Oh boy, here I am again, close to weeping after finishing Dan Slott's and Mike & Laura Allred's Silver Surfer. This was my first re-read of the series since it wrapped up in 2017, but it's definitely not my last. This is, without a doubt, the best thing Dan Slott has ever written or will ever write, and Mike & Laura Allred will ever illustrate. Beautiful, heartfelt, earnest, incredibly creative and imaginative, gorgeous, perfect — this is one of, if not THE best comics I've ever read, and the best comic book Marvel have ever published, and I'm so glad that it exists in this world. It's unlike anything else out there, and packs an absolute gut-punch of a finale that rivals any other timeless story in any other medium, be it books, movies, TV or anything else. This is just an ideal self-contained piece of fiction, and oh my god I love it so so much. You'd have to be a heartless bastard to not fall in love with this book. 'Nuff said.

Hands down the best Marvel story I’ve ever read. It’s cosmic, the story spanning all of existence on an incomprehensible scale. It’s deeply imaginative in the Golden Age sense—just pure creativity—while also sweet. And it’s inevitably contemplative—what is real? What is love? What is happiness? And the artwork—chef’s kiss.

Silver Surfer by Slott & Allred Omnibus collects all thirty issues of Silver Surfer by Dan Slott and Michael Allred.

I read this in trades as they were being released but couldn't pass up this omnibus when I saw it for half price on Instocktrades.

Is this Michael Allred's best work so far? Possibly. Is this Dan Slott's best work so far? Since he's hit or miss for me, I'd say absolutely. Apart from wearing its Doctor Who influence on its sleeve and some cutesy shit at the end, this is one of my favorite runs of the past 25 years.

At its core, this run is the story of the love affair between the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood. It's a quirky, timey-wimey romance across time, space, death, and reality.

I'm going to leave it at that. It's best to go in cold, or as cold as you can with my reviews of the original trades still out there. Five out of five stars.

Aquí estoy, dispuesto a comerme mis palabras.

Much of this was good as we follow the Silver Surfer on various adventures. On one adventure he is told the most precious person to him has been captured to ensure he would fight to defend a city from attack. He angrily declares he would have defended the city anyway and demands to know who has been kidnapped. He is shocked to find the person taken into custody is a complete stranger, a woman from earth he has never met, and he has idea who she is.

He ends up rescuing her and taking her back to earth having adventures along the way and we get to see his life and adventures from her perspective. The story continues as they get to know each other and eventually the random story threads are pulled together to an amazing finish. A well written and crafted story.

This book contains an issue that won an Eisner for best single issue of the year. Honestly, I don't know which issue it was but it was likely one of the issues towards the end as the story threads were being brought together? The overall quality does deserve recognition for how good it is so I'm glad to see this level of an award for this book. :)

"Where soars the Silver Surfer.... There he must soar ... alone!" ???

Unfortunately I dropped this Omni about 1/3 of the way thru. It was fine, I just found myself not caring in the least about what was going on. It tries to be too cutsie and feels very episodic.

The art was great though as was the coloring. Great job Allreds! The writing is just too juvenile for my tastes, but hopefully I’m in the minority and most others enjoy it.

Personally I wouldn’t really recommend this one unless you want something super lighthearted.

Estoy feliz y estoy destrozada, sigo llorando a lagrimones, me siento emocionada y drenada psicológicamente.

An absolute must read. A new standard in storytelling. I knew it would have action, adventure, and humor, but I really did not expect for it to be ONE OF THE GREATEST LOVE STORIES I HAVE EVER READ. EVER ❤️

Damn it, Dan Slott, should I also be reading Spider-Man? The gap between this and Vision for best marvel title of the past few years is very thin.

A tight love story, unexplored origin story, a cosmic romp, a comedy, a romance, a tragedy. Such great characterizations. Growth, change. Consequences. Expected but nonetheless stunning work by the Allreds. I love this story. I give a lot of reviews 5’s, I’ll admit. I wish I could give this a 6.

Dan Slott gets something about this character that few writers do: Silver Surfer is basically a god. Not in the "modern pantheon" Justice League sense, but an intelligent being who can create, destroy, and bend reality on a whim. As such, stories where the Surfer spends most of his time blasting energy beams at bad guys tend to lose steam pretty quickly.

This is not that kind of story. Slott and Allred have created a fantastic counterpart for Norrin Radd in Dawn Greenwood, an earthling B&B host having the first big adventures of her life. Where it might have been easy to make him into a manic pixie spaceman, their dynamic is more complex, showing how each character has a lot of valuable things to teach the other. I was impressed by how the two characters grow together, and simultaneously heartbroken and cheered by the bittersweet ending.

There's a strong throughline, and at the same time each individual issue works on its own as a complete and satisfying story. The Power Cosmic is put to the most interesting uses that it's ever been. Galactus is here, and he's a nuanced and interesting character befitting a story where god-like entities are fully three-dimensional and fleshed out, as are other cosmic entities like the Never Queen. The art is fantastic. The Moebius strip issue lives up to the hype. It's a great comic.

Also there's bearbarians.

I am in awe with how perfect this series was. From the full circle storytelling to the tonally perfect art from the Allreds to the sheer positivity and love this book encapsulates. Dan Slott along with Mike & Laura Allred created a rare gem in modern superhero storytelling. They told a complete story with a conclusion that works both as the ending and starting off point for the character. Top-tier comic series.

This was such a beautiful story. It had so many science fiction elements of story telling which I love and yet at its core it’s extremely human. The ending is such a good way of portraying endings and has a very bitter sweet feeling to it.

Before reading this I didn’t know all that much about The Silver Surfer but now I am much more acquainted with Norrin Radd who is an extremely deep and likeable character.

I teared up at the ending of this story. Wait, about a silver guy on a surfboard? Yep, didn't expect it either. I used to think the Silver Surfer was a weird and slightly lame character by design, but his backstory is actually pretty tragic. Guy is about to lose his planet, gives himself up to slavery to save said planet, then helps ol' world-eater Galactus end countless lives... before seeing the error of his ways when he becomes strangely infatuated with Earth. It's the blind girl Alicia Masters who ends up showing him all the magical things about our planet and thus, Earth is saved from being eaten. As punishment Norrin Radd (Surfer) was stuck on Earth for years and got to know our ways, even though he was still a stranger in a strange land.

In their story, Dan Slott and Michael Allred explore the complex relationship Norrin has with Eearth and focus on character growth and nót empty cosmic spectacle. Norrin becomes linked with Dawn Greenwood, his new Alicia Masters so to say. She is his tether to Earth and after the opening arc they decidede to surf the spaceways together. So even though they discover countless of weird planets, Dawn is a continuous link to Earth and that grounds the adventures somewhat.

This book hits home how empty most of the Marvel cosmic stories are, focusing mostly on action and not developing characters. Slott & Allred take the opposite approach and prioritize character development. When those big cosmic moments dó happen, they carry so much more weight. Aside from this being a thoroughly touching and grand (love) story, the duo also explores the boundaries of comics as an art form, with the iconic #11 as an example. I won't spoil anything about that Eisner award winning issue, just make sure you read it in print and not digital.

I have rarely been this impressed reading a Marvel run. This goes right with Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four, Brian Bendis Daredevil and Tom King's Vision as the best of the best. An astounding achievement.

i decided to give this Silver Surfer omnibus a try, i went in pretty blind and just started reading without checking reviews or anything. But what i just read and devoured, i cant even comprehent. I am in complete awe, this is by far one of the most beautifull stories i have ever read in my life. Its light, its fun its fast, and give you all kinds of wanderlust, and its essentially the best love story i have ever read. Its also highly accessible and very self contained in its story telling. You dont have to have 70 years of knowledge of the marvel universe to enjoy this one. Yes there are nods to Kirby and so on, but it can be read by just anybody. This entire run is done by one artist, a rarity in this medium still, and an amazing feet with the nothing but bonkers artwork all over. When i finished yesterday i had all types of emotions going one. It made me sad i finished it, it made me happy because i loved it, and it surprised me how much i felt connected to the story. I just read one of the best marvel runs i have ever read and i DID NOT KNEW IT WAS THIS FUCKING GOOD. now excuse me i am going to cry myself to sleep again...

Quite honestly my favourite comic book run ever!

This is the type of comic book that brings people into the fold as comicbook readers. The Allreds art is amazing, which is something I wasn't sure I would enjoy prior to reading and eventually turned me into a huge fan. The bright colours and fun feel to art suites the story so well.

The consistency of Dan Slotts's writing coupled with a single artist throughout the series is wonderful.

It's the perfect blend of comedy, romance, action and adventure. Dawn Greenwood brings out emotion and humanity in the Surfer like you've never seen before and it pulls on your heartstrings.

I won't get into anything more, do yourself a favour and read this!

An essential lovely big Marvel book! This is the only run of Silver Surfer I really raved about and the chance to have it all in one big omnibus was too good to refuse. It's all by Slott & Allred, no fill-in issues, and has lots of little plot moments throughout the run that turn out to be important at the end. To sum it up: It's a love letter to all of the best cosmic Marvel stories and is full of charm, big ideas, with a sprinkling of Doctor Who fan moments throughout.

The artwork is great and the story is fun, light-hearted and easy to follow. Sometimes the story is a little bit slow and some pieces drag on a bit, but it is the final couple of episodes that make it all worth the trip. Such a fulfilling conclusion is rare in comics, and makes this one of the best Marvel stories i've ever read. Truly a must read for everyone who remotely loves tales about cosmic adventures and love.

I go back and forth on Dan Slott. I think this has to do with a lot of his interviews where he comes off as a total dipshit and, like Kurt Busiek, is a fawning neolib without apology. If I remove all the misogynist, beta male crap he's said about Mary Jane Parker, then I can push through his work and even enjoy it. This run, though... nothing but love. I've never been more glad that Mike Allred was attached to this project. Just perfect all the way around.

What a beautifully drawn, colored, and written story. I was in tears at the end but closed the book with a big smile on my face.

The story spans eons and follows the Surfer throughout the cosmos with his Earth-companion, Dawn, who is a much needed positive force in today’s world.
