I thought the story was interesting and the characters had potential but the short length left it feeling underdeveloped. The dialogue and prose was not my style, not because it was dirty but because it was awkward and not sexy. The sex scenes were hot if you could get past the word choices, but overall, I just kept wishing it would live up to its potential. It seemed like it needed another couple of rounds of editing.
Huh. Okay. So the sex was fun and just a wee bit dirty. I was more of a fan of the sex than the rest of the book (the dialogue struck me as a little awkward as did some of the descriptions). Steele sure did like getting balls deep in Marla's pleasure hole. *thumbs up*
Steele was a free Kindle book I downloaded on September 12, 2012 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
I picked this up as a freebie last year but never got around to reading it until today. It's a short story at 56 pages and easily read in an hour or so.
Steele is a gentle giant - literally at 6'10 - a former underground fighter with an amazing ability to withstand pain and damage to his body. He now works for a secret government agency helping put away the bad element of society. Marla is a woman who fell into a year long coma and awoke with an unnatural ability to control electricity. She is working with the same agency to find out what happened to her and how to control it when she meets Steele. That's pretty much the entire plot.
As erotica goes, I've read better, but this isn't bad. The dialog left a bit to be desired but for a freebie read I can't complain. I did think his unnatural height was unnecessary though. While Marla's height was never mentioned, it only stands to reason that with the average female standing around 5'5, their "interactions" would seem awkward. 2.5 stars
This was another of the two week free promo from Ellora's Cave. I really like this story. But it was just too damn short. I liked the basis behind the story. I loved Steele's character. I would have loved to know more about him and what he was feeling. Marla was a ok character. Their is a lot less that we know about her than we know about Steele. And that is not a whole lot. I would have loved for this to be a whole novel. It had the potential to be novel and to be great. But as it is written it is a really really short short story. I mean it took me less than an hour to read. Their was no character development and it was sooo rush. Though I will say that the sex scenes between these two were way BEYOND HOT!!! I mean, seriously, I need a ice cold drink. It got hot up in here. lol.
Seriously though, it was really good if you don't mind seriously short reads.
This book was OK to begin with and then got a trifle ridiculous. I had trouble with some of the author's descriptions of things and actions. She describes Steele's hand at some point as being so large that in rubbing Marla's back it nearly spanned the length of it. He is supposed to be 6 ft 10 not some gigantic monstrosity which is what this brings to mind. I couldn't stand the use of the word 'diddled' when applied to the act of rubbing (intimate) and I laughed out loud when I read the sentence '...thrusting his turgid length deep into the wet heat of her pleasure hole.' Really? Just too silly for words in places which reduced the enjoyment for me.
Interesting world, the sex was dirty enough to make me giggle. I wouldn't have minded a little more character development but (as I often say) due to the length, I can understand them getting down to the sexin' pretty quickly.
This book was a free Kindle download I picked up 09/11/12 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
I wish I could rate this story higher. The beginning plot grabbed my attention but the second half sort of fizzled. It is a short and the beginning of a series so I can allow for that but I've read other short stories by established authors that I enjoyed. Still, if I can borrow another book in the series or get it very cheap I will give it a try.
Romantic, Sensual and Really Catchy! If you Start you can't stop reading! With this book you really feel bad about you... why aren't us so perfect than Steele... all he do is perfect ;)
