In 1830, when 10-year-old Jonah Blue's mother commits suicide rather than face another day of life with Jonah's abusive father, he flees the family's Missouri farms to pursue his dream of becoming a Rocky Mountain Free Trapper.
Jonah is befriended by an older Mountain Man named Rensfeld Doggett who starts the boy on the trail to realizing his dreams and making the transition from young boy to young man and eventually a man in the wilds of the Montana Territory in 1853.
Fascinating and engaging. The story really picks up sharply by the 45% mark and is hard to put down after that. Sadly it took me a bit to get into due to not being able to read more than 5 minutes every other week or so but when my schedule did ease up I found myself very entertained. Also the dialogue threw me a time or two as it’s very spot on for the era but overall I could follow even if I didn’t know the word.
Meticulous detail and lots of research went into this book. The story made me think how in the world could I survive in those days? I enjoyed reading this book. If you enjoy westerns, you will love this book.
Love Jonah and his adventures from start to finish. Very engaging storyline along with his sidekick cast of characters. Enjoyed reading about Jonah's life as a kid of 10 years and how he grew into a formidable mountain man.
