The Eagles: Flying High

Rate this book
The Eagles have enjoyed colossal success spanning three decades. They are a remarkable mesh of lyrical and musical talent, twined with an explosive blend of personalities. They are a group of individually diverse and vivid characters - something which played a crucial part in propelling them to global success but has also led to bitter personality clashes, paranoia and tension, leaving them at bitter odds with one another, burned out and depressed at the start of the 1980s. The Eagles have one of the most fascinating sex, drugs and rock and roll stories that there is. At their decadent height, they enjoyed an insatiable appetite for drugs and groupies, and threw some of the wildest parties in the business. Laura Jackson follows their fascinating story from the early '70s when they established an immediately identifiable sound that was unique to them, through their career and personal highs and lows, to their break up in 1982 and their eventual reform in 1994. The Flying High provides a definitive insight into one of the best selling bands in recording history.

Excellent peek into what being a rock star entails, and the basis on how they formed the Eagles

I've read a lot of biographies of the Eagles but this is way up among the best. It is not simply a conglomeration/rehash of the same old stories but has a good quanitity of quotes and anecdotes that I haven't seen anywhere else before.
The only minor disappointments were the small number of photos, although, again, most of what there were are new to me. The other slight gripe was the lack of referencing, it isn;t always possible to guess who said what - but maybe that was the whole point!
Highly recommended

Being a huge Eagles fan this was a brilliant insight into every member of the band especially Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The duo’s strengths and weaknesses and their long lasting friendship is just brilliant. The stories behind some of their classic hits, the highs and lows they faced and ultimately the big reunion is so well written. A very good biography on one of the biggest rock groups in the history of music. A must read if you’re an Eagles or a rock n roll fan.
