Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.

James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear.

James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full- time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast. It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since.

James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time. James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for.

Pete the Cat is missing his Easter Basket. He enlists his friends to help find it.

Moral: Easter - like most holidays - is best shared with others. .

Length: Just long enough to make sure all Pete’s zany friends make an appearance.

Favorite Line: “Sharing is the sweetest gift of all.”

Overall Impression: The Lord gave his life for us on Easter and so it should come as no surprise that Pete also gives - his candy, not his life, sicko - to none other than the Easter Bunny. Was I overjoyed to see the Easter Bunny in this tale? No, and the fact - spoiler alert - he’s the Basket Bandit pleased me even less. I was hoping to avoid non-sensical pagan traditions entirely. However, this nutso plot does make complete sense if you’ve read some of the other Pete the Cat adventures, so it was pretty much expected.

Pete the Cat and his friends try to find Pete’s Easter basket and it ends up with a surprising animal and leads to a good message about sharing. This book was ok. A simple Easter read with Pete the Cat, but it just wasn’t the greatest. I love the original Pete the Cat books but I don’t enjoy the newer ones as much. I felt this one was a little boring as the characters went from place to place asking if the new character had seen Pete’s basket and then following a trail of new Easter candy until they found who had his basket. Definitely not the greatest Easter book or the greatest Pete the Cat book.

We're so proud of you for reading about Pete the Cat! You learned something really important – when things go missing, it's better to stay calm and look for answers instead of getting upset or blaming others. Pete showed us that being kind and patient helps solve problems better than being angry. You can use this when something doesn't go your way at school or home – take a deep breath, stay cool, and work things out nicely. You're becoming such a wonderful reader, sweetheart! Keep up the amazing work!

Brief summary: Poor Pete wakes up on Easter morning and finds that his Easter basket is missing. He follows a trail of jellybeans to a friend's house who has not seen it. Pete the Cat follows more candy trails, all leading to various friends. Who has his basket?

Includes a poster in the front, stickers, and Easter cards. Cute book for a child's Easter basket.

2 stars (it was okay)

Meh.

This just didn't feel like a Pete the Cat book. I get that some of the characters from the other book showed up and it's nice that there is a message of sharing but the search for the basket goes on for too long and gets repetitive.

Simple Easter story has Pete following a trail of clues to find out who borrowed his basket. This is a very light and cute, though not especially memorable, springtime read for preschool/early listeners.

Super cute Easter story about Pete the Cat, his friends and the Easter Bunny. In addition to being a seasonal read-aloud, this is a good one about sharing.

On Easter morning Pete discovered that his Easter basket was gone. He checked with all his friends but none of them had seen it. When they met the one who’d taken Pete’s basket they all were very surprised. Pete thought of a way to make the situation better.
