Roald Dahl and His Chocolate Factory

Dead Famous

by Andrew Donkin

You've probably heard of Roald Dahl...He's dead famous for writing loads of brilliant books for children, telling terrifying tales of the unexpected and creating a fantastic chocolate factory. But have you heard that Roald: was a fighter pilot and a spy in the Second World War, loved playing outrageous practical jokes, nearly lost his nose...twice? Yes, even though he's dead, Roald's still full of surprises. Now you can get the inside story with Roald's secret diary and find out what hit the headlines in The Daily Telegraph. This is a life story just as fascinating as Roald Dahl's books - full of drama, excitement, disaster...and chocolate.

I've shelved it under 'Horrible Histories', although it's not an actually Horrible History book, it very much mimics the style of the series. Very informative, humourous and the pictures add a lot to the book. I learnt loads about Roald Dahl that I didn't already know. My nephews have really gotten into the Horrible History books so I'll definitely be passing the Horribly Famous series onto them.

This book was just a real easy holiday book. Even though I wasn't on a holiday, I still read it. It wasn't anything special. It was an average kind of book for a 9 year old. This book has positive and negative results in my mind. I DID learn a lot from this book and now know a whole lot about Roald Dahl. But it is also sort of informal sometimes, it may have been the authors approach, I might of picked the wrong book. But sometimes I don't know if what I'm reading is real or fake.

Roald Dahl always writes such amazing stories, didn't know his own life was as interesting as this. I haven't read much of his work, watched many movies based on his works though, but this book surely made me wanting to read more from his works, especially his short stories.

The illustrations are quite well done and they are funny. A good read!

It's a nice book that gives you facts about Dalh's life and his work. You don't need to be a fan of Dahl's to read this book although if you are you'll enjoy it a lot more.
