Based on his highly popular Columbia Business School course “Personal Leadership & Success”, Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa shares key principles for how to pursue success by letting your true self shine through in everything you do.In our pursuit of success, we often struggle to balance the world’s demands with our own dreams. Some of us pursue Outer Success, wanting to be liked and loved, supported and promoted. But in our quest for worldly glory, we may ignore the subtle stirring of our spirit, waking up one day to realize just how far we have drifted from our personal ideals. Others among us seek Inner Success, wanting the freedom to pursue our own calling. But in our quest to be true to ourselves, we may end up hurting, disappointing, or antagonizing others, straining relationships and being sidelined. It seems that our drives for Outer and Inner Success are destined to clash. But perhaps that’s only because we’ve been searching for success in the wrong places. We can pursue from the place where our greatest potential is held, our Inner Core, by activating Five Core Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love, and Self-Realization.Through extensive scientific research and masterful storytelling about exemplary figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Nelson Mandela—and everyday heroes drawn from Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa’s class at Columbia Business School and client workshops at Mentora Institute—readers arrive at timeless principles of success in life and leadership. Empowered by your Five Core Energies, you discover how to create outer impact from a place of inner mastery. With a PhD in Management Science from MIT and a lifelong study of the world’s mystic traditions, Wadhwa brings a mathematician’s rigor and a truth-seeker’s spirit to some of today’s most vexing questions about authenticity, success, leadership, and human potential. This book shows how by activating your Inner Core and expressing it in everything you do, you create the conditions where Inner Success and Outer Success can flourish in mutual harmony.
Excellent work and beautiful writing. It is like Hitendra Wadhwa speaks to you directly and makes you reflect on all moments in your life and those of the historical leaders and gain a new perspective about life's purpose, demanding situations, and conduct in general.
Inner Mastery, Outer Impact; just like the title suggests, works on your inner most energies to grow and achieve success. The author Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa, has outlined the five core energies: Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love and Self-realization that will boost you to fulfil your potentials. Backed with extensive research and stories about real-life idols like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln and others, this book will help you tap into your higher selves.
This book was a no nonsense, research backed guide, that was just what I need come this June month. The author has used simple language for us to understand better yet have not skimmed off on the data. Reading a non-fiction ebook after a long time, that too such an interesting one was a wonderful experience. The self improvement genre is so underrated, this book is an example of just that. It was enriching, profound and kept me hooked throughout. All I wish is to take the learning from this book and apply it in my life. That's another thing about this book, the journey doesn't end when you finish reading it, in fact it has just started.
"The path of Love invites us to become a gardener of our inner life so Love can bloom."
Every once in a while I tend to read self help books to expand my perception on things. Although, I am not that big of a fan of Non Fiction, I try to step out of my comfort zone for the sake of finding something that I might truly enjoy.
I picked up Inner Mastery, Outer Impact by Hitendra Wadhwa recently and I am really impressed by how it focuses on healthy practices of self affirmations and how important it is to treat your mind with the same care as you'd treat any other part of your body that is.
A lot of times in order to make others happy or to fit in, we forget what makes us happy or what is actually good for us. We end up chasing moments that don't serve us any purpose and end up with a restless mind.
This book tells us how we can achieve everything we want in life by focusing on our five core energies —
Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love and self realization.
There are points in the book conveyed by examples, narrated in the form of short stories that can help people with introspection and by taking these into account one can work on bringing out the best version of themselves there is.
It took me a while to finish this because there were so many moments that needed to be processed with focus to understand every bit of it but it was definitely worth it.
This is a book that I would love to go back to every now and then.
If you are someone who likes to read self help books then you should definitely check this one out.
Inner Mastery, Outer Impact: How Your Five Core Energies Hold the Key to Success Book by Hitendra Wadhwa
I'm personally not a very big fan of 'Self-Help' books, no hate to the genre but sometimes I feel the books are too out there for my taste personally, so if you are like me, this is not one of those self help books. The book is actually believable and grounded in reality and presented with research and scientific backups.
I loved the real life instances and lessons from lives of everyday people from different walks of life and also global role models like Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and Gandhi.
The book is aptly described as a “user manual for life". As the author explains " My goal in this book is to help us find universal laws of human nature that can guide us to our true nature—our highest potential—and to demonstrate that when we live in harmony with these laws, we create the conditions for outer success and impact."
The main teachings of the book can be summarised in the idea of what the author calls the “five Core Energies”—purpose, wisdom, growth, love, and self-realization, and how to work with them in everyday life to live a more concious, harmonious and purposeful life. One thing if I could change would be making the book little shorter otherwise a great book.
We must have heard this very famous saying that "Success comes from within" but have we ever questioned how?
Success is perceived differently by different people, some people identify outer accomplishments with success while others may attach success with inner peace, freedom and sanctity.
But in one way or the other, both the outer and inner successes often clash with each other making it a tough riddle to crack for people seeking it.
Through this book, the author precisely carries out the agenda of ironing out the 5 main areas of focus. Maybe we’ve been searching for success in the wrong places. We can pursue from the place where our greatest potential is held, our Inner Core, by activating Five Core Energies:
I was particularly impressed by how the author has put down various examples and have helped us decrypt the ideal ways of addressing a problem. By giving various real life examples, he not only helped the reader make sense of what he is trying to say but also retained the attention on the 5 core energies throughout this book.
I have been practicing meditation for a while now and I could very well relate to many ideas encompassed in this book.
Recommendation: I'd recommend this book to people who've been running circles trying to achieve something and really want a good headstart.
"When we go beyond our emotions and thoughts to dig deeper in the soil of our consciousness, we eventually hit the hard rocks of our beliefs. Beliefs define the frame through which we perceive the world. They shape our thoughts, motivations, actions and ultimately our lives. Wisdom invites us to choose our beliefs wisely, and to challenge and change those that are holding us back from seeing the fullest possibilities." - Hitendra Wadhwa, PhD Inner Mastery, Outer Impact
I recently read "Inner Mastery, Outer Impact by Dr Hitendra Wadhwa and it provided me with a worthy break from the streak of fiction reads I built over the past few months. Initially, I was sceptical about the book that it would be like most of the other self-help books which state the same thing in different ways but I was wrong and this was one of those few moments where I felt glad to be proven wrong.
The book focuses on how we can grow, lead and achieve our goals by unleashing the true potential that is held inside our inner core. It talks about five core energies: Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love and Self realisation and how mastery over these core energy can help us to hit our targets. The wisdom shared through the book is well researched and backed by examples of our world's greatest personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, etc. These examples not only helped me to understand the concepts that the author wants the readers to understand but also the characters, excellence and perception of those people.
The language was simple and the author's art of storytelling makes it interesting to read. It's a kind of book that needs to be read slowly and time should be given to understand and absorb the knowledge in our lives and reflect through our actions. I might read it once more to understand it better. Overall it was wonderful food for thought read.
'Inner Mastery, Outer Impact: How Your Five Core Energies Hold the Key to Success' by Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa, turns out to be an astonishing and guiding self-help read. This book centers five core energies that could change an individual's life in many ways.
The five energies are: purpose, wisdom, love, growth & self-realization. The author through this book makes us understand the value of these five energies and tries to awaken them within us. The author talks about the great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln & many more.
Throughout the novel, the author has kept on inspiring us with such dedicated flow of writing & dose of guide. I definitely gained countless things from this novel & I would highly recommend it to the fellow readers as well.
This book fills you with hope, wisdom, and everything you need to live a life where you have deep-dived into your own self and harnessed the potential to achieve the best version of you. The topics covered in this book are everything you need to understand how to make crucial decisions that shape your and your journey in life. His writings inspire a commitment to the journey of the heart and will stay with you even after you have turned the last page!
Inner Mastery | Outer Impact allows the reader to tap into their inner being by listing out the five core energies. It uses very straightforward language to understand fully, alongside with inspiring stories of the author himself and great leaders throughout our time, to keep the reader engaged and wanting to make positive changes in their life.
It's great to dig deeper into yourself and realise the potential within and I love that the book lays it out for you, whilst it is also balanced between scientific research and spirituality, which makes it easily digestible and interesting to read!
I enjoyed the book. Bottom line is you have to master the inner core of yourself before you can master your purpose and impact the world at large. It's a beautiful sentiment and ends with meditation.
Inner Mastery, Outer Impact (IM/OI) is beautifully written, very easy to follow and ties in ancient wisdom and scientific underpinnings of how to master oneself, to have an effective positive impact on others. IM/OI takes on those existential questions about life and finding one’s true self and purpose, while giving the reader tools to answer these questions for themselves. This book is an essential read for those, who seek to understand the human condition and the meaning of life. The book is written in an easily understandable story format, where each of the central five core energies, namely purpose, wisdom, love, growth and self-realisation, are explained with the help of both personal journey stories of the author Hitendra Wadhwa and that of his students, as well as those of great leaders. The stories and the imagery-dominating language make it very easy to remember the principles of the book, as well as give an insight into the lives of great leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa. These stories remove the need to read separate biographies and inspire, as these are normal people who have attained extraordinary things, by acting in a certain way – in alignment with their inner core. It is true that there is no “new information” as such in the book, which it also clearly states at the beginning, as it is based on ancient philosophies. However, the book backs up these philosophies with new, current scientific evidence and creates a unique framework of five core energies, based on Mentora´s own research over the past decades. It also gives specific first steps to take, to become better at inner mastery. As such, IM/OI is an amazing source of knowledge as well as purpose. The book itself leads the reader towards a path of self-discovery and discovery of other prominent leaders. What I love most about the teachings is that unlike other philosophies/books, it does not tell you to be a certain way in terms of attributes, or limits leadership to specific personalities, because that assumes that some of us are better suited than others to lead, which in turn limits people´s potentials. “Life is leadership, and leadership is life” states the author. I can highly recommend the book, as it is exquisitely researched, and satisfies both the scientist in me, as well as the spiritual seeker. IM/OI definitely sparks to challenge one own´s thoughts and beliefs, attitudes and reactions, without demoralising. It takes you to the finish line of us all having the ability to master ourselves, before we attempt to change others, because we can only inspire, never force. This book is a call for personal growth and that of society. With so many global challenges faced, we all need to strive to bring positive change to the world, and hereby everyone is a leader in their everyday life, no matter how big or small.
Reading “Inner Mastery, Outer Inpact” feels like stepping aboard a transformative journey to the center of your inner self. Make no mistake - this is not just a joy ride. Hitendra Wadhwa poses some serious and life-altering questions; he puts you in front of scenarios like ‘when the final curtain falls’ and offers a plethora of sometimes heart-wrenching and sometimes exhilarating first-hand accounts coming from the many executives he has coached, E/MBA students he has taught at Columbia University and from the many studies of historical figures like Lincoln, Jobs, Mother Theresa to name a few. No matter how hard the questions this master storyteller poses, the way he engages the reader is fascinating, eye-opening, mind-boggling and has you at the edge of your seat. Is it possible to forget you are not reading a novel, when the protagonist of this overarching narrative is your own self - with all your faults and favors, all your aspirations and despairs? Who can resists a book like this!
And yet at the end of the day what stands out for me is that this book offers a thought-provoking, highly intellectual, philosophical vision of leadership in the 21st century, one that fuses century-old insights stemming from the contemplative sciences of the East with cutting-edge, modern discoveries from such fields as neuroscience and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Fortuitously, in a world that is as divided as we haven’t seen since the Cold War and hungry for inclusivity and purpose, here comes Hitendra and offers a meticulously researched structure of the 5 Energies that - when deliberately cultivated and practiced each day, will make you not just a better leader, but a better person, and it will naturally, authentically manifest on the outside thus inspiring those around you - your co-workers, teams, families, communities.
IMOI has been a game changer to me. It is bold in that it offers a comprehensive view on how to bring out your best self in a world in which we have gotten used to one-word titles. It is double daring because it does not shy away from touching on what we would call the spiritual - a concept we have tried to do away with over the last few decades. And with this it is transcendental, because it lays the ground for a completely new approach to inclusivity, one that focuses on our shared, humane attributes thus transcending differences, religions, sexual orientation etc.
This book is must read if you want to critically examine not just where you come from but, more importantly, who you want to become in the remaining time that you have left on this planet. A true game changer for not just leadership & development professionals but for each and everyone of us.
Inner Mastery, Outer Impact: How Your Five Core Energies Hold the Key to Success Author - Hitendra Wadhwa Published by Hachette Rating For concept - 5/5 For research - 5/5 For Writing - 3.8/5
This is an amazing book to read if you want to learn how to stay positive, productive, and composed in your life. I liked it because author Hitendra Wadhwa sir not only focused on the human's psychological side but the book also discussed how to master one's inner core from a spiritual perspective. In this book, the author tells us why you need to control your mind in spiritual aspects and I feel so much resonating with it.
Do you know Leadership starts with our own control of our mind and body? We need to be free from our regular habitual modes of notion, beliefs, pondering, and confining personality traits, we must not be driven by ego or inferiority but our commitment should be to our purpose.
In his impeccably simple language and moving writing style, professor Wadhwa takes us on the journey of some people, and their situations. Here, you will hear not only well-known characters but a lot of unknown, ordinary person's life stories, their struggle, their strength, and when they got the mantra of success and how they took those teachings from their daily life. Each story is intense and inspiring and the author with his words discusses these from their psychological and spiritual side and their effect on our life. I liked how the author aligned science and spirituality.
In this book, the author exhibited the Inner Mastery, and Outer Impact journeys of five famous inspiring figures from history: Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and Gandhi. In his words he says: On the surface, there’s not much in common between these people and you. They lived in different times, played different roles, and likely had different personalities from you. And yet if you expand your thinking about them, you will see that they were, like you and me, on a human journey.
A very well-crafted, well-researched, and balanced writing of spirituality and science of psychology. This book has a very smooth flow of writing and is well detailed, it mentioned the problems and how to master them in a very easy manner. Sometimes it falls too slow because of the heavy detailing of the analysis, and the collection of stories but the author keeps the reader gravitated in and in the end, it's worth reading.
Thanks Hitendra - just finished reading the book - so much wisdom.
Thank you for what you do and for following your heart and soul. An inspiration for me to continue on my path, even though some days seem blurry and not sure what is next.
Great to read your lens on Gandhi and Yogananda - pure souls who lift the world today and tomorrow. Two forces who have been with me over the past year guiding my thoughts, emotions and tribulations.
I felt like the book ending didn't do much justice though. I didn't connect.
Highlights from the book - What is the greatest version of me that I could be? - “When one teaches, two learn.” - you, too, are a hero in some people’s lives. You owe it to them to be your best self, to fight the good fight, to approach your highest potential. - “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” -“What Gandhi thinks, what he feels, what he says, and what he does are all the same. - In what situations, in work and elsewhere, do you feel true to yourself, so that what you think, feel, say, and do are in perfect harmony? - The path to inner success lies in discovering your true self and manifesting it in your every thought, feeling, word, and action. - maintain peace within yourself so that much can go on around you and you can stay calm inside. - Einstein: “There are two kinds of people. Those who believe everything is a miracle, and those who believe nothing is a miracle.”
FIVE CORE ENERGIES Purpose: Pursue a purpose-driven path in life, paved with values, with goals as your milestones. Self-Realization: Be centered in your tranquil and joyful spirit within.
▪️This book talks about the power of being true to your inner self and how it will in turn reflect in outer world through our actions. Author has also thrown light on how this can influence our leadership qualities and success eventually. By activating our inner core and with the help of five core energies (Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love and Self realization), we can create an outer impact while holding on to our inner mastery.
▪️The book is a fine balance between spiritual as well philosophical aspects. There are so many other stories and experiences shared except author's personal account which help us understand and reflect things better. Not only the learnings from famous personalities are included, but he has also shared knowledge and experiences from ordinary people who impacted his life at different points in one way or the other. He also got to learn a lot from his students. We get to learn that there is no teacher, no teaching, no path that can guarantee outer success unless we are able to improvise our inner selves and try to grow to our full potential from within.
▪️The book is quite well researched and has a lot of wisdom to share but to grasp the meaning and to implement them in life is upto us. Also, at certain points, the book got too detailed and felt a bit stretched due to heavy detailing and back stories. The content felt repetitive at a few points but the underlying message was vivid and clear. Overall, it is a nice book and worth a read if you like reading books in this genre.
▶️This book will teach you how to master your 5 key energies in order to become successful. It comprises of 3 sections that are ;
🔸The Map 🔸The Journey 🔸The Destination
▶️This might become one of your favourite self help books, if you're more focused on developing your innerself. Our mind is our home and everything else is a reflection of the image inside. What goes in there comes out and reflects in the reality only.
▶️It starts with the self observation, keeping a constant check on your innerself to sustaining a improvement mindset. It offers a variety of mindful practices one can apply & brings your attention to a handful of amazing topics.
▶️I personally liked the short stories and the language, though it's a pretty thick book over 350+ pages but the researched data and handful practices justifies it. If you're a observant person then this might be the right one for you.
Give it a try !! Who knows what you'll learn, life never seize to amaze us know !!
Author Hitendra Wadhwa being a professor at Columbia Business School , for his class with key principles for personal leadership and success, he has won Dean Award. In his book Inner Mastery, Outer Impact he explained the laws of success in life and leadership. In life, both outer and inner success is must to achieve but we as a human being runs for materialistic or outer success. Author have thrown light on five core energies : Love, wisdom, purpose, growth and self realization. Book is written conversationally , Questions by people and answers given by Author. This book works majorly for both life and work, as these plays crucial role in the human lives. Title means a lot, while reading this book we understand how title Inner Mastery, Outer Impact, is totally justified with each page and concept of this book. Author have done a lot of Research and invested deades for writing work which made a reader to analyse his own life and success. Living and leading all the five core energies are explained. Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa and other real life ideals are mentioned. Three stages of our life , this topic is so well written. I have annotated a lot. This book is lifetime , must have work. You can re read it multiple times and it will learn you something new with every read.
In his book Inner Mastery, Outer Impact author Hitendra Wadhwa says 5 of the core energies viz. purpose, wisdom, growth, love and self-realization. He has drawn out a map for readers, taken us to the journey and has given an idea of how the destination would look like if we tried activating our core inner energies. Throughout his 350 pages work the author gives references of successful people mainly Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, various kingdoms of ancient India, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela. Repeated references of success stories of theirs and many others are used to make his explanation simpler and to tell us how actually the journey would be. Research around science, religion, entrepreneurship and lives of these great personalities could be termed as the roots of this book. He asks us to make our basics clear when we pursue success and has indeed with examples explained how leadership and life lessons help us, somewhat, achieve the common goal.
The book is a farrago of self-help, spirituality, leadership lessons vs way of life, least preaching which I like in such books, loads of research. I like how author has done research to explain his basic points. Although, this could be a con for beginners, and so much of firing of scientific or psychological facts also wasn't needed.
Still, I would recommend this to the core non-fiction readers who are into self improvement books. Beginners should go ahead cautiously.

This book was Stevo's Business Book of the Week for the week of 10/16, as selected by Stevo's Book Reviews on the Internet and Stevo's Novel Ideas. Wadhwa shares key principles for how to pursue success by letting your true self shine through in everything you do.
In the professional world, many of us get things done based on the skills we have learned from others and developed on our own. These skills are governed by our desire for recognition and promotion, which Wadhwa, in his new book, calls Outer Success. As we take on leadership roles, however, this quest for recognition and promotion leads to insecurity because we have moved away from our personal ideals.
Others focus entirely on achieving Inner Success: the achievement of personal status and wealth over that of others, leading to antagonistic relationships, disappointing outcomes, and eventual sidelining because you are not a team player.
"Inner Mastery, Outer Impact," finds a middle ground between these conflicting quests, based on five Core Energies: Purpose, Wisdom, Growth, Love, and Self-Realization. The book examines the lives of several figures who have achieved this pinnacle (including Martin Luther King and Mahatma Ghandi) and shows how we can use these Core Energies to live more fulfilling lives, both personally and professionally.
After more than 25 years in management roles, I still struggle with finding ways to turn conflict into concensus. Wadhwa's readable and inspiring book is full of possibilities I can't wait to try.

3.5 stars! Inner Mastery, Outer Impact is a book that distils the common underlying principles across religions, cultures and science. The author concludes there are 5 pillars that allow us to be our best selves (by tapping into our “inner core”) and thus allowing us to have a greater impact.
Most of the book is really focused on inner mastery and loosely ties in the outer impact. The 5 pillars: purpose, wisdom, growth, love and self-realization each get a chapter that explains why and how. And each gets a real world-famous example.
I’ve read a decent amount of “self-help” so the pillars were not new to me. However, the book served as a reminder to stick to them and I did restart my meditation practice. I deeply enjoyed the passage: “I offer you, the more we wish to serve others, the more crucial it is for us to cultivate inner joy.”
The book is long and riddled with too many examples. To the point, I sometimes couldn’t connect the examples to the message and sometimes lost the message in the examples. It made the book difficult for me to digest. This was my major downfall for the book. If it was more concise I would have liked it more. If you thrive off of examples this is a great option.
This book tells you how to activate your inner core, five core energy - purpose, wisdom, growth, love and self-realisation. The book is divided into chapters accordingly. The author tells about experiences of people, their life struggles, their pathway of achieving ultimate success. These stories inspired me a lot. There's a lot to learn from their journeys. There are struggles in everyone's life and hurdles on the way to success. And success has many perspectives. One has to work on one's mind, beliefs to be successful.
The author shows experiences of five famous personalities - Abraham Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela. Not only famous figures, Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa has stated ordinary people's life stories. Readers can learn principles of success in life and leadership. And how to create outer impact from inner mastery.
The language is simple and each story is inspiring and the author has put everything together in a perfect manner despite the each topic being described elaborately. This book sure made an impact on my mind for how detailed every chapter is and how much it helped for strengthening my mind. The writing style is overall good. I liked this book very much.
Through this well researched book, the author tries to teach the reader how to grow their own self to their full potential. He tries to prove that inner and outer success do not necessary have to compete with each other.
He does so by citing the example of various well known personalities, and of a few people in his life who made an impact.
This book states that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviour are all fuelled by our energy. It sheds profound insight on how to activate the 5 core energies: -Purpose -Wisdom -Growth -Love -Self-realisation
It’s a great book, and well worth reading. I’ve highlighted numerous passages, and plan to revisit them when I need a reminder of what it takes to truly have peace of mind.
Of course there were parts which seemed repetitive, but there were plenty of things I had never heard/thought of (a few that I’ve heard of but never followed.)
Light readers, beware. This one is a heavy read and it took me quite a while to finish it. But I’ll have to say it’s a really useful book. I’d recommend it to anyone who don’t just want to succeed at everything they do, but also let their true self shine while they do so!
This book unfortunately brings very little if anything new to the table. As is a typical pattern for this kind of book, it outlines how existing approaches to teaching management are wrong (trying to teach specific area skills) and how its method is different and correct. It provides no evidence to support its new model, and applies that model to key historical figures picking where the characteristics line up.
There are some ideas in there that have merit. In general suggesting some level of self control and self mastery is good advice, and the examples from historical characters are not without value in providing examples of that. The idea of establishing a practice of daily review is positive and I think many would benefit from it.
In general though, I think this book would have been better as a series of 6 or 7 blog posts, or a book probably a quarter of the length it is. I don't regret having taken the time to read it, but I would never recommend it to someone else as there are other books that cover similar terrain, but do it better.
This book is rich with information and ideas to help you transform yourself, starting from within, so that you can proceed to lead others more effectively. It weaves stories of individuals, both famous and those known by the author, who help demonstrate the principles. I read the entire book and am now going to go back and focus on specifics that I want to put into practice, such at the Core Review, in order to make lasting changes in my life.
I found this book to evoke a reflection of my life and priorities. For me, the chapters provide a lot to pause and reflect upon. I found myself journaling as well as jotting notes and ideas while reading. The book incorporates both personal growth and leadership skills. I found myself really considering how little time we often devote to working on ourselves before attempting to lead others. This book illustrates ways to improve yourself so that you can be an exceptional leader.
I probably would not have thought to pick up this book if it had not been recommended by someone I have enormous respect for and who has excellent taste in books. I usually steer away from self-help books but this one is different (or at least different from what I imagine self-help books are like since I don't read them). For one thing, it doesn't offer any easy or simple steps to improving oneself. On the contrary, it drew attention to all the ways I am far from being my best self and made the road to improvement seem very steep and long! One thing that surprised me was how the author draws on personal experience, science, and spiritual traditions to lay out his case. And lastly, one of the things I liked the most about it were the stories of great historical figures like Gandhi, Mandela, Mother Teresa, MLK, and Eleanor Roosevelt. As different as these individuals were, they all shared an underlying equanimity...a sense of inner peace and joy that I think we all aspire to achieve.
This book is a bag full of golden nugets the author has dug through the years , taken from the lives of historical figures.Outer Impact is an uplifting read, that gives a highly practical yet transcendent path to becoming a leader.
It's an elegant rendition to hoist your inner conscience ,deep association with mind and body .it is written well enough and with the right amount of examples to keep it engaging.Too often we have huge blind spots in our life and don’t ever really take an honest look at ourself. This book is extremely consumable and after you’re done, you might decide to see where you can change.

Inner Mastery, Outer Impact provides a comprehensive framework for realising the potential within ourselves, and producing meaningful change in the world. Wadhwa grounds his argument in a strong theoretical framework informed by psychology, history, and spirituality, among other fields, to demonstrate that we all posses a fundamental potential, an Inner Core.
Wadhwa also provides a variety of valuable practical tools that we can use to harness this potential, and translate it into an Outer Impact.
Inner Master, Outer Impact is an exquisite blend of the personal with the universal, the scientific with the spiritual, and the inner with the outer. Its distinctly interdisciplinary focus makes it a book of great value to a great any fields, as well as to anyone wishing to learn more about the potential within themselves.
Hitendra does a beautiful job weaving inspirational stories of great historical figures with the 5 core energies (purpose, wisdom, growth, love, and self-realization) required for inner mastery and outer impact. He asserts that our inner core is free of ego, reflects our purest self, and is our space of highest potential, and that mastering our inner core by developing the 5 energies provides us the freedom and capability to be outwardly successful. Furthermore, while our outer pursuits may be fluid over our lifetimes, our inner core is steady and based on our values. For each energy, Hitendra defines the progression of each leveraging multiple illuminating examples from his students.
I enjoyed this and was inspired to restart a mediation practice based on the examples and benefits described in the book.
