Rate this book
From hockey insider Jim Lang comes a new volume in the nationally bestselling series of uplifting hockey stories about the everyday heroes who are breaking down barriers and shaping the future of a game they love.

In this heartfelt collection of personal hockey stories, sports broadcaster and author Jim Lang brings together the remarkable voices of hockey players, coaches, families, and fans who have overcome adversity and are championing the game they love—on and off the ice.

Read about former Humboldt Broncos defenceman Logan Boulet, whose selfless organ donation helped six Canadians and motivated almost 150,000 people to register as donors in the following weeks. Meet players like Kelly Serbu, who didn’t let his visual impairment stop him from playing hockey and is now raising awareness and funds for blind hockey programs, or Kim McCullough, who founded Total Female Hockey to empower other aspiring female players. Follow players and coaches of colour such as Jim Paek and Jason Payne who are helping to break down barriers, and the hockey parents who are working to make the game more accessible. These are the everyday heroes who are defying the odds and inspiring change.

Featuring extraordinary stories of tireless advocates and unbelievable successes, Everyday Hockey Heroes, Volume III is a celebration of the great game of hockey and the heroes—sung and unsung—found on rinks and in arenas across the country.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada for the Advance Reader’s Copy of Everyday Hockey Heroes Vol. III!

Canadian broadcaster, Jim Lang, shares the remarkable stories of hockey players, coaches, families, and fans who talk about how hockey changed their lives both on and off the ice.

The stories that resonated with me the most were that of Graham McWaters and his goal to get equipment for indigenous youth struggling to find a way to play. And the tragic story of Logan Broulet, one of the Humbolt Broncos who passed away in a horrific bus crash but helped save the lives of six individuals.

If you play the sport or not, this book is full of inspiring stories that showcase strong men and women who have had a positive impact on the sport, their communities, and so more!

I very much enjoyed reading this book, and do plan to go back and read the first two volumes!

Veteran sportscaster Jim Lang is back once again, this time without frequent collaborator Bob McKenzie, to present another volume of the Everyday Hockey Heroes series. Lang presents the story of fifteen men and women who’s selfless actions have helped to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

The stories here are uplifting and inspiring, particularly that of Graham McWaters and his drive to get equipment in the hands of indigenous youth struggling to find an entry point into the game. There’s also Kelly Serbu and his quest to make low-vision hockey more well known so visually challenged men and women could someday compete in the Paralympics. There is also Coach Kim McCullough, founder of Total Female Hockey, as she empowers women to compete and push themselves to their ultimate limit. I would be remiss not to mention the tragic story about Logan Broulet, one of the many Humbolt Broncos who passed away in a horrific bus crash a half dozen years ago as his donated organs helped save the lives of six individuals.

Everyday Hockey Heroes shows why it is so important for those both inside and outside the game of hockey to provide a helping hand to those who don’t - or can't’- always ask for help. Hopefully it inspires kindness and empathy, as that is I assume the ultimate goal with these books.

A collection of heartfelt stories about peoples' experiences with the game of hockey. It was uplifting to read about how hockey has impacted so many lives, and equally how so many people have impacted hockey for the better. The style of the book - with each story so unique from the last - does not allow it to flow easily, and I found it challenging to lock in for more than a chapter at a time.
