'விக்ரம்' என்ற பெயரில் கமல்ஹாசன் நடிப்பில் உருவான சினிமாவுக்காகவென்றே எழுதப்பட்ட இந்தக் கதை திரைப்படமாக உருவாகும்போதே ஷூட்டிங் புகைப்படங்களுடன் குமுதத்தில் தொடர்கதையாகவும் வந்து ஹிட் ஆனது.

About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

I read again only for Kamalhasan recent movie release - VIKRAM (2022) - a sequel of vikram (1986) based on this novel. Happy to see a sequel of old movie with same actor directed by his fanboy Lokesh :)

சுஜாதா (Thriller) நாவல் என்றாலே அதில் ஒரு விறுவிறுப்பு இருக்கும்!.
Indian Intelligence Agent /Government External Intelligence Operative விக்ரம், கடத்தப்பட்ட "Agniputra" என்ற Ballistic Missile ஐ எப்படி வில்லனிடம் இருந்து கைப்பற்றுகிறார் என்பதை அருமையான திரைக்கதையோடு அமைத்திருக்கிறார்.
உலகநாயகன் நடிப்பில் வெளிவந்த "விக்ரம்" - A Spy Action Thriller படம் தமிழில் ஒரு "JAMES BOND" என்றே கூறலாம்.

Whenever I finish a Novel written by Sujatha the characters, the names, places and narration stay in my head for long, but for some reason, I'm unable to digest that this novel "Vikram" is very bad on paper.
As a movie it was great and it is really hard for me to not compare this book with the Movie as they are intertwined.It was like reading a bad bollywoodish type movie from Sujatha which I was not ready for. I didn't like the book for its sloppy narration and detailing.
A short and unenjoyable read for me.

Easily, one of Sujatha's lamest work.

As it was written for a film and then serialised as it, you could easily see the filmy narrative built around the core concept of stealing a missile.
Whatever worked in the film, making it a commercial entertainer, doesn't work when done exactly as it is, in words.

A great attempt at giving a sci-fi thriller in the 80s!
But it felt mediocre at best, reading it now in 2023. The most irritating part was having to read too many English words in Tamil. It was truly a bit of a struggle.

Nice one from Sujatha. I am amazed with the way the author has written a novel, with the context much ahead of time.

The potrayal of the lead character and the fictional nation requires a special mention.
