This was one of the better Hauntings books. I liked that it was s et in Scotland, and the ghost part did not take up too much of the story. A nice quick read.

First, Wolf at the Window is by Ben M.Baglio illustrations by Ann Baum. The genre of this story is fiction. The characters are Mandy, James, and a boy named Cameron. Mandy and James go to Scotland. Then, they go to a wildlife park to see two new cubs. Some people are scared of them and want them to go away. So, Mandy, James, and Cameron go into the forest to save them. Will they get there in time or will it be too late?
Second, I like this book because it has wolfs and I love animals. My favorite part of the book is when they go into the forest to try and save them. The theme of the book is “hard work pays off” and “choices in life have consequences for you and others”. I think people that like a little adventure and mystery would like to read this book. Mandy is very adventurous because she will do anything for wildlife. James is sweet but also very worrisome because he cares for Mandy but he also does not want her to try to help the wolfs. Cameron is also very adventurous because he helps Mandy look for the wolfs. I think that this book should be read by a lot or all the people that like adventure and mystery.

The only thing spooky about this book is the hatred people have towards wolves. As a ghost story, it's lame. This could've made a just ducky Animal Ark book without the need to stick in a ghost. The ghost plays a very small part in the book, written by Tanis Jordan. Offhand, I can't remember any other books in the Animal Ark Universe written by her.

Again, the Hopes are on vacation, with James and Blackie. Just ... incredible ... the lack of creativity and common sense here. There's an animal shelter getting two wolves in, and the natives are restless.

There's a nice message about conservation, and a potentially great lesson about how people suck, but this gets drowned in stupid ghost crap. It's just such an embarrassing departure from Animal Ark, Animal Ark Pets and Little Animal Ark.

I read this only about 18 months ago, and forgot all about it. Shows you how memorable this book is. I had to skim it quickly before this review. At least Ann Baum didn't let me down. She did an especially good drawing of Blackie in here.

My 8 year old daughter loves to bring home Animal Ark books from the library. This is the first one we have read from the "Haunting" series. The spookiness level of this story is great for kids who are not into anything scary.
The overall message of the story is protecting wildlife, specifically captive wolves in Scotland. Since I live in the United States, I know nothing about the history of wolves in Scotland.
I think the main character, Mandy, is a bit reckless but her behavior makes this more of an adventure story. I don't think many young kids would go on vacation to a foreign country and end up running off into the forest at night without flashlights, particularly when there could be wild animals, poacher's traps, and men with guns who are on a mission to shoot some wolves.
I would say it's my favorite Animal Ark book so far, and one I know I would have thoroughly enjoyed when I was a young reader.

I enjoy the Animal Ark books, which I've read off and on for years to the kids. Poor old Iz got a shock when she realised this one is a ghost story - that will teach her to read the cover more carefully - but it is a gentle one, not too scary, though with a number of tense moments that had her biting her nails.

Set on the Scottish mainland this novel is based around the potential reintroduction of wolves to designated parts of the country. The story deals with both sides of the argument, but the Ark books are designed to teach children about both domestic animals and wildlife and to debunk myths, and so of course it leans more towards the positive aspects of re-introduction. Izzie warmed to the characters, Mandy and James, and particularly towards the animals - the dogs, wolves, and even the wild cat that makes an appearance. She really enjoyed reading about Scotland too, though she's relieved that they won't be reintroducing wolves round these parts any time soon :)

I'd recommend for ages 8 and up.
