power of survival. It's a mirror reflecting uncomfortable truths about society !!!
It's one of those books that lingers long after you've finished it.
⭐ This book hit way harder than I thought it would. It’s dark, emotional, and painfully real. Not your usual romance ; it’s a story that crawls under your skin and stays there 💯
⭐ It talks about serious issues like gender inequality, trafficking, and cruel traditions, but it never feels preachy. The focus always stays on the characters, showing how they survive and fight through those harsh realities.
⭐ The writing is powerful and vivid. You can feel every emotion in the silences and every word carries weight. The story moves quickly, keeping you hooked, yet it still manages to hit deep emotionally.
⭐ Perfect for readers who enjoy dark, character driven stories with emotional depth and social reality.
