In this magical and poetic picture book, a father and child see all the wonders and connections in nature and in life as they go about their day.
From a seed to a plant, from an egg to a chick, from a caterpillar to a butterfly, a child and father observe the cycles of nature and come to see that as each journey ends, new adventures begin.
A reminder that ends don't always have to be bad. Your perception of the new beginning can help with the transition. The illustrations are so unique in their coloring as well. This is a short and sweet read.
This book is just so quotable! My favorite perhaps is "Where sunrise ends, pancakes begin." It is chiefly about perspective - truly, it personifies the old adage 'Where one door closes, another opens'. I couldn't tell if the characters were Jewish or not (the father looks like a rabbi and appears to be wearing a yarmulke), but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. Regardless, this story is very sing-songy in the best way, and the illustrations are basically curlicue tendrils. Love love love this!
Beginnings are all around us and where one thing ends ... something always begins. A great picture book that lyrical and thought provoking. It gets your brain to make connections. A wonderful book to use as a jumping point for activities in writing.
Note: A Father and child are the main characters in this picture book.
I absolutely love this book. The concept is new and off beat & certainly a great perspective for little ones to ponder. The illustrations are so lush and vibrant, without a doubt will keep the attention of those listening. I will surely be putting a copy on my children’s shelf.
Wow, this is one of my favorite picture books of the year. Okay, I haven't read that many picture books yet this year, but it is fabulous. Lets begin with the Marc Chagall-like artwork of Melissa Castrillón, an English-Columbian illustrator, who depicts the love of a father and daughter for each other beautifully. Okay, the title is not that engaging or original, but the writing very much is engaging and original!
The end of a seed is the beginning of a flower. The end of an egg is the beginning of a chick.
So that's kind of predictable, expected. But then they begin to riff off that simple birth premise:
When a sunrise ends, pancakes begin! The end of alone is the beginning of together. When a sunset ends, starlight begins. When this story ends, your story begins.
Yes, it ends with bedtime and dreams, as many picture books do, but I really liked the father-daughetr love and the swirling fantasy/love artwork.
As each journey ends new adventures begin. Where will you go? What will you be?
This is a gorgeous picture book that highlights all the wonderful things that can begin when another thing ends. Beautiful sentiments, highlighted by beautiful artwork by Melissa Castrillon.
Gorgeous maize, purple and misty blue illustrations invite readers to experience the world's ends and beginnings. The day ends, night begins; a peach seed ends but a tree begins. Each lovely double-page spread shows a boy and his father enjoying a rural idyllic life on a walk, by the sea, at a park. The illustrations highlight the sense of warmth and safety the father brings to each day spent with his son.
My school's SEL/character education theme for August 2023 is "Beginnings." So yeah, I just searched that keyword to see what was out there. Jackpot. Sort of like a glowing philosophical social emotional version of White is for Blueberries (Shannon), here the end of the night means the beginning of pancakes and the end of the path means home, etc. So lovely and should launch some thoughtful discussions about perspectives and approaches to new (and former) activities and ideas.
I work at a library and this book was returned today. As I went to shelve it, I opened the cover and started reading, not being able to resist the gorgeous cover illustration. The book was beautiful throughout, both in words and illustrations. I was a little misty-eyed by the end. I am adding this book to my list of books that I want to read to my children someday.
Gorgeously illustrated artwork and somewhat repetitive text about endings and new beginnings, mostly in nature, this book is a must read. Perfect for anyone starting a new journey in life, or for a fun read aloud about life cycles. Make sure to take a peek under the book jacket. Highly recommended.
What a sweet and simple book delving into all the manifestations of the old adage that every ending leads to a new beginning. The illustrations are so colorful, cheerful, breathtaking, and alive. A great book to share with a young child feeling apprehensive about a transition.
A beautiful, sensitive. and comforting read about beginnings and endings. I love the line "So never fear an ending, little one. It's all part of living, and changing, and growing." A nice choice for transitions and changes in life.
A book about change and continuity and hope. A parent guides a child in experiencing the world. Melissa Castrillon’s illustrations portray the setting and characters with warmth, expressiveness, and a gorgeous color palette
Beautifully illustrated. Short and sweet. A reminder that the end of one thing doesn't need to be sad. It's all in how you think of it. Your brain has the power to look forward to what comes next. I want to teach my children this power.
This story is about how all part of nature are connected and how the start of everything is also the end of something else. This book would be a great story to include in my classroom to show how everything in the world is connected to each other.
Ga sengaja baca buku ini pas lagi main ke Paper Bird Fremantle. Ternyata isinya bagoooss. Pas banget pula sama aku yg lg galau sama kerjaan yg akan berakhir next month. Such a comfort feeling I got after reading this book.
A contemplation of endings seen from a different perspective. A joyful reimagining of possibilities after something ends and a reminder of the positives in the circular nature of life. Gently thought provoking while prompting a change in attitude.
A child and father observing the cycles of nature and come to see that as each journey ends, a new adventure begins in this gloriously illustrated picture book.
Father and son see how each beginning in nature which then ends, causes another new beginning. Pastel illustrations. Interesting perspective. Geared toward preschool or early elementary.
