The Adolescent Psychotherapy Treatment Planner, Fourth Ediiton provides treatment planning guidelines and an array of pre-written treatment plan components for behavioral and psychological problems, including anger management, blended family conflicts, low self-esteem, chemical dependence, eating disorders, and sexual acting out. Clinicians with adolescent clients will find this up-to-date revision an invaluable resource.
This is so helpful for treatment planning. It really step by step and so easy to follow. You can take and leave some of the information that is presented, but it is evidence-based. Love the fact that is is not only DSM diagnosis, but they propose treatment for low self-esteem and even for divorce reaction. This is definitely my bible in treatment planning for teens.
Technically I didn't "read" this book it is a reference book but I read the intro and I've begun using it and it is wonderful. Maybe one day I'll have read every page but for now I will consider it "read"
This is a good resource to look over when you begin your career as a therapist. However, don't think of this as your treatment planning bible. This book will give you some ideas and some of the clinical terminology, but ideally you're going to want to be writing your treatment goals WITH your client. I have my adolescent clients come sit next to me so that we can discuss what we're going to work on. I write out the treatment plan with them so they feel as if they have more of a part in the process. I bring in their parents after we're done and I have the adolescent help explain the treatment plan to their parents.
These treatment planners are really good value when working with children, adolescents and families. Each one clearly outlines the diagnostic criteria, treatment goals and evidence-based intervention idea's for each of the goals. Extremely useful when recording information or reporting to other professions. Well worth purchasing. The companion Progress Notes are also extremely good value.
