I like the layout, but the type size goes too small in some areas and the color contrast is rough in some spots. The first portion of “the basics” is good and clear. “The projects” part gets repetitive. Some good idea starters but nothing that really excited me. Could have used more on preserving and using for a real beginner guide. For me, probably more of a 2 star, but this was written for a beginner so I’ll give it 3.

Although written for Northern Hemisphere audiences there was still some really good and interesting information here - especially for me, a new herb gardener. I now have a list of interesting and different herbs to try to find for sale in Australia. Worth a look if you want to get into growing herbs.

Loved this book I'm very new to gardening and have never grown herbs before I think the suggestion in here at very useful and I look forward to growing many on the plants suggested in here. The writing is easy to understand and the books great to pick up and read as needed. The graph of what direction is best to put your plants for the amount sunlight it need was amazing.

A great general introduction to herbs and a lovely little selection of projects that would appeal to someone starting out, but calling it a handbook is a bit of a stretch. No real advice on growing or specific uses for different or unusual herb varieties, which is what I was looking for.

Beautifully presented but perhaps a little more basic than I had expected (I know it's a beginners guide). Not quite a handbook - would need to be more detailed - but some nice simple projects, and lovely images.

Great book if you have never done any sort of gardening

There are a couple of the projects I really liked. And a few herbs I have never heard of which I want. (Hopefully I'll be able to get them in Australia)

Worth a read if you want to start a herb garden

Lovely looking book but I think it is too basic, even as a beginner’s book. The font sizes drove me a bit nuts, especially the Planting Alternatives sections. The font is very small and printed on a green background. Very hard to read.

This book is okay but not really meaty for a handbook.
