Simon

Rate this book
Follow Simon of Cyrene, he who was compelled to carry Jesus's cross, on his political, social, and spiritual journey leading up to, during, and after his short walk with Christ on the road to Golgotha.

From Simon's hometown of Cyrene to his marketing hub in in the defensive port of Apollonia, across the Mediterranean Sea to the massive Roman naval base of Caesarea Maritima, and on to the melting pot of Jerusalem be part of Simon's journey to expand his trade across the Roman Empire, confront social unrest, and fall prey to a frenzied mob.

As a husband, father, and business leader what will become of Simon, his family, and entrepreneurial legacy when everything comes crashing down as he is pulled from the crowd in Jerusalem by Roman soldiers to carry a cross for a man named Jesus? Will he be able to piece together the pieces of his shattered life? How will he react to his personal walk with the Savior of the world?

Where this story of Simon came from.

I was intrigued by Simon of Cyrene, he who helped Jesus carry the cross, after watching a movie detailing the crucifixion of Jesus. Immediately I sought to learn more about Simon.

Information about Simon of Cyrene is scant. He is only mentioned three times in the Bible, all referencing the moment when he was compelled to carry the cross. There is nothing about him before carrying the cross and nothing after it. However, enough puzzle pieces are available that a story emerged in my mind. I could not sit still until it was written.

In the process of writing this novel I considered the atonement of Christ in a whole new light. It is my hope that through this fictional story of Simon you too may consider more deeply what Christ's infinite atonement means to you.

I am a husband, father, outdoor enthusiast, admirer of history, and delight in the challenges of creativity.

As an author I write about topics that help build character, faith, and our potential to be all that we can be while also improving the world around us.

I love to study history, geography, and cultures. I believe knowing a little about where others come from broadens perspective and helps build relationships.

I can get by speaking Portuguese and French. Far from fluent in them, I am always on the lookout for ways to improve my skills with these fun languages.

When it comes to reading, my book shelves are dominated by non-fiction, biographies, outdoor, and classical literature. However, will little kids at home, Children's book are currently high on the reading list.

I'd love to get to know you, Let's connect!

Fun to read a book written by a friend. Not my typical genre but enjoyed a unique story about the Savior and the perspective given to Simon’s story!

The author did a great job at adding historical context to make it more accurate. He did a great job at giving Simon a background story and show the impact that a particular moment had on his life. I like the style he wrote it too, it was unique.

Imagine, you’ve been traveling to a foreign region. Your feet are exhausted, your stomach growling for food, and mentally you just want to sleep. You are moments from arriving at your hotel when unexpectedly you’re in the middle of a capital punishment procession. To your horror, you are forced to walk with the accused at gun point. How would you react?

This scenario happened to a real man named Simon of Cyrene. The accused was Jesus Christ. If you walked with the Savior of the world, in the midst of His atonement for you, how might that affect you?

The core of this story is about the tender hand of God in our lives, how we are each other’s angels, and the incomprehensible mercy of God.

I hope you take the time to read it.

Enjoy!

The book creates a fictional story around a historical person we know very little about but who interacted with the Savior during his final moments. It opened up my mind to explore and contemplate how I would have felt and responded at that moment. In gradually building a back story of the character throughout the book, it also looks at how our experiences and choices impact our lives. This prompted me to look for parallels in my life that have influenced who I am today and the relationship I have with Jesus Christ as well as how my actions today are shaping my future.
