Met een uitgebreide filmografie (tot en met 'Drifting Clouds'), een verhelderend voorwoord van Peter von Bagh en uiteraard, schitterende foto's van Marja-Leena Hukkanen (niet alleen stills, maar ook set foto's en portretten).

Wonderful collection of still photos from Aki Kaurismäki’s films, taken by Marja-Leena Hukkanen (who also acted as script-girl). They span from Calamari Union to Drifting Clouds, prefaced by an earnest, doting introduction by Peter von Bagh, who has written a lot about Kaurismäki. Photo captions are by the filmmaker himself, in his usual wry, self-deprecating style. Unfortunately, some of his humor is a bit confused in the English translation by Lisa Arnold.

This book is a must-see (if you can find it) for Kaurismäki aficionados, though the Pellonpää photos (and Kaurismäki's accompanying captions) will make your heart just so overwhelmingly sad.
