Regan Fellows meets with Selena, the owner of a nightclub called The Vines that caters to vampires. Selena wishes to hire Regan, a vampire hunter, to find out where a new supply of blood is coming from. Selena wants her club to provide healthy, filtered blood to her vampire patrons but the higher-ups are doing some shady business. Tainted blood can kill vampires and that's not good for business.

While at the nightclub, Regan meets Garrett Reynolds, the sexy bartender. Despite her professional work ethic, she finds herself often distracted and unable to concentrate when Garrett is around, potentially putting them both in danger.

I found the idea that Regan was once a vampire but went through some sort of painful extraction process in order to make her mortal again very interesting. Though mortal now, she still has some special vampire abilities she's not particularly happy to still have but they do come in handy in her line of work.

The mystery aspect of the story was interesting. I found myself very curious as to what was really going on, and what or who the shadows were that seemed to follow Regan around.

Now, although I thought the idea behind the story and the writing was good, I think that the story would have been better had it been longer. It's novella length, and for me, I felt that the story was rushed. I would have liked to have gotten to know Regan and Garrett more, and the big confrontation with the bad guys was resolved too quickly, too cleanly. I can't be sure exactly but one of the sex scenes may have taken longer than the confrontation. I did feel a build up to the story but was rather disappointed with the way things were resolved. At times I felt a bit lost and confused as well.

Blood of the Vines is book one of a series, and despite everything, I am interested in Regan's next adventure.

Regan is a vampire hunter. She prowls the night in search of her targets. Yet, she also hides a dangerous secret – she is a former vampire, who put herself through sheer torture to transform into a normal being.

The world as Regan knows it is full of creatures of the night – vampires, Nosferatus, weres. Humans are a dying breed, and disease and vermin runs rampant among the mortals. It is hard to find untainted blood to survive.

A prospective job brings her to The Vines, an upscale and hip bar which caters to the rich, the bold, and the beautiful. But appearances are deceptive, and the owner of the bar, who contacted her in the first place, wants her to investigate its goods’ supply. The twist – The Vines sells pure and coveted vintages, of blood. A series of disappearances, murders, and human traffic might be at the origins of this inflow of “produce”.

Regan does not have her work cut out for her, and when her head starts to spin with pure lust under the unabashed gaze of handsome bartender Garrett, she knows danger is dangling over her head like the sword.

I was captivated by the world Ms. Cory weaves. The setting, mood and characters are utterly realistic and believable, and it had me wondering whether the real world as we know it might not in fact be one rampant with creatures of the night. Her voice flows very well, and is witty and packed with allusions evocative of the mood and this make-believe world she has created. Ms. Cory also packs in action, suspense, as well as romance. Stirred into the pot are the erotic encounters of Regan and Garrett, and I swear these interludes will have any reader hot and bothered in a jiffy.

My only peeve is in the flow of the words, which is rendered quite run-on and jarring through somewhat erratic punctuation.

It is however, a read I would highly recommend.

Thanks to Knights of the Round Table for the opportunity to read this. Blood of the Vines is the first Ann Cory book I have read and I am glad I got the chance. It was an enjoyable short story although I would have liked to read much more of the details about Regan's past. Is she really of royal blodd and what happened to bring her to where she is? I also wish that the mystery Regan was hired to solve had a bit more depth, but it could always be the basis for some of her future adventures.
Loved the connection between Regan and Garrett and would love to see where life takes them. Their undenaible attraction, leading them both to distraction, was fun to read.
The concept of the vampire hunter being a vampire previously was intriguing, especially since Regan lived through it and managed to keep some of her vampire powers. Her comments to Garrett about how she has found her destiny and must do her part made her even a stronger character.
I will definately be checking out more of Ann Cory's books in the future.

I was very intrigued by this book. I enjoyed it and wanted so much more. I wanted to know more about the Descendants. I wanted to know more about the vampires. I wanted to know more about their powers. I just wanted MORE!

I felt like there were huge chunks missing out of my knowledge about vampires and their powers and how they came to be. These huge chunks kept questions swirling in my head and kept me from thoroughly enjoying the book. I felt like I was reading part of a larger story.

I enjoyed the attraction between Garrett and Regan. I liked their interplay and enjoyed the hot, might be discovered sex they had.

I do plan to read the next ones in the series because I do want t know more. Maybe I'll get those answers in the later books.

I received a copy of this book through Knights of the Round Table Group and the author in exchange for an honest review.

Alternative name - Blood of the vines (Vampire Hunter Book 1)

A short vampire-themed erotic story which was reasonably written for the size of it. I enjoyed Regan the ex-Vampire (not sure how you do that?) turned vampire-hunter. There wasn't much room for character development understandably.

The name indicades that it is the first of a series? but I was unable to locate any other books associated with it.

My final verdict: if you’re looking for a quick diversion with some super-charged erotic elements and a vampire-flavored theme, this is a fun, hot read. If you’re looking for something with a little more substance, you might be disappointed.

Your pussy is so hot. It is practically melting my dick right off. You like? Is this what you want?” I could rant about the shitty sex language but I thought it more prudent to just give the example that made me quit the book. Just awful... Dnf
