Alek likes to tie up women. As a rigger, he’s into the aesthetics of bondage—the pattern of rope against skin, the marks left in tender flesh—but he also likes the high of being in control and, yeah, it turns him on. When Alek needs a model to complete the photographs for his book on rope bondage, he asks his friend Shaela.

Shaela has known Alek since high school, and while she disapproves of his kinky sexual habits, he’s a friend and she agrees to help. She’s not prepared for the experience of being tied up. Being bound and helpless releases her from her everyday problems—her slave-driver boss, her unsatisfying career and her derogatory father. She’s also helplessly aroused.

So is Alek. He sees how Shaela loves being bound, even though she doesn’t want to admit it, and proposes they explore it together. Intrigued but nervous, Shaela agrees. Neither of them expects to learn the things they do about each other—and about themselves. And neither of them expects to.

I picked out this book because of the title, not realizing that it was something other than what I was anticipating. It was a good surprise. The characters are old friends with a foundation for their future experiences together. I have zero personal experience with bondage so one thing that is always hard to gauge going into a book like this is if the content will be uncomfortable to read. It isn't. The hero explains that what he is doing is a specific style of bondage. It's about connection and vulnerability, and in the end he learns it's also a spiritual journey. This is more than just two characters tying each other up figuratively and literally to bump it horizontally - or any other way you can align it. There's a story there about their lives, about their past, and their future.

The one thing that was a little uncomfortable was that at one point the couple encouraged voyeurism. I'm not a fan of it, but it was believable and comfortable within the context of the story. I honestly forgot all about it by the end of the story because the rest of the story was that great.

A really great read.

Loved this. Very sweet friends-to-lovers story. I see other reviewers have mentioned the voyeur/exhibition scene in a negative manner. But Alek found a way to bring Shaela's deepest fantasy to reality...and it was beautiful and tasteful. It brought back warm and fuzzy way-back memories of my own, so of course I loved that scene.

All the Shibari ropework was fascinating to me and I wanted to trade places with Shaela more than once!

This is my first book from this author, and it will not be the last! I must admit though...everytime Alek said or thought something along the lines of Jesus f-ing this or that, I cringed a little. Eeep! That could have been toned down.

Rigger

The story line in the beginning of the story was very interesting right from the first chapter and several after. Then slowly, the story seemed to change away from the topic of the story, winding back at points here and there, turning dark for some ungodly reason. Then back to the heart of the story. All in all it was a decent story, just not what I was expecting. Needs some serious editing.

This story is worth every star. It will take you on the journey you never thought you would go on. The one where you learn not to be judgmental of what you have never tried and never understood before reading this

The author describes the art of shibari with such love, care and sensuality. However, for me, the same care was not extended to the characters and I felt no connection to them or their love story when the ropes came off.
