Re One Night of Love - Sally Wentworth brings the Tart Shaming OTT wrecki angstfest with this.

The h is an underwater recovery specialist hired by the insurance agent H to recover a safe. They fall in love on a ship during deep ocean submersible dives. Then H finds out that the h was the OW in a triangle involving his sister, her husband and the h when he calls his mum after his and the h's First Big Night O' Love.

The H's mother knew the h's name because she hired a detective to track her pregger daughter's wayward hubby. When the cheating hubby was exposed, the H's sister had a miscarriage and then tried to commit suicide and is now in a mental hospital.

The cheating hubby lied and said the h seduced him after he was robbed and she gave him a place to stay, then claims the h threw a huge fit and threatened the H's sister when the cheatin' hubby tried to break things off.

The H has never actually talked to the cheatin' hubby himself, he just got this as hearsay from his mother.

The h had no clue that her boyfriend, who became her fiance, was married until she started making wedding plans and the guy reluctantly confessed. When the h found out, she dumped the slime swiller hard and kicked him to the curb.

The H doesn't want to hear the h's side tho, so bullying, verbal abuse and tart shaming periods are scheduled every hour on the hour with some attempted rape thrown in cause this H is going to punish the trampy tarty h for her sins.

This is causing problems with the ship's crew cause the H's treatment of the h after she slept with him seems to mean that a lot of them can become berating handsy snot pustules themselves. So the H's actions have done a lot of damage to her work relationships as the men have lost respect for her.

Finally after many ugly H slime swiller snot pustule moments, it is pointed out to the H by the ship's captain, (who is pimping the h to the H for all he is worth because the H let him win at arm wrestling to keep the crews respect,) that the sister's husband dated the h for months and then engaged himself to h, never told her he was married and when the h found out, she dumped him right away.

The H now wants to talk to the h and take up where they left off, but the h is all business as the safe has been recovered from the shipwreck and now just needs to be inventoried and put ashore. So the H and the ship's captain conspire to lock the h into the safe with the H so she has to listen to him.

There is a big H love confession and the H tries to put his slime scarfer behavior down to irrational jealousy over his ex brother in law sleeping with the h before he met her. The h still doesn't want to hear it, so the H roofie kisses her until she claims to love him and we leave them locked in the safe and planning a wedding for the HEA.

This book is long on drama and h angst and has no H grovel for his actions. The beginning build up to the big night o' love is fairly well done, but after the tart shaming is over the book only has two pages left and it is just not enough to make up for the H's actions.

I kinda believe that the h just went along with the H's big declaration and agreed to marry the H because she was locked on a ship in the middle of the ocean with a full pimp-out-the-h crew.

I am pretty sure that as soon as the h made shore, she took off from the H, dumped her job and none of the other characters in this book ever saw her again for a more believable HEA and a pretty bad way to end an HP outing.

One minute, he is avowing eternal love and taking her to bed. The next, based on hearsay, and without giving her the chance to give her side or even know what she is being accused of, he is calling her a slut, tramp and bitch at every turn, and humiliating her at her place of work. No grovel either. I don't call locking her forcibly in a room and then whining that he was only so insulting because HE was butt hurt by the insinuations against her a proper apology let alone a grovel. This miserable bag of excrement is no hero.

In Sally Wentworth`s "One Night of Love" we watch the incredible love-story of the brooding business man Oliver Balfour and the professional Lady Captain Dyan Logan fall in love through the journey over the sea.

I really don`t get why the reviewers gave this book such negative ratings,Alright..i know the hero really treats the heroine like shit after the second part of the story, but when i then remember how the heroines in Sally`s books treated the heroes in "Judas Kiss" and "Passionate Revenge"..i didn`t take it that bad with this one.

But i enjoy the chemistry between Oliver and Dainy,i adored their conversations and the blistering raw passion between them.Sally writes really HOT sex-scenes without writing it too graphic..LOVE IT!

TRIGGER WARNING: The gist of this story is that mid-twenties oceanographer meets early thirties insurance guy. She’s been burned and he’s intrigued by her but doesn’t know why. He finds out chick’s big bad secret and proceeds to treat her like crap. I mean he’s abusive and attempts to rape her through coercion. I will give the author credit for accurately describing what it feels like to have your body react with pleasure to stimulation while your mind and emotions are screaming no loud as hell. It was violating. It’s been a really long time since I read a harlequin romance novel that promoted abuse and coercive rape, but you always have to be careful when reading Harlequin/Silhoutte novels pre-1998ish. Novels from before 1998ish, are full of such asshatery that one must beware. This novel just reminded me that we (as a society) need to be able to teach women that any one, male, female or anywhere in-between should not treat you like you don’t deserve to exist then call it love. No matter how angry or hurt the love of your life becomes with you, it does not excuse mental, emotional, or physical abusive behavior. We also need to let men, women and everyone in-between know that expressing anger and hurt through abusive behavior is not acceptable. If you are angry or hurt abusive retaliation is not the answer. It is never the answer and this story just reinforced that. The lovely heroine goes back to him in spite of how abysmally he’s treated her. For some reason, I truly thought that the heroine would stick to her guns and find someone else who would at least ask her for her perspective instead of assuming that she’s a slut. Seriously this novel was major WTF!

I loved how the the hero fell in love with the heroine. There is just something about a hero who can't keep his feelings in check. Of course, something came along to throw a monkey wrench into the fresh love affair.

things you may or may not like about this book:
1. Heroine has a real job and went to a top university
2. Book takes place primarily on a ship.
3. This book has a keeping it in the family element.

Sally Wentworth sucks you into the story that you are left realing when the story takes 360 turn when the hero turns Jekyll and Hyde. One minute the gentlemen next a cruel cold bastard who is borderline abusive. It was scary at times I thought he was going to beat up but you got to love the crew members sticking up for her and going around to beat him up. Gripping and I liked that the Dylan was oceanographer it was different!

I gave this 2 stars simply due to the fact that it took place on a salvage ship, which was a more interesting setting than most of these books. It should be a 1 1/2 though. This started out as a classic example of a Harlequin book from the 80's, which sometimes is a great thing but more often a somewhat disastrous experience. It was common then that the H would say pretty despicable things, especially if the h was not a virgin. The way Oliver was written was pretty silly in general. I don't know any man who says things such as "Oh, my dear! Can you still not forgive me?". The answer to that by the way, is no, she should have walked away. The emotional and verbal abuse heaped upon her was awful. It went on and on and on and it was resolved with a whimper, not a bang. I hate when they have what starts out as a kick-ass career girl, highly educated and brilliant at her job and that just dribbles into nothing once she meets the H. She way by far much more interesting than he was and she could have done better. This should have been a DNF, but somehow I always have to know the ending.

What the F?! The hero was IRREDEEMABLE!!! Like I don't want the awesome, super capable, adventurous heroine with this turd of a person. I liked the crew, her job. Why this loser hero is here I have no idea AND if they are going to 'be together' how the heck is that going to work? She is on the high seas finding sunken ships, what the crap does he do? No idea cause he is crap. We are also supposed to be invested in this mom/sister/loser brother in law we never meet. I only wanted an epilogue where the loser hero does go after the brother in law like he should have FROM THE START, how did he wind up on this expedition?! Ugh skip, not a fun time and you don't want the ending cause the heroine has been jerked around by two guys back to back! Let her go on with her badass life! There is a hot pirate out there waiting for her, not this jerk loser face.

The h has slept with the H’s brother in law. I find that a bit yucky. A bit too Bold and the Beautiful.

The h says she is not that kind of woman to sleep with a man after a few nights, but she did do that with the H and with the H’s brother in law. Just another woman who tries to portray herself as a saint.

After the H finds out the h had slept with his brother in law, he calls her a cheap slut.

At the end she forgives him too easy for the name calling. She should have let him sweat a little.

Read this before finding goodreads. It’s bad, H is incredibly awful, insulting and does his best to destroy h’s professional standing. No gravel and his apology was a whinefest of self pity. DNF the second read once I recognized the story.

Hard to believe this is from Sally Wentworth who usually manages to redeem her rotten Hs.
