Since the death of his mate, Artemis Gray has desired no other to take her place. Then Moira Archer, a human, enters his life. Her rich, earthy scent, combined with the perfume she wears, entices him. The werewolf in his soul awakens and howls in triumph—"Mine!"
just bought this one for $2.49 from ellora's cave- #support Judy Mays!
After everything that has happened this week surrounding English teacher Judy Mays, of course I bought one of her books. For those of you who don't know, she is an English teacher in PA who was "outed" as an erotica author. A couple of parents who had nothing better to do called in local newstation WNEP who made her writing career out to be on the same level as a pedophile. (not kidding)
Moving on to the actual story, this is the first novella in her Heat series. Artemis Gray is an alpha werewolf still in his prime, even though he has grown children. He runs a men's cologne company and wants to expand into women's perfumes.
The deal he has in the works with a leading women's perfume company falls through the instant he scents the owner-Sylvia James was wearing a perfume using animal musk. Not only does that lose her the deal, she loses her assistant Moira as well.
Artemis recognizes Moira as his mate, even though his son and he almost fought over her for a second there, but after a tense stand-off his son backed down. Artemis and Moira leave together, but he moves a little too fast for her. Nope, not the sex, she's way into that *wink wink* but he instantly asks her to marry him, be his mate, and shows her his wolfy side. Then he orders her to submit. Now we 21st century women might enjoy her reaction (and where she told him to go), but Artemis didn't. His son and daughter barged in to explain she needs time.
But, don't forget Sylvia....she's quite vindictive and wants Moira back. See, Moira's not just her assistant, she also has made the last 7 years' worth of perfumes for her company. And even if Sylvia has to threaten Moira's poor ill grandfather, she will. But Moira mistakes the threat as coming from the Big Bad Wolf, not the Big Bad Bitch.
It's a fun and thrilling novella with a bit of wolfy lust.
My favorite quote: "Only a fool would lay his hands on the mate of a werewolf." Moira's granddad was a wise man.
I will be looking for the rest of the Heat series from Judy Mays.
This had so much potential and it really hit the mark about 60% of the time. I think the only reason it missed 40% is because of the length. If Judy Mays had stretched her legs here, this could have been a 5 star novella or full length book. As it is, there just wasn't enough time for certain things to feel justified or reasonable. I still enjoyed it, but I'm kinda sad that this author's interesting concepts are wastedsquandered used on an Ellora's Cave Quickie and not fleshed out in a longer book.
This is probably my fourth time reading this book. I find it a fun light-hearted but entertaining read with likable characters. Short in length so lacks a lot of background information but for some reason this does not detract from the overall story. I am still waiting many, many years later for Ms Mays to write the final book in this series, which is Brendon's, the son we meet in this book. These books no longer seem to be available as they were first out with Ellora's Cave which has been long gone from the publishing scene. Hope fully they will once again see the light of day, maybe in Kindle Unlimited even. My previous reviews are missing but I will review once again as I am in the mood to read these again.
✨RATING 7.5/10 or 3.5/5 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♡♡+.゚(→ε←*)゚+.゚
INSTA LOVE - and Alpha Guy.
Pretty good for a super quick erotic read. Alpha shifter Artemis realizes Human Moira is his mate the minute he catches her scent at a party thrown by her bitchy boss.
She's attracted to him too and hot sex in a limo ensues.
All the action in this book takes place in less than 24 hours but it is an entertaining and sexy read.
Li com facilidade, e apesar de ser um bocado previsível e meter algumas gafes (Senhora Judi Mays. Uma gravidez NÃO é instantânea. Lamento dizer, mas não é "wham bam thankyou ma'am olá, tou grávida". Demora vários dias a ocorrer a fertilização, sim?
"Come to me" - I think that was the moment I realized this story was probably not for me. So...about 3 pages in? Sounds about right. Also the whole "there's a wolf interested in me so of course I'm gonna find out I'm not totally human either" trope. And the so-called conflict wasn't any better either. Kidnapping, really? And I absolutely love when independent heroines turn suddenly into crying maidens when danger arises. Not. And if we're talking clichés...what's another one? Just add a pregnancy too. This story managed to catch'em all and I was not impressed.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Fun little story - wasn't expecting the werewolf angle, but it made for an interesting take on this which was highly sensual from the olfactory sense. I would have liked a little more strength/initiative from the lead female character, but the male character was so hot I didn't care THAT much. I'd make room for his pelt on my bed, anytime.
Apparently, my reading tastes have changed. I really don't understand how I liked this. Everything happened so quickly and there was no spark between any of the characters.
I read this book to #supportjudymays. I enjoyed the perfume business angle of the book. Reminded me of my days working for Estee Lauder. It was short as romantica can be which was okay except that I wanted the romance to build a little more than it did before being over.
Paranormal romance that was a bit campy. I liked this story. I laughed at some of the dialogue but overall enjoyed reading it. I'll look into reading more of this author's work.
