Just before sunset, a tiny turtle emerges alone from the sand. He immediately realises something important is missing. His shell! While investigating himself, he catches sight of the sparkling sea and longs to go to it, but first, he must find his shell.
While trying not to get eaten, he finds himself explaining his predicament to a peckish pelican, a slippery seal, a burrowing beach mouse, and a huffy hermit crab, who teaches him how to find a new shell.
With the support of his unlikely new friends, the tiny turtle makes his way to the sea with a new shell and dives into the breaking waves.
Soon after, the tiny turtle answers a call for help from a shell-less slimy sea snail clinging to a rock. The tiny turtle plucks the sea snail from the rock and tucks him into his new shell, telling him not to worry, he knows exactly what to do about the sea snail's predicament.

A tiny turtle pops out of the sand one morning on the beach only to ask, “Where’s my shell?” He’s all alone in the world, and wonders if anyone will help him. This is how, this journey of a tiny turtle begins. Along the way in his search, the tiny turtle meets new friends who all have ideas. The problem is that none of these ideas are a solution for the tiny turtle.
I enjoyed reading this simple, but charming story. It is a tale of friendships, meeting new friends, inspiring creativity & ideas, team working, and problem-solving skills. Not only has the author written an entertaining story that children will love, but she also has illustrated this in water colours, which makes the book visually appealing.
‘Where’s My Shell?’ is beautifully written, with no errors that would distract or pull the reader out of the story. We therefore award 5 stars.
I send my thanks to Leah Ingledew, author and illustrator and to Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Where's My Shell? that I won in the Giveaway.
The plot is about a tiny turtle that has no shell and how other sea animals try to help him find one as they make friends. The hermit crab has the solution and the tiny turtle goes to the sea where he wants to be. He finds a sea snail and helps him and the story ends rather up in the air to me and the child I read it to asked where did he turtle go with the crab at the end of the story.
I loved the illustrations; they were bright colorful land very cute.
This is a great children's book due to the message. It focuses on helping others and building friendships to become your true self to get to where you need to go in life.
Turtle makes new friends after losing his shell. Even in his woe of losing his shell, turtle learns that friends come in all shapes and sizes, and can help you in your darkest times.
I won this book in a giveaway. I thought it was very cute but my 3 year old wasn't into it. It could possibly be because it was in e ebook form--I'm not sure. A couple of pages couldn't hold the attention of my 3 year old when it got too wordy--I wish the wording amount was more consistent on each page. However, VERY cute.
