Okarun, a high school boy obsessed with supernatural phenomena, is cursed by Turbo Granny! To break the curse, Okarun and his classmate Momo Ayase challenge Turbo Granny to a high-stakes race. But Turbo Granny’s assassin, a bound spirit in the form of a giant crab, has other plans!
I wasn't thinking much of this volume until suddenly everything clicked with me. Okarun's power, the new girl, the neko doll, I can see where Dandadan is headed and I think it's going to be a really great and unique take on the shonen formula. I'm really happy with this, and stoked for a new series which features cryptids and aliens alongside yokai. The art is brilliant and a high point for sure, but I see the foundations of a great series and will be on board for the rest.
this is one of those series that you have to read with someone else because if i read this by myself i would have trouble convincing myself that any of what i read was actually real
Okay, this series seems to have found a status quo quickly that is filled with humor and excitement as the teens battle various monsters with the sexy grandmother. I doubt it will ever be a favorite series, but it's worth a chuckle or two so I'll be picking up volumes regularly for the foreseeable future.

I read DanDaDan Volume One not all that long ago (the review should still be live here and on Goodreads), I picked it up after hearing about it from a video and seeing it around my local bookstore. After reading volume one, I knew I was going to want to keep going with this series, so the next time I went to my local bookstore I looked for volume two. I was able to find the last copy they had in stock and I immediately picked it up, and made the purchase!
SPOILERS AHEAD
Okarun is so close to being done with this entire crazy mess but what happens when it is all done? Does he go back to living his mostly solitary high school life or will he still have his kind of friend? Once Turbo Granny is slain things can calm down again and Okarun can maybe figure out that whole friendship situation. But what if Turbo Granny is not fully dead? What if she takes something else and it falls into someone else’s hands?
I am really glad I picked up this second volume and I intend to grab volumes 3 and 4 the next time I am in the bookstore. I particularly enjoyed getting to see some of Okarun’s new normal and see how things would move throughout the story post-Tubro Granny (who is my favorite new old character for this issue). I also really love the art in this manga, the monsters are all super unique and stand out in my mind for a long time after reading. I hope to make a bookstore trip in the near future so I can continue my read of DanDaDan.
“You deserve washbasins falling for you, not boys.”
Four stars for pure chaos, heart, and hilarity. This second volume ramps up everything that made the first one great—comedy, action, horror, and romance—without ever feeling like it’s juggling too much. The pacing is tight, the energy is wild, and the character dynamics keep getting better. Momo and Okarun are the kind of pair you just want to see more of, constantly switching between sweet awkwardness and life-or-death battles. The supernatural threats are strange in the best way, with designs and concepts that are both creepy and weirdly funny.
What really makes this volume stand out is how much deeper it leans into the emotional side of the story without getting sentimental. There’s this constant push and pull between wanting to protect each other and not knowing how to communicate feelings, which plays out in both the quiet school moments and the full-blown monster fights. The art is sharp, expressive, and totally unhinged when it needs to be. Every panel feels alive, and the transitions between comedy and horror hit hard.
If you're into offbeat supernatural manga that doesn't slow down for anything, this volume delivers. It’s smart, fast, and unfiltered. The characters are lovable, the humor is sharp, and the weirdness just keeps getting weirder in the best way possible. Date Read: 2025.10.17
Review for Vol 2 and 3: -Let's start of with EWW Aira. I hope that she becomes less obnoxious/annoying/frustrating/bitch, because she is definitely ruining things for me with how she is. This is also the reason why I haven't watched more Dandadan or read any more of it. I thought I would give the manga at least a try again, but MEH. I will see if I read on.
-Other than that, new monsters/youkai, like the Acrobat Silky, whose story I found way more emotional in the anime than in the manga. In the manga it felt supershort. But still a great couple of chapters with lots of tension. -I had such a laugh when Okarun found out he was missing something, HOW boy, HOW? XD -The newest monster + aliens were such a ride -Fab covers, fun art -Okarun x Momo forever, these two should just be honest about their feelings, especially Momo, haha. -Momo's grandma is a hoot. Good lord that woman. XD Plus, can she tell me her secret to staying so young? I am not that old, but for later, would be nice. -Turbo Granny in her new shape, oh boy. -Momo's friends are fantastic. -Love the transformation (though Aira definitely doesn't deserve hers).
All in all, I had a lot of fun with these two volumes, but with Aira being there.. I am just not sure how much I can handle that. If she was just a background character, sure, but her OMG I am so cute, fabulous, holier than everything, and her attempts to ruin Momo are just *pukes*.
We finally get closure on the Granny spirit and then it settles down into the school setting a lot more. But soon we find out instead of our main hero missing his dick, his BALLS are now gone. Does that make you go "What the fuck is happening?" Good, that's the point of this book.
It's funny, over the top, kind of badass at times, and this volume made me want to read more.
Screw it, this book rules. It has its faults but it’s a real trying to frown on a roller coaster kind of thing. Also the letterer on this does a great job, especially on all the panels where people are shouting and the text is in a special shout-y font.
This manga just gets crazier🤣 I lived the slower paced chapters though where they really focused on the budding relationship between okarun and ayase. It was so sweet and the unexpected KISS SCENE. It was accidental but whatever it was totally adorable. The toilet scene had me cracking up when he noticed his balls were gone and then turbo granny in the cat figurine was just the cherry on top. It was so funny. Aira reminds me of teruhashi in the way they are both so conceited and think they are the chosen one💀. The fact that she had one of okaruns balls🤣🤣🤣🤣 Too funny. I can’t wait to read the next one
“ i’ve never seen an old bag bully kids this much so respect to you”- momo ayase She really ate that up CLOCK IT
“No matter how cruel people are i can always forgive bc i have the worlds most most wonderful friend” - Okarun This precious bean of a boy
“I need to make it up to her or she’ll hate me!” “I wanna talk to him like really bad!” - Momo and Okarun I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND THIS IS ONLY VOLUME TWO I HOPE THEY GET TOGETHER PLSSSSSSSSSS
The second page 2 page spread really showcases the wackyness this series has. Some fun fights here and turbo hranny is an interesting addition by the end, as well as the new Yokai.
