You are cordially invited. . . . Don’t miss amateur detective Carnegie Kincaid, expert in all things matrimony and murder, in the Hallmark original movie Wedding Planner Mystery on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries!
IT WAS A WEDDING NO ONE WOULD FORGET . . .
Luke Skywalker was juggling martini glasses. Albert Einstein was dirty-dancing with Monica Lewinsky. And Zorro was arguing with Death himself. For wedding planner Carnegie Kincaid, it was just another night on the job: a coed bachelor party thrown by one of Seattle’s hippest couples—the bride-to-be a hard-charging Microsoft millionaire, the groom a Seattle Sentinel news editor.
But what started as the perfect evening for the young, handsome, and politically correct ended in disaster. One beautiful bridesmaid was dead, and another had thrown herself into Elliott Bay. Now Carnegie has more than a cutting-edge wedding to save. All around her, secret liaisons are unraveling, dangerous decisions are coming to light, and at least one criminal is lurking. With families to please, dresses to hem, and headlines to grab, Carnegie is discovering the dark side of love and marriage amid high and low Seattle society—and that while some passions may be forever, some are a motive for murder.
Despite the somewhat contrived circumstances at times, the characters and stories are interesting enough (for a “fluff” read) that I enjoyed this book. I am not overly enamoured with Carnegie’s love interest Aaron, as he seems a bit too pouty to waste time on, but the cliff hanger at the end makes me want to read the next book.
Apparently I have read this before. I didn't remember the book (and have been looking for it for years in order to read it), but once into it, I did remember the Buckmeisters. No one can forget the Buckmeisters. A fun read, but not 4-star worthy.
I read this book because it is listed on some cozy mystery lists as a Christmas mystery, but it has nothing about Christmas. Events take place in October. Wedding planner Carnegie Kincaid works on the wedding of two staffers of the Seattle Sentinel newspaper. At a Halloween costume party two women are pushed into a lake and one dies. Turns out she was having an affair with the publisher. The other woman was also having an affair with the same guy. Difficult to follow because author names every character in the story - a total of 53 - from minor insignificant ones to the major players. Unless you are able to keep track of everyone you will get lost. I am used to authors naming the major and supporting characters in the story, and I assume the ones who are named play a part in the story line, but this book goes as far as to name the pet snake of an insignificant character, which has nothing to do with the story. The over abundance of names is an irritant as well as a major turn off.
Carnegie Kincaid owns Made in Heaven Wedding Designs. The lavish wedding of a Microsoft executive and a newspaper editor could become the death of her. Their Halloween engagement party at the Seattle Aquarium ends up being a murder scene when one bridesmaid is murdered and another is pushed or jumps into the bay. The masked party hides the murderer and so begins Carnegie's investigation. Strong characters with good dialogue help to keep this book going. I would read the next one in the series.
Carnegie Kincaid is a wedding consultant who struggles to stay in business, especially when bodies are discovered at her events. In this novel, Carnegie attempts to navigate man problems while she looks for the connection between a woman attacked by a man in a dark cape and another woman slain under mysterious circumstances--at the same party. One wonders why the police aren't on the same page.
Seattle's EMP venue, which I had never heard of, is one of the main characters in this book and certainly the most colorful. Recommended, especially if you want to hear about the gritty details needed to pull off a fairytale wedding. Not that I recommend one, if price of the affair tends to be in inverse proportion to length of the relationship.
These books may not be the best books ever written, but I love this series! The main character is a wedding planner. Every book, someone related to the wedding is mudered. Yikes! They are fun, easy reads. Female detective story.
Another of the Carnegie Kincaid, wedding planner series. Books are just light reading but are too theme repetitive: she plans a big splashy wedding, people start dieing and Carnegie gets involved and gets into danger and then saves the day. I am becoming jaded and shouldn't be so picky!!
Donnelly is building the characters in her novel slowly, but this was an enjoyable read. I was irritated by the cliffhanger the book ended on and my library doesn't have the 3rd one so I'm not sure what I will do yet.
It's been awhile since I've read this cozy series. So I'm glad to be happy to return to it and enjoy it once again. Good drama, plenty of action and nice interwoven mystery.
This is a great series. I like the characters, setting, and plot, and especially the pace of the book. It keeps the reader turning pages to find out who the killer is. Definitely a good read!
